Thanks, Ken - yes, this is the biggest project by far I'm undertaking on N70TB. I can't wait to have her back and start playing with all the new toys! 😁 - Martin
I agree, and I would add the video really doesn't do it justice. Karl and his entire team are phenomenal - I spent a couple of days there filming and job-shadowing everyone, and the passion that all of the people at Gardner-Lowe have for their work is evident everywhere. This isn't just a job for them; this is what they are meant to do. I felt very strongly that my Bonanza was in great hands there. - Martin
See you in Oshkosh, Kim - I'm excited, too, though my Bonanza won't be ready in time. It'll be my first time driving to AirVenture in over 20 years! - Martin

Hi Jim - I hope so, too; meeting you in person is long overdue. I'm presenting on Saturday morning (LOP), and you should be able to find me at SOS most evenings. Can't wait! - Martin
Shoot!!! I'll be in Oshkosh Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday... Guess I won't get to meet you after all.... Unless, you're going to be around through the week... Can't wait to get there!

Well...not much left to the imagination on the avionics upgrade since we saw the panel cutout. Was wondering on the gray vs. white panel - is there research on that or is it just aesthetics? Also noticed you never stopped smiling in the video... congratulations and safe flights!
Really??? I had not even noticed that! Good thing it's hidden down low on the panel once it's installed. 😁 (By the way, I made the same mistake on my customized checklist for the Bonanza, so I shouldn't be too hard on the shop.) - Martin
You know what, I don't really need a turbo. Sure, everyone likes to go fast, but it comes at an expense - not just the acquisition cost and higher fuel burn, but also increased maintenance effort and - maybe most importantly - new failure modes that can cause problems and dispatch issues. If I lived in the western part of the US, it would be a no-brainer, but the way it is, I very rarely feel like a turbo would make much of a difference for me. - Martin
@@martinpauly I still fly a 172 with 2 VORs and an NDB. I still get there. I'm not sure I would want all those upgrades, especially at such a high cost.
@@mattbasford6299 I used to fly IFR with just VOR and DME, though I can't say I ever liked the NDB/ADF much. These days, I wouldn't want to fly IFR without a good GPS. From there, the sky is the limit - and yes, my new panel won't make the plane fly any faster...
@@martinpauly I understand the allure, but I kind of like flying instruments old school. An ADF/NDB is a simple instrument to fly once you understand how to handle the wind.

It's nice to see that Bidens Inflation/recession hasn't affected your Avionics business yet.Todays avionics really change the game in situational awareness. Just hope these modern Pilots stay current with Needle, Ball and Airspeed when all the bells and whistles cease operation because of something as simple a broken alternator belt.
It's easy to see how pilots can become too dependent on the fancy avionics, but I really enjoy hand-flying, too. When I practice approaches, I make it a point to alternate between coupled and hand-flown.

That's right, Eric. Every modern jet has the autopilot mode control panel there, so I figure that must be a good spot for it.

These newer avionics also consume less power, letting your battery last longer. Also, many have backup batteries.
