Start The Wheel of Time here: amzn.to/2IQsnys
So I basically made two drafts of this video. I decided to put them together and have one longer video with more recommendations for people. I figured that way people had more wiggle room and could seem my taste a little more clearly. Hope it helps!
With the Wheel of Time, it's worth noting that the main reason the battle scenes feel so believable is because Robert Jordan served in Vietnam.
I started with Eragon. Technically I loved the Lord of the Rings movies first, then I read a couple Harry Potters, but Eragon really brought me deep into fantasy-reading.
Game of Thrones is what got me into the genre, then the Witcher.
Only stumbled upon your channel a few days ago but you’ve quickly grown to the top of my favorite youtubers!
Chronicles of Narnia was my first fantasy series as a kid and then Lord of the Rings. Wheel of Time is definitely the best!
Daniel, you're God's gift to us fantasy-lovers. Thank you so much!
Discovered Fantasy through Harry Potter like many. After it ended, I honestly didn’t know what to do. Went to Barnes and Noble, and libraries, and was told to look into Hunger Games and Game of Thrones. I gave hunger games a try, liked it, but never finished (as it just didn’t hit quite the same). Put reading off for about 7-8 years until 2 years ago, when my friend forced me to read The Way of Kings and I fell in love with reading again. I’m caught up on Stormlight and itching for more. So far I’ve read Kings of the Wyld, Skyward, A Game of Thrones (just book 1 for now), and a few Stephen King books. My TBR is stacked and I’m so excited!
I started with The Wind in the Willows 54 years ago. :)
I have recommended The Gentleman Bastard series to a few friends that have asked me for a starting point in fantasy. They enjoyed them just as much as i do.
My first jump into fantasy was The Sword of Shannara when I was in middle school. I read every one of those books and re read them and they still hold a special place for me.
I got into fantasy at 12 by reading the BERSERK manga my older brother bought... Yeah I had a pretty messed up childhood. (Runefang from black library is pretty good if you're into dark fantasy).
I recommend everyone who asks start with the mistborn trilogy. 3 books, well written, it's accessible. And Vin is a badass
I just noticed you look like a younger version of Neil Patrick Harris.
Your mention of falling in love with one fantasy series and getting obsessed with the one storyline is exactly what happened to me (with MTG) and a few of my friends before we finally ventured outside our fantasy box. So your explanation was spot on and incredibly refreshing to hear.
"And then once you've become an old hermit who can recite the Silmarillion by memory, try out Malazan Book of the Fallen"
I’m so obsessed with the timeline of ASOIAF. It’s so rich, with tens of thousands of years to explore.
This is an important reminder. My "wheel of time" for too many years was actually Kingkiller, and that's not even finished yet! It wasn't until I discovered Stormlight and, by association, your channel, that I really started to expand. Thank you so much for helping me expand!
This is one of the best recommendation videos I’ve seen! Thank you so much. This video really helped me a lot.
