The most notable time-jump to me in Book of the Fallen is Pale. The magic unleashed uncovered chaos so much it affected the way the event of the siege of pale are told. So the reason you don't see it so much in BotF is that it was very intentional in book 1.

Great video as always! We're on the same page -- so good! (I had to come in and spy on you before our collab to see what you thought!)

I liked your point on the heroism of fighting against addiction. Said angle on that story was a pleasant surprise and subsequently effective takeaway.

I had already pre-ordered... Good suggestion: reread Book One of HoC to refresh your memory. Thanks for the review!

Thank you! I picked up Gardens of the Moon a decade ago, and I have read the BotF twice now. I have found your reviews enlightening -- you gave me terms for themes and structures for which I had no name, and revealed aspects of Erikson's novels that I did not notice. You've also helped me communicate the series to those who have not yet read it. After watching this review, I've pre-ordered The God Is Not Willing.

It is so amazing!!!! I absolutely loved it. A great follow up to The Book of the Fallen. The character development is wonderful. I already feel like I know them and can’t wait for more! My only complaint is that it is somewhat shorter than his usual books or maybe it’s that it was such a page turner that I finished it way too quickly. I hope the next one doesn’t take too long to come out!

I haven’t quite read any Malazan yet, but plan to eventually because of the high praise from y’all! I’m wondering if you know if any standalone books by Erikson that are also just as great. Thanks!

Rejoice! A Knife to the Heart, his first contact novel, is a great standalone. It isn't related to his fantasy works so its inherently spoiler-free

During the first half of the book, the soldier talk really annoyed me. The disconnected way they hold conversations, I just didn't like it.
An even worse offender was heavies are dumb scene. Main 10 books also had similar scenes but here it was worse.
Though during the last half, the marines made a comeback and had proper emotional and good philosophical dialogs and scenes.

If a raging feminist decided to impersonate Erickson, this is the book she would write. The book was awful.
