Thanks for the video, Bob. Question, that metal looks a little flimsy. Think it will rust after a while? Not saying it's poor quality, but, I have a pergola outside with a very similar metal and coating and it rusted in the first year.

i just took it to the beach. Loaded an ice chest, 6 folding chairs, a 13x13 canopy, and 4 boogie boards. Came home to check and the clamps held the basket in place like a champ!
@@GXBOB Very Nice!!!! That's what I was afraid of. The fact that, because they were different fasteners/U-Bolts, that they may either rattle, or come loose after a few trips. Sounds like they were safe and sound.. Good Job..
@@Kiss__Kiss Found out the U-bolts do fit if i put the roof basket bars ON TOP of my cross rails. The weird thing is my Crossrail are curved and shaped like a rainbow, so it would cause my roof basket to either teeter to the left or right. So i chose to move the basket bars in front of the cross rails which makes the area to clamp a lot wider hence the aftermarket U-bolts. I think the basket would work if i bought cross rails that were straight across. Ugh...the price of trying to save a few dollars.
Hey Bob, love the mods. You are giving me lots of inspiration for my 2011 gx, started with the running board lights and interior light LED replacements. Could you make a video showing the exterior, would love to see a wider shot of the roof basket. Thanks!
If you fast forward the video to 8:53, you'll see the entire car zoomed out with the roof basket. Let me know if that helps and what other angles you would like to see.

At the time it was sufficient for the type of stuff i was transporting plus it was $100. It has since been removed and sold. I currently have nothing up there till i find a killer deal.
My crossbars hold up fine but the paint is chipping. I sold my roof basket because it was heavy and i rarely use it. I bought a tow hitch basket instead
HI Ki Yi, the roof rack was not purchased online. I bought it from a local Chinese distribution warehouse in Los Angeles for $125. I wouldn't buy it online as it is very very heavy. Shipping will be expensive.
It's not sitting on the crossbars, it's sitting either in front or in the back of the crossbars. Hence the reason why I bought that elongated U bolt as in the following link. I found it on Offerup.com, It was a warehouse in the city of El Monte, CA that imported a surplus of things from China. So it was local and not an online order that ships.

The screws already rusted. I used leftover black touch up paint from Lexus to paint the screws. As far as the basket, I'm crossing my fingers

Those are support braces. Your basket will still tie together without them. All GX in the states are bench style middle row

The sunroof slides internally within the top structure of the car. It does not protrude outside.

As tight as i set the screws and Ubolt hardware attached, my basket won't fly off during a category 5 hurricane. I made sure of it.
