    I’m happy to assist and support you in this program as best I can.
    Unfortunately, we are not able to purchase desks, chairs, etc for people going to school. We can only consider it when some becomes employed and needs an accommodation that the employer doesn’t provide. I usually tell people that this is what the monthly subsistence allowance stipend that you will be getting while in school is for - anything that is needed for your school that is not provided by us.
    This is an email from my counselor... seems way off from what fellow vets are being told

      that is way off, sorry to hear that, the level of inconsistency is frustrating

    • @Usmctbone
      @Usmctbone 5 месяцев назад +1

      It is true but what your VRC told you is a half truth. What you are seeking is an "ergonomic accommodation" to prevent the further exacerbation of a service-connected disability. Take a look at M28C,V.A.3,3.01, a When they say they need to get approval from a supervisor, cite M28C,V.A.3,3.01, b and remind them that it is in accordance with 38 CFR 21.210 that they have the sole authority to approve it. (Now don't go asking for something crazy like 5k+ desk/chair) Use this knowledge with common sense.

    Hey Chris,
    Do you have a video explaining how you got approved for VRNE?
    I’ve already been accepted to the graduate program I want to go into but, VRNE Denied me. I’d appreciate any help.

    Extremely useful information. Do you know how long the VA takes to give you an answer after you apply? Thanks.

    • @Moneyandcareers
      @Moneyandcareers  5 месяцев назад +4

      You should get your initial appointment (interview) in about a month, and then they SHOULD let you know immediately if you are approved or not, however, they don't always do that. My first time applying the counselor wouldn't give me any indication, and I got a denial letter in the mail a month later...

    Great info. I'm looking for ways to pay for technical training since I transferred my Post 9/11 GI bill to my son. I just applied to the VR&E program and I'm waiting for acceptance. I reached the same conclusion about the VR&E "Employment Through Long-Term Services" track. I recently retired from the Navy as an O4. Prior to the Navy, I was a software engineer during the latter half of the 90's until 2001. I want to re-enter this field of work and update my skills learning about AI, machine learning, Swift, Python, etc. by enrolling in a coding bootcamp instead of completing another degree; I already have a BS/MS in electrical engineering. The VA's pilot Veterans Technology Education Courses (VET TEC) seemed to have been better suited for these aspirations, but, the VA stopped accepting applications April 1, 2024. Hence, my interest in this track ... do you think it would be feasible? Thanks for taking time away from your busy med school schedule.

    • @Moneyandcareers
      @Moneyandcareers  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yes it’s feasible, but may be a hard sell. Unfortunately some counselors hold it against you if you have a decent amount of education and training already, but I think your situation is perfectly reasonable. You need to explain to them that this career path will be suitable to your abilities and interests and that it is a field that doesn’t exacerbate your disabilities, and that you NEED this technical training in order to break into this career field. Which is true, you know better than me that a 10+ year break away from the tech field makes you a dinosaur. You need their help and training in order to pivot into this career field

    Folks. Double-check every word uttered by the VR&E staff. Review 38 USC, 38 CFR, and M28C.
    My first two counselors stated I was too old to receive education or VR&E benefits.
    The staff is not your friends. Do not back down.

      IDK if im too late to help you with your situation, but I was accepted for VRE at 69 yrs young and very disabled (20% at the time). I had used most of my GI bill back in the 80's, but now have 22 mos. available to me in this program.

    How much does VR&E pay for the non-paid work experience option? Same BAH as GI Bill? Thanks.

    What if you've already used all of your GI bill/ Post 911 benefits. Does it matter or will they still cover your tuition

    • @Moneyandcareers
      @Moneyandcareers  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes you can still use VRE, but you have to have 1 day left of GI bill eligibility in order to get the GI bill level of bah. If you don’t, then you’ll get a VRE sustenance allowance which is a little less than the bah rate

    Im so agitated with their system. They make it so hard to get in touch with anyone. I applied in June July and August of this year they're telling me I have to wait until December for my appointment. Thats way too long the I missed two start dates because of the wickedness and laziness of the VRE employees. I was told I had a counselor and I haven't heard from them yet.
