    Grill Grates on my Pellet Grill
    Check out Grill Grates at www.grillgrate.com/
    Grill Grates are a game changer with it comes to grilling. The way they are made keeps more of the heat down at the grate level where you need it. They completely change how a pellet grill grills and turns any grill into a steak cooking machine.
    We have had several questions asking why our grate temps were higher than our grill temps sometimes. I wanted to take a few minutes and try to explain my opinion and thoughts on how they work.
    Check the video out and let us know if you have any questions. Thank yall for watching!

    Came to your channel after seeing you on with the Reed’s. I was lucky enough to find a set of still in the box grill grates on Craigslist for $25 just last week (for my weber kettle). I’ve only used the flat side for smashed burgers so far but I’m looking forward to throwing a rib eye on them soon

    Thanks, Mark. I have a Silverbac and three sections of GrillGrates. I’ve been wondering if purchasing more panels to fill up the cooking area would be a bad idea. I had concerns about overall airflow and the Silverbac’s temperature probe reading erroneous temps with the grates that close. This appears to have cleared up those concerns. Thanks!

    • @SwineLifeBBQ
      @SwineLifeBBQ  3 года назад +2

      Onions work great to help clean them. I like using a grape seed oil when they are new. You can season them up just like a cast iron skillet. The more you cook on them the better they are!

    I know this question is very late in the game, but I didn't see anyone else ask it. I am surprised that you are using a full set of Grill Grates (GG) when GG does not recommend it. I am not saying that what you are doing is wrong, I am just saying it's not the recommended config. The reason they don't recommend it is because GG claims pellet grills often experience flameouts if they are not getting enough airflow. So, my question is this ... Have you had any flameouts with your configuration (which appears to be a set of 4 plates -- correct me if I am wrong)? Also, another person asked, what is the size of panel recommended by GG? GrillaGrill sells a set of 3 panels x 18.75 in long (according to an email from Grilla Grill support). Thanks and keep the excellent videos coming!

    • @SwineLifeBBQ
      @SwineLifeBBQ  2 года назад +1

      Great point and question! Yes, I have a full set of grates all the way across the cooking grate. I am never had a flame out. The grates have enough holes for sure flow plus the grease drip opening is large enough to allow even more air flow. I have never heard of it not being recommended. That being said I would definitely recommend listening to the manufacturer but it sure cooks a good steak!!

  • @snlahaus666

    I have a camp chef pellet grill AND the sear box. 2 questions... 1. Would you recommend I get grill grates for both? 2. Would I even need the seat box anymore if I got the grill grates for just my grill?

    • @SwineLifeBBQ
      @SwineLifeBBQ  3 года назад

      Thats a tough one.... I think I would start with sear box since the Grill Grates would help keep the sear box portion a lot cleaner. Just my opinion.

    • @SwineLifeBBQ

    Instructions on these things say use an onion to season them. I seasoned them with an onion for a couple hours. Wiping them with an onion over and over. Are you running the drip tray underneath the grill grates or are they sitting above the fire pot?
    I was always thinking about not using the drip pan and it would probably get hotter

    • @SwineLifeBBQ
      @SwineLifeBBQ  3 года назад +4

      Yes, I run all of internals in the pellet grill. I have tried it both ways and found you get more heat across the entire grate by using the drip pan and heat deflector. This causes the pellet grill to work harder to maintain temp and there for burn a larger fire in the fire pot. Which also increases the grate temp.
