Now that Glass has been released on Blu-ray, I was able to go through scene by scene and give it the same Things You Missed treatment as Unbreakable and Split. Also, with the new information in Glass some of the questions about the first two movies, I thought I'd put together this Ultimate Compilation video with all 144 Things You Missed in Unbreakable, Split and Glass; the entire Eastrail 177 Trilogy.
I'll be taking a look at the symbolic meaning of glass and reflections, the comic-book-like framing, the reason of upside-down / inverted shots, the significance of water and director M Night Shyamalan's use of thematic color.
This will also include character analysis' of David Dunn (The Overseer, Elijah Price (Mr. Glass) and Kevin Crumb (The Horde), where I'll break down their similarities and differences and why they are important, as well as taking a closer look at Joseph Dunn, Audrey Dunn, Casey Cooke, Mrs. Price and Dr. Ellie Staple.
The series is also loaded with a surprising about of easter eggs, which of course, I'll be breaking down. They include references to M Night's other films like, Signs (2002), The Sixth Sense (1999), The Happening (2008) and After Earth (2013). There are also references to classics like Psycho (1960). Unbreakable contains huge clues pointing to the emergence of The Beast / The Horde in the sequel that wouldn't come for another 16 years, Split. There's even a nod towards Glass (2019), which just goes to show that Shyamalan knew where he wanted to take this trilogy all along.
Split is actually loaded with clues about it's shocking twist ending, but you're unlikely to notice them without knowing to look for them. That's where I come in. I just need your credit card number and the digits on the back. That last part was a joke.
I'll be digging out all the easter eggs and connections to Unbreakable including structural similarities, similar shot compositions, references to superheroes and even a scene that is almost line for line a remake of an iconic scene from Unbreakable.
All three movies feature some secret messages put into the film by crew members, so of course, we'll be going over those as well.
The conclusion to the Eastrail 177 trilogy had some shocking revelations. Here are the clues & connections hidden throughout.
Glass contains a lot of hints and foreshadowing about the ending, though it's a bit more difficult to understand than Unbreakable and Split. I'll be highlighting all of those Things You (May Have) Missed and doing an in depth discussion about the black clover tattoo society / organization later on in the video.
This is THE most packed Things You Missed episodes to date!

Purple is Samuel L Jackson's colour. He actually asked George Lucas if his light-sabre in Star Wars be purple. I love also that as an underplayed superhero, Bruce Willis's character does actually wear a cape albeit a rain cape
Shyamalan did confirm in an interview that a piece of the original script of unbreakable (that had Kevin Wendell Crumb in it) stayed; he says that the kid who was abused by his mother was intended to be Kevin.
Pretty cool detail!
Also, David is very bald, while Elijah has glorious fluffy hair
Honestly this trilogy is really underrated.
2nd greatest trilogy ever behind the 1st 3 LOTR.
FACTS
It's not underrated. It was just under advertised.
But people got tired of the director after his nonsensical movies that no one cared about
@@MrArtBot HA. 😂
I like that the characters assosiated with each "hero" continue the respected yellow, green and purple colours in their outfits. kind of represents how they continued the hero's work in the end
What I thought was odd in 'Glass' was that Dr. Staple was trying to convince David he was just an ordinary man but was threatening him with his superhero weakness, water.
That and when they were in group therapy Dunn was chained down
@@jonfinney6413 Another good point.
I've got the answer:
She had to DISCOURAGE David from trying to leave, rather than STOP him.
...is what she wanted David to believe, but it's revealed as David dies that she knew he was super, so the water and chains WERE to stop him from ESCAPING, but she wanted him to think she was using them to stop him from TRYING to escape.
I hope I didn't word it too... confusingly.
Truth is... That's one of many possible explanations, but now you can watch this brilliant movie with my context.
Sorry for being a whole year late. 😁
@@noahc2078 We know once you watch the full movie the Dr. Staple is aware that all three do have superpowers. However if you are trying to convince a child that there isn't a monster in their closet you don't put a dresser in front of it.
@@jasonworlock5113 That is if there really isn't a monster in the closet, which there is in this case.
My sister wrote the superhero book! Never been more proud of her!
The banana thing is representative of Elijah because a living banana would be considered incredibly intelligent and bananas bruise easy just like how Elijah as Mr Glass is very brittle
It's a reference to the super hero team "Bananas in Pajamas"
What??
@@Theyungcity23 lol
Bruh that show used to give me nightmares as a lil kid 😂😂
In Glass, after Mr. Glass kills Daryl, when Pierce comes in for his shift, he finds Daryl's half eaten food and there is a banana there. Possible connection?
I believe Dunn turned the water on to get his hands wet to weaken himself enough that he wouldn't permanently injure the boys.
That's an interesting idea. But isn't it just when he is submerged that water is dangerous to him? I just figured he was making noise in the kitchen so the guys would come to him & he could have the advantage...or something. Also, him using water in his crime-fighting as opposed to water getting the best of him shows that he's not afraid of it at least, even though it's still his weakness.
I'll be live in the chat when this video premieres!

CZsWorld Barry/one of his multiple personalities was vibin
3:55 Thanks ill take a 3 hour ear ringing and blown out headphones
I like how at the end kacy is wearing yellow, Elijahs mom is wearing purple, and Joseph is wearing green.
Casey :') ...
I had no idea split was a sequel and I screamed I was so happy when I saw David dunn
I love the breaks inbetween each group of information" it allows me to process everything, or fan girl over something, or make my own connections. Your videos are awesome!
Literally just watched this movies yesterday so I concluded that the universe wanted me to watch your channel
Gods, I love these videos, they make me realize how much I actually missed in the movies
Guess I picked a good title then.
I think this is where we shake hands....🤝
I love seeing genuine appreciation & meaningful analysis of this trilogy. Thank you.
I still get cold chills when he says "they call me Mr. Glass." F'ing brilliant.
Well they can't call him Mister Tibbs because that's Sidney Poitier.
Great analysis. One thought, you mentioned loving the"do you see any teletubbies in here?" The Tubies are green, yellow and purple in color
Hmmmm
Good catch but u left out THE Red one so what does that mean 😆
Nelson Ortiz abusive mother was wearing red when she bumped into Bruce Willis
Staple has a pink color theme....watered down red.
I hope split got a award becuz the acting was great glad i found this vid had no idea they were connected rlly want to watch them now
Amazing analysis/&dissection👏🏿🎞
Thanks for watching!!
Great take on a great series. You actually did point out things I missed.
I’m not saying there’s any hidden meaning other than paying homage to his other movie Lady in the Water. But the puddle at the end of Glass had the same shape as the swimming pool in Lady in the Water. Of all the shapes they could give a pothole they chose that one.
Here's what I also noticed after watching this trilogy that people barely talk about
Every hero has a weakness / their kryptonite
Overseer is Water
Horde is Light
Glass is his mothers Love or Just love in General . This shows in the flashback as Elijah seems to be perfectly fine at the carnaval enjoying the ride , but as soon as his mother started to worry and looking for him , his body starts to weaken leading into innevitable injuries.
Character names in Unbreakable are biblical picks *Joseph* , *David* , *Elijah* . Only name Audrey Is off putting . However name Audrey comes from christian background with a meaning of : Noble Strengh , also ones with name Audrey ussualy have characteristics of beying Sensistive , Calm , Protective , High ability of Persuasion. Which is showned when Audrey comes and asks David in a *calm* but *persuasive* way if he been with other woman , also saying that his answer won't effect her actions. Cuz she tries to *protect* what left of her marriage. Yet she goes all *Sensitive* n burst to tears when David answers no.
THAT or IT'S just a COINCIDENCE
Lastly this is just a theory but I find it highly believable , that Dr. Staple is an antihero with power to convincing people .She convinces our "heros" , She convinces Joseph , She convinces Black Clover. She even asks David if she managed to convince him that it was all in his head as if trying to say she's also like him.
Now here's what's interesting if we go by Elijah theory that if someone exist into one side of the spectrum doesn't that mean someone opposite exists also .
Meaning someone opposite to Dr. Staple is with the power to Question . Like question the reality , question the existence of someone , question Black clovers who gave them right to decided that "gods can't walk around the normals" and so on.
NOW THAT's A 4TH Installment in this universe I'd like to see.
I think by the end of Glass, the whole world is given the power to question, once the video is released, instead of just swallowing the narrative that the Clover group wanted the public to have. I do like the idea that Staple is a super though. Just like David naturally gravitated toward a career in protecting people, she went into psychiatry which allowed her to use her talent of convincing to help people see things the way she does.
I have to say CZ, that your reviews are the best. I watch many on the movies I love and your in depth analysis is second to none. I really appreciate the content
It took Bender as a John Hughes ref. Bender was the “Criminal”
"green is a secondary colour with yellow in it so it can never make purple."
Your video analysis is so in-depth and really makes my family and I realize how brilliant some of these films are.
You're my son's favorite RUclipsr.
Yes i love watching you your voice is for some reason really calming
Thanks Katie!
@@CZsWorld np i meant it
Katie Best you gay bro?
Mase 08 no I’m not gay
Out of context, this would be creepy.
Cz world in a recent interview the woman in red was officially later confirmed to be the horde
That doesn't make sense. She could be the mom, that would make more sense. If this was before, Kevin would have been a kid. And the horde was in the body of a man, and he ended up dying.
@@artinstructor4020 She was the mom of Kevin, Shaymalan, (i don't know if i spelled it correct) confirmed it in an interview, i think that's what the guy meant.
Yea! Great analysis and awesome captions!!!
Something i noticed that has no impact on the movie:
When Casey attempts to shoot her uncle she wears a long sleeve white shirt. When she tries to shoot the beast she is also wearing a long sleeve white shirt.
Don't sell yourself short. :) That detail could easily be an additional visual link between the two scenes. Good catch
Good catch, colors r generally very important in Shyamalan's works.
the significance of Elijahs mother's living room at the end of glass where she receives the mail, is to show each super's characteristics.
there is the green carpet which is David, being the strong one who carries all the weight so people can walk around safe and comfortably, hence a carpet, the yellow lamp for the Horde is of course the significance of each of the personalities carrying over the light to one another ending with Kevin. and lastly, the purple curtains signifying the "you never know whats behind the veil" idea and the obscurity of Elijahs genius/ master plan(s). think they were purposely kept closed because his end game wasn't yet revealed.
at least thats what I got from that shot and the items used with their designated colours.
*Today at the bank, an old lady asked me to help check her balance. So I pushed her over*
How'd that go?
Notice: this joke will soon be shared in rec centers throughout Sun City, AZ.
Clovers are also a protective plant. A shield for humanity against the supers, perhaps? Can't find any reference material at the moment, though.
First video of yours I've seen. I'm sure this video took a lot of work. You have a high attention to detail.
Well done, sir. I'll throw you a sub.
Incredible job🎬🖤, thank you for always producing great videos👍
I didn't realise it was a sequel until the cafe scene at the end 😂
Same
That Glass shirt is dope!
I'm glad because I just FINALLY watched "glass" I didn't get that ending at all!
It was perfect
I literally couldn’t stop thinking about the ending for days after I saw it
The sheer amount of foreshadowing is insane, and I can't believe I never noticed. David and Kevin are captured and then, what, immediately funneled to a facility? Their psychiatrist only has three days? There's the whole implications of lobotomy? And I never noticed how shady things were! How could we have missed that something else was going on?
I remember being underwhelmed when I saw it in the Cinema.. Just like the characters I was expecting the big rooftop fight the movie hinted towards but as time goes on it makes sense..
Damn it CZ! I was having an insightful exploration of Elijah's possible other ability within my mental landscspe, and then that Thomas the tank engine theme plays and takes me out of the moment. Now that theme is on repeat in my head, and I found myself bouncing to it LOL.
CZ be like, "Ha ha, GOTTEEM!!!"
Superb analysis
I'm looking this the 7th of December so...
Happy Birthday CZsWorld!
Thank you!
I also noticed that there are a lot of pops of yellow on the train in unbreakable before Dunn realizes everything. He is even wearing a yellow shirt.
Love this channel.
in the scene at the hospital where our main hero and villains are sitting across from the doctor. she's trying to convince them they're all just normal men.
then why is David chained to the floor? I mean I know why, but if she's telling him he doesn't have super strength I don't recall anyone asking: "if David
doesn't have super strength then why is wrapped in battleship chains and bolted to the floor?
This was awesome.
Should be: 177 Things You Missed.
I love The Eastrail 177 Trilogy.
It is very underrated.
I thought there was a clever & very subtle call back or early admittance that Split was the sequel to Unbreakable. By Kevin's friend that borrowed his headphones. And once Kasey finally gets to Kevin's friend, he's wearing & listening to Kevin's headphones that are almost identical to the same orange the orange man wore in Unbreakable
Great job, CZ!
I can’t wait!!
Wow amazing story and so unique
really good job glad I found you, I didn't even know Glass existed till I found you now I own it and yes its worth it:)
This video is perfect!
You deserve more you put so much work into ur videos :)
You had me with that brewers jab. Very nice
I will also be live in the chat when the video premieres!
See you there!
See you there!
Thank you; new sub😁💚
Excellent vid
*flailing at seeing my name mentioned in a movie and hearing my book be mentioned*
P.S. Dude! You got my last name right! Many pronounce it wrong.
P.P.S. DAXUS came out in 2018 as an ebook. The paperback came out later in 2019 after this movie was made.
In case you were wondering....and clearing the air.
4 is also death in Japanese culture, like how 13 is bad luck in the west, this is because the Japanese words for the number 4 and the word Death are similar in how they spelt in Japanese.
This was really neat. Such a cool trilogy. I'm sure we can expect a reboot in 10 years since entertainment is dying to that plague.
The cuts to him narrating on the train are a nice touch
loving all your shirts in the videos xD
I just noticed Mrs Price wears purple, Joseph wears green and Kasey wears yellow, indicating the bonds they have with their people
The shower curtain is yellow.. The woman is the psychologist looking behind the facade of the the did character.. Seeing the psycho taking over kevin
CZsWorld
: always good to see the brewers losing
me, a proud Wisconsiner: *upset gay cheese noises*
I like that in Unbreakable Elijah explains comic books distorted and exaggerated the truth of superhumans, giving them things like flight and eye lasers. They're capable of extraordinary things normal humans aren't but they're still human, they can't fly or shoot eye lasers.
Legit every single ad I saw during this video was for Brightburn...
thanks for doing this video it was awsome i own all three movies
It's interesting David is dressed in green, that's a secondary color that is normally (but not always) reserved for villains. Heroes are normally brightly colored in primary colors and villains darker secondary colors. There are exceptions of course like in Batman and this series is one as well.
At the end of glass when the beast hits Mr. Glass you can hear the sound of glass shattering and at the end Joseph is wearing green, Elijah's mom is wearing purple and Casey is wearing yellow
Great video! One thing, though ... While I liked your take on the Clover Society and what the tattoo might represent, I found a different possible explanation of what it might represent that seems to fit rather well. Personally, I feel it could actually represent one of two things: first, the more elementary example, being simply a representation of the entire movie trilogy; secondly, and what I personally feel fits best, that each leaf represents one of the main characters in the saga, and just as it was said that the emergence of one always brings out its opposition, coupled with Elijah's mom mentioning how there are two kinds of villain that a hero can face (as David does), that our hero & villains are three parts of a singular storyine, working in tandem. They each rely on the existence of the others to become exactly what they were meant to be.
3 leaf clover -> 3 days to convince them they’re normal
Please tell me where you got that Glass shirt, I need it! 😂
At a screening, sorry! I've gotten that question a lot.
You could make one from an old window
Can't wait
what more i observed:
1) in split, casey's uncle first enacts as if he is a bear(animal) to attract her when she is in camping with her father, causing casey to afraid most to the thought of the beast.
2) when elijah released the videos at the end, everyone watches them through the glasses of their devices(smart phones,tv's etc) as if Mr. Glass himself shown them.
I love how the arts department got to credit themselves in the newspapers it makes me happy that they got the liberty of doing so
I’m a year late but are we gonna talk about how Osaka Tower is from Die Hard?
Nakatomi Tower
Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!
Now if you ever fell bored the way you dont miss things i wouls love to see you try and do all the MCU lile this. Oh and pls keep up the good work. Booooooooy. Wink wink
Saved your birthday into my calendar 🎉
Loved these movies.... A lot.
So random thought connecting these movies to Signs. What if Bruce Willis's character is part alien from Signs or maybe even one of them made to look human or something. To give him a Superman type connection.
I'm working through a lot of things with Glass. A big part of what made Glass compelling in Unbreakable is the tragedy of this guy who is trying to give a reason for his extreme disability and when really there isn't any. He's not a supervillain and his plans to be one are mundane and brutish. He's just putting bombs in places. We find that there are super people but he isn't one of them. He's just a killer.
But in Mr.Glass he is being told he is a profound genius in the same breath that Dunn is being told that he doesn't have any super powers at all. I think Staple is buttering him up essentially saying "you're such a genius if I only there was a way that we could talk about how special you are... Too bad" I think she suspects he's faking. But he does pull off that plan at the end so idk.
Did you notice the flowers at the memorial were yellow. Do you think that was meant for the hord? Due to kevin's father being on it
I loove your episodes 😸😸😸
I have DID and the scene where they said that it is a power just made me feel important.- Jaxxsonn
these movies helped me get through school
I never know this was a trilogy till I saw the trailer for glass
Good stuff :p I rather enjoyed these movies. \m/
I’ve only seen the last movie but that ending at 30th street station makes me to to see a 4th movie
I would love to see that dancing sequence out takes. They must have lost it a few takes imagine Bruce Willis dancing in and joining everyone else dancing. At one point I worked as security for Stu Stegal studios sometimes the best stuff ends up on the floor
Heh, love that SoAD reference
Man I don't even want to take a guess at how long it took to compile all of this, great job!
Being located outside philly for all my life I get excited when there’s a Philly movie/it’s in the background and wish a fight scene happend downtown
But i do love ur videos 😉
Wait a minute... Teletubies... Purple... Green... Yellow... OMG THERE IS GOING TO BE A RED CHARACTER IN THE NEXT FILM!!!
I wish
“Doctors have bad handwriting” We really do. I don’t know why this is a universal trait.
You missed the reference that the abusive Woman in Red is a call to the stepmother dressed in red from 6th Sense that murdered the child also with your reference to the color coding if you see the color for split was going to always be yellow when they showed the comic book that Elijah was looking at when the superhero was wearing green the supervillain was colored yellow which would be split
