I think you missed covering the installation of the OS on the SSD. If you put in a blank SSD, you would need to use an installation USB stick or Internet Recovery mode to get the OS installed. Instead, you should probably use Carbon Copy Cloner, to image the old drive to the new one (hook the new one in via an external USB case), and then when the cloning is finished, continue with the replacement. Or, if you have another Mac, you could use an external 2-bay drive caddy, and use the cloning software to clone the old HD to the new SSD.
Owc sells a sensor that attaches to the hard drive, what happens if you don’t use it like you did? How strong is that gorilla glue? Can u open it again now that it’s glued in?
OMG.... what the hell. You do NOT need to heat the screen, use the proper plastic wheeled tool and do NOT use a bloody stanley knife.... Plus without the heat sensor the fans will run at 100% all the time... This is the how NOT TO instruction....
is this guy trolling? like everything is a "no-no" sharp metal razor knife; heating with heat gun, using a crap folding torx tool, putting metal tweezers inside PC, gluing it with gorilla glue?..just WOW... I guess if you lived in a wood cabin in North central Canada only accessible by float plane; this might be useful.
Agree with using the cutting wheel but the heat sensor is a well known scam. I’ve done more than a few of these upgrades never had the fan problem people talk about. Maybe really old machines have a problem with it but any iMac from early 2015 onwards does not need a sensor. The heat gun thing looks crazy and I recommend using new tape, also I put a small blob of clear sealant in the top two corners, I’ve had tape fail before.

this was what I was wondering, how to clone my imac before installing.
I like the SSD cheat w tape…nice
What technique did you use to get the old drive data on the new SDD drive?
There's a Mac app called Super Duper that I've used in the past with good results.
Carbon Copy Cloner also works.
My 27" iMac Won't Boot, just 3 Beeps. How can I resolve this problem? Please.
Try resetting PRAM.

Did the fan come on at max speed all the time because the temperature sensor mis read?
A really thorough tutorial. have to,go,back to see the brand of SSD drive. Sure much cheaper than a new computer.
Can I open the screen even if I use the glue method?

Agreed, never use Gorilla glue, don't be cheap spend 10-20 bucks and get the replacement tape.
What SSD you used and how many TB’s
Can we do this upgrade on a 2019 i5?
Did we miss the step to back up the iMac?
Do you know if the sandisk ssd ultra drives are any good for this upgrade?
Should be!
Go Samsung…SanDisk has a HORRIBLE warranty replacement t and you have to send videos and a bunch if shit. Ridiculous .
Would a 4tb drive read?
It should. I have a 2tb external and it reads fine. Internal should be the same
@@techitout4710 Hey man. Have you had any issues not using the thermal sensor that OWC says we should use?
A great video but sadly no lesson on installing the system
Please come and do mine. Is soooooo slow. I think I can do it but I’m afraid I’ll mess something up 😂
Doesn’t it needed the OWC thermal sensor?
Nope
Love it!!
just use external ssd instead of risking damage on screen etc etc
You seriously left out the most important part
hundredth like from me
Dude, don't be cheap you can buy the replacement tape, don't use Gorilla glue! WTH?
non traditional🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
