The sea is tough. Watching these videos is frustrating, and witnessing the huge amount of power that Mother nature has on us all is a sign that, even when we believe we are well prepared, then a storm shows suddendly to test our psychological & physical limits. I wish calm seas to everyone here, and that you can find happiness by being able to tell this story. Good luck & stay safe
Planning long trips will be more and more difficult. What were Jacues Cousteau's stories all about.. He was trying so hard to tell us while I was just a kid.
As a sailor I do not understand why the skippers lifted off the anchorage when the storm came. In stormy seas you need to get away from land as soon as possible despite you are in a harbour.
Terrifying. Never underestimate the power of a storm, especially when you are on the water. Be safe. Always check the weather. Don't get caught on a rocky weather shore. These people were very lucky to escape with their lives.
The ports were full. These people chose to take shelter in the worst place. A boat is made for weathering a storm at sea, not anchored 50m from the rocks.
They were safer staying on the boat than risking getting caught between it and the rocks. What do you think they could have done to save the boat at that point?
Serious ???? This storm was forecasted, days in advance. And then you anchor in a bay with absolutely no protection whatsoever ? These 'boaters' don't belong on the water, they should stay on the shore. Absolutely no need to be in this storm in this location, hope the insurance will make them pay.
Pain full to watch and totally avoidable. When it come to rough weather, most horrible place one can be at is at anchor close to shore. Miles better to be far away from land and that is why one practice heavy weather sailing. No matter how good weather program one use, Mother nature will always have other ideas.
Classic anchor drags on a Lee shore. I can almost promise that the primary anchor was undersized & no backup rode/anchor was at the ready or even on the boat. What a waste.
Que bien que al final pudieran rescatar a todos, bravo a los de la motora y a los de las rocas por ayudar ...!!! Esto de cuando es? La misma que hace un par de de semanas o ha habido otra ahora??
No storm sails deployed, the genoa isn’t furled at all - don’t anchor on a Lee shore where the winds are blowing the vessel to the land, get some training or make it a law to have adequate training- the ICC qualification is absolutely pathetic and is invented by useless European bureaucrats- The incompetent ICC qualification lures crew into thinking their Captain is trained, the Mediterranean is awash with captains completely untrained with no experience, out of their depth and a danger to everyone else especially their friends on board the yacht they are pretending too them with a dangerous deception!
Skipper here. It is always safer to stay on a boat as long it floats. Over here, they would risk being smashed on and off the rocks, so it was actually wise to wait for the rescue via dinghy but have to mention that they've made lots of mistakes to get to this situation.

They won't be living aboard that anytime soon..
Anybody know background of situation? Why so many boats anchored in unsafe place? Was it common mistake or wind forecast changed or what?

Les gens qui étaient sur place expliquent qu'avec les conditions rencontrées, ce n'étaient pas possible, le vent était trop fort pour un voilier.
Awesome video. I pray everyone on board that yacht made it off safely. 🙏
Muy bien grabado. Gracias...

Also, many sailboats have too small anchors and/or not enough chain.
I suspect charter boats. I saw exactly the same in the Whitsunday Islands.

Why did they stay at anchor, they should have sailed out.
These are charter boats captained by weekend warriors. They didn't even bothered to check the weather, much less sail out to battle the storm at sea.
anchor is not a good idea at this storm. Better to lift anchor, start the engine and go away from breaking waves into the open sea
I bet they even cannot swim
Or at least have engine running taking weight off the anchor
What a nightmare
God that was terrifying to watch, having been at anchor worrying about the anchor dragging. Living through it… wow.
!👍💛💛💛💛💛💛
Dreadful, the ports should be accessible for everyone in bad conditions. This is ridiculous.

Is it just me? Those blokes were just hanging on, in no hurry to get off, and they weren't doing anything to save themselves or the ship either.

A heavy sized anchor never replaces seamanship and the right anchorage respecting the upcoming weather.
How come they all ended up on a Lee shore? Didn’t they know weather was coming and have time to get offshore in open water?
This is not the weather to be out in a sailboat near a rocky coastline.
Oh, I did not immediately understand that that was a katmaran once!
Hay que mirar Windy, AEMET y ponerse a resguardo a tiempo.
Why did they all anchor at what looks like a surf spot? That beach looks completely unsheltered.
