This is probably an omission of the screenwriters, who wanted Aegon to grow up to be a complete fool. I do not believe that planning to put a grandson on the throne, a man like Otto will simply ignore his upbringing and training, allowing him to become a drunken loser

@@vahagnmkhitaryan9909 no I meant really he should have been there for each and every child born in his family, starting with Alicent. Rhaenyra was flawed, but the one job she did flawlessly was bringing up her children. I think he should have taken a page out of her book.
Remember how Alicent couldn't even hug Aegon when he was sobbing for his child? That's a learned behavior. Aemond goes to a brothel just to feel some semblance of maternal comfort, or whatever tf he wants.
Otto was a flawless hand. I imagine, in performing his duty to the realm and furthering the future of his house, he didn't calculate just how important his duty to his own family was in terms of executing his strategy and plans.

I think this is Otto's greatest flaw. His entire time spent as hand was with him basically having full control over the governance of the realm. For the last 2 years of the aged king Jaehaerys' reign. And the soft and malleable King Viserys who often left ruling to his council. So he anticipated Aegon would follow in this path. But no, he wants to be his own man and pursue his own path and not listen to scheming geezers like Otto.

Otto fought to keep Daemon from the throne because he was an unstable nut, only to find out that his grandson Aegon II was also an unstable nut. He became the very same danger that Otto saw in Daemon. Every political battle he won, every compromise he made, just to make Aegon II the new king, he realizes now that it was all for naught. He just placed a less experienced version of Daemon on the throne.
