So glad I found this - this was one of my mum's favourite works, as well as mine. My mum bought a record of the symphony by error in the '60s, was actually trying to get the Piano Concerto no 2. Mum died earlier this year and she loved her music up to the end. I've heard a few piano arrangements of this movement but this is the only one that has moved me to tears, thank you.
Nicholas, this really is gorgeous, the best arrangement i have heard of it yet. very pianistic and you have a very delicate touch. Thank you and God bless you.
not only is this an incredible transcription, your performance somehow manages to capture the tragic beauty and layered complexity of the symphonic version. bravo
The recapitulation with the double treble figuration like Scriabin's Second Sonata was absolutely inspired. Took my breath away. This has to be the definitive transcription of this movement. I can't see it ever being surpassed. Bravo!
so glad to finally hear this version in full, thank you so much for this wonderful arrangement, i will listen to it over and over again. just noticed you also uploaded a performance video, i cant wait to watch that as well!
Well spotted - I was carrying the Sonata No. 1 in my recital programs while writing this arrangement and it was certainly an influence. Interestingly, the Sonata was written largely during the same period as the Symphony No. 2, and there are a lot of key similarities in compositional approach.
I absolutely never comment on RUclips but I had to say that this arrangement is absolutely stunning. The way it's written for the piano, the way it's performed... Congratulations ! It's amazing
As a huge fan of Rachmaninoff I had to stop and comment that this is one of the most amazing arrangement there has ever been. Thank you for uploading such a beautiful performance, you are truly a blessed artist :)
The best arrangement I’ve heard. Rachmaninov would’ve loved this! I like how this arrangement overall is inspired by Rach’s pianism, but also like how 8:25 this section sounds like as if Godowsky arranged it
Beautiful! I love the way it inventively combines themes too! Unbelievably gorgeous. Was privileged to hear you perform it live in San Jose for the Steinway Society last month!
A double bravo!!! First for the magnificent transcribing work on a demanding and (as always in Rachmaninoff's works) multitextural original: it is easy to imagine hearing an orchestra and the same time it is a very pianistic work, displaying also perfectly the way Rachmaninoff wrote for the piano. Second for your interpratation: you have a singing long lasting tone on the piano and create a truly romantic sound, while the whole texture is very clear, especially middle voices were out of this world. Thank you!!!
I just found this and I just have to learn this, I love this movement so much! Thank you so much for sharing this amazing transcription. I needed this today
Thank you very much! I'm not sure this particular kind of arrangement would work on a guitar, but perhaps someone that knows that instrument better than myself can give it a try :)
Bravo! A very good transcription and very well performed, adequately to the original! This movement is among my favourite Rachmaninov's pieces and I had not expected to find its piano version that would make a strong impression on me, but here it is, bravo again!
miraculous transcription! I bought the score from muse press and have been practicing for several weeks The 3 hand section is very difficult but matchless I would like to know if you work on other works.
Thank you very much! This is my first arrangement, and will certainly not be my last :) Muse Press has also just published a related work of mine, "Memories of Rachmaninoff's Georgian Song".
What a stunningly beautiful piano . . . each key like a little pearl. Really beautiful. Okay . . . . the playing was good too, but . . . dang what about that piano ??????
Thank you very much! You can get the score in both download and hard copy versions from the Muse Press website, you'll find the link in the video description.
This is one of the best ever transcriptions I have ever come across in my life.
Thanks so much!

A transcription like one of the old masters. Stunning.

definitely reminds me a lot of the 2nd movement of his 1st piano sonata

Thank you very much! You can get the score in both download and hard copy versions from the Muse Press website, you'll find the link in the video description.
Can someone tell us, where this was recorded and who the piano technician was? It's an exceptionally well prepared Steinway D.
This was recorded at Bella Concert Hall in Calgary. The technician was Matthew Moffatt - he's fantastic!
@@NicolasNamoradze It was a Hamburg D, right? If not, you were privileged to play the best NY Steinway D I have ever listened to.
@@OE1FEU A Hamburg D indeed!
7:15
how is that even playable
Takes some practice! You can find a live video recording of this on my channel too.
Great transcription, but too much rubato for me…
