I bought this one back in December. Forget the haters, it was very much worth it. Looks and feels like a quality, but unique piece. Industrial but with a soft silicone strap and fancy finishes. Would absolutely buy it again if I went back in time.
@@bigbrotherwatchesdannyboy306 I got this watch a few months ago. It's good and feels solid. The case finishing is awesome, so is the lume. However, the bracelet has to be replaced in my opinion. It's not that comfortable especially under a cuff. The bezel is great and aligns, but is has some back play and feels a bit sharp when you touch the gap between the bezel and the insert. Overall a great watch if you manage to get a deal on it. Got mine for around 600€ and it seems pretty fair to me.
I just acquired this piece brand new. An absolute stunner!!!! Perfect all around, and the blue lume is unbeatable, the new models don't compare in strength. Put it on the Uncle Seiko Black waffle and the Tropic....insanely comfortable on both!
@@jeffwenger5610 thanks Jeff! I am so tempted now.. I always wear my watch on a Sean Connery style nato strap because of the comfort and I like to be more under the radar. The newest Prospex models are around 1300-1400 USD I believe.. So with this SPB087 I can get a high quality Seiko for more than half the price.. 🤯 Seems to be a killer deal!
These older models are definitely a notch or two above the new MM200 reduced. This old lume formula is far superior. I also just picked up the SPB097 Twilight last week brand new for $685 shipped. Retail is $1150. Deal of the century, perfect alignment. Enjoy!!!
This watch is a freaky optical illusion. I have a small wrist...probably 6.25 inches. This watch seriously wears like a 40mm. I just don't get it. The fit is truly excellent.
@@fuatyilmaz-hq9bs I wear the Turtle, the Monster, Omega SMP, among the larger ones. Also a lot of smaller hand-winds. The one problem with this model that prevented me from getting it originally was the 50mm lug to lug. I thought all I could handle was 48. But it turns out I shouldn't have worried because it fits wonderfully. When people say it looks smaller than the specs, they aren't lying. It does NOT look like a 44 on the wrist. 41 max.
Totally agree with this. Was really bummed out when i saw the dimensions when the mm200 was released but i was able to try one yesterday and it wears smaller than the turtle I own. Will probably pull the trigger on the blue hole variant
Same wrist size and same impression here! I think it wears smaller due to the beveled edges of the lugs, with different types of polishing. The thinness of the bezel and font used helps too! Clever design.
I do like the SBDC097 Twilight Blue as my favorite of the new mm200s. This would be my 2nd favorite. I do like this one a lot. it say PADI, but, it doesn't have all the PADI design attributes such as more red accents.. which is actually better for me as I prefer this more conservative approach with just having the blue & red bezel insert. FYI, I'd get it from Gnomon because they have exclusive option with bracelet.
@@BruceWilliams I have yet to see one in person as well, from all I've seen from pics and video, it does look gorgeous. Love the blue dial and how it has black and orange accents. Nice set with bracelet and strap. Particularly hard to find item if you can find one. Only a handful overseas like in Europe is what I was able to quickly google find. Unfortunately, for me, these MM200's wear just a tiny bit too large for me sometimes depending on where it rests on my wrist and the angle I'm looking at it... I notice it enough to the point where it's best to just sell for something that gives me less fitment doubts... I did have an SBDC063 on bracelet before.
I Have this bad boy, and I agree with you on the black painted hand ends kinda suck especially when the minute hand is straight up the hour hand, that said I love the watch and I did put it on a bracelet and added a MM ratcheting clasp I had, and presto MM200 😂
I agree with you completely on the bracelet. This watch on the supplied strap is too mundane. But I think the dial is fine. Many brands have a lot more writing and symbols on their dials (Rolex?) than Seiko.
Bruce, are you able to test this with a Ginault bracelet to see if it would fit nicely? I could send one over to test, or if you're able to get the lug measurement from round of the case, to the pin hole on the lug?
I have the SRPA21 Padi, it isn't as expensive as the model you've shown, and like $412 came with a bracelet and changed to an aftermarket Archer black silicon, which is less expensive than Seiko's and and find it comfortable and durable. Maybe should have bought Seiko's band a thrice or more the price, but like the feel, fit and finish. Nice combo to be honest. Have a JDM Arnie on order will be able to check the finer differences between the two.I don't wear it often, but not never. It need these kind of straps or bracelet for work as a the need to constantly wash my hands, Usually wear my . Monster when I'm at work. Can't wait for my Arine to show up, hopefully I get it in the next few weeks. Do prefer but don't mind it's a solar quartz the features make it work it to me and price was fair. Usually like $25 more plus sales tax savings helps, and don't want Padi version which can be be found at my usual ADM "Long Island Watch" have Have Seiko and SPDC069 JDM on order . And should get in a week. or so on bracelet, I love the color and bracelet . .
Hi there Bruce, pretty new to the "watch" world. Have had an Omega Seamaster for the last 20 years and wanted something newer (and cheaper). Picked up a Seiko SRPA21 and like it, but am wondering what the differences are between this one (reviewed) and the one I picked up? Maybe sapphire crystal in this versus not in mine?
Ordered the Seiko Bracelet for Prospex SBDC061/63 - Ref. M01X431 × 1 bracelet from gnomon. Fits perfectly and transformed the look and feel of the watch.
Kind of disappointing that the minute hand isn't outlined in red (as we've come to expect from Seiko PADI variants), and that Seiko went with a plain black dial.
Much too expensive for what one gets. Lots of good watches in that category. There are also many good microbrands for considerably less. The irony is that many use Seiko movements and put out a better product.
Seiko seems to be pretty bad on the detail of these €/£/$ 1000 price point divers. This watch shares many parts with the Tuna quartz 300 Marinemaster I wear as a daily (hands and face). Bezel is pretty awful with rough action with sand getting caught in it. Interestingly it did come with a titanium bracelet which I changed for one of their very comfy silicon/ rubber strap. Nice touches of colour on this. Somehow the "rough" edges make it more professional and less Swiss bling so all forgiven (damn, becoming a Seiko Tuna fanboy). Same could be said about pro versions of the Speedy though. Far more rough and ready than people realise...
Why is that called a Marinemaster? doesn't have much in common with what people think of with the word Marinemaster. Did you say $1000 !! Love Seiko but i'm not feeling this watch at all, SKX 009 looks better.
Because it is modeled after the 6159 which the Marinemaster also got its general design from. Its also similar in look, just a little smaller and of course less expensive. Hence the 'MM200' or 'baby marinemaster' nicknames

It’s on my list. I like the watch as it is. I am not the bracelet guy, mostly silicone, or nato strap.
The case shape and dimensions seem like a step up from other Seiko divers. Also enjoy the dual-lume application :)

Well done Bob! That MM clasp is great

I can't agree on your comment about spacing on the dial. It looks fine to me.
I own one new Seiko Dark Green Sunset and it is incredible

Nice review from a year ago, Bruce, thank you. Watch is nice, hands don't bother me. Lack of steel bracelet does
Will a strap co jubilee fit this? It should right?
I don't think they make them with fitted endlinks. You could put a 20mm strait endlink version on though
I have this watch. Due to the diasheild coating the strap code stainless steel looks whiter than the almost titanium color on this watch.
Dave Sands interesting would a cheap seiko jubilee fit it? With hollow end links?
PADI is placed there for a reason. When it is 6 o'clock the hour hand completely obscures the logo for a clean look
I agree with you completely on the bracelet. This watch on the supplied strap is too mundane. But I think the dial is fine. Many brands have a lot more writing and symbols on their dials (Rolex?) than Seiko.
Some do not mind the dial for sure... but the spacing seems off to me
I never realized the Prospex logo was an P and S combined... That's pretty cool actually
'Professional Specifications' -> prospex
I don’t mind the logo issues with the dial, but those hands really don’t belong on a $900 watch! Other than that, it’s a cool watch
Agreed Jeffery

no lol once you get one seiko you'll want more and it never ends.

It's excellent in almost every way. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.
"Seiko Guy, " $900 is a lot to pay for all of the problems on the dial. At that price range, the competition gets very tough.

Yes, Gnomon watches sells it. Also check Sakura watches and seiya japan
Nice watch. However, too expensive considering that is a very competitive segment of the market.

Why are Seiko hand sets too short on all but the highest end pieces ? This is more of an irritation than their quality control issues.
Seiko always gets the handsets wrong.
Chapter ring alignment looks out to the left at 6 o'clock. It beggars belief Seiko still haven't addressed this.
