Very good point on the aero gains of no tail on a road helmet. The first gen Evade was know to be much less aero as soon as a few degrees of yaw angle or ‘head twist’ were introduced

Yep, as with some many things, they are designed to show good results in the wind tunnel for marketing purposes, but in real world use, often disappoint.

Useful seeing how it fits, looks like you have the same issue as me - the helmet seems to sit too far forward, judging by the larger gap between the straps in front of your ear. That's not really an issue, except it results in the chin strap sitting too far forward which can be uncomfortable. It's a shame there's no adjustment here. I'm going to attempt to shorten the rear straps to correct this somewhat.

Do you notice if the Protone Icon is a tad bit wider on the sides compared to the 2020 model? It looks a bit bulkier when worn on the head but maybe that's just my eyes! Sweet grey on the Icon btw.

I think the external dimensions are pretty much identical, but I know the US version is bigger.

Where did you get that black 2020 Protone? The low quality pads and higher weight all line up with my experience of cheap Chinese replicas. I have the same blue and black original Protone as you do, and the pads are exactly the same as on yours, my size M is 220g. I also have a Chinese fake that is 240g and has the same lower quality pads as your black one. I'm convinced yours is also a fake. Good news about the new Icon though :)

That's a good point, and I can't rule out that it might be fake, although if it is, it's an extremely good one. For example the rear cradle is EXACTLY the same and I remember it came in a proper Kask box. I need to try to remember (not my strong point) where I bought it....

@@CyclespeedTours yeah I was surprised by how good the copy was too, from the perfect shape thanks to an identical mould, to the straps and retention system. Amazing what they can do and sell for £20 compared to the real ones for £150. But you see where they cut corners with cheaper parts, it simply doesn’t last as long. The official one also fits better on my head, very snug and comfortable, while the copy seems to be more on top of my head although still comfortable, just sits higher.

The middle one looks like a knock off. I have a mat black protone it has black lettering I’ve never seen a mat black with white lettering. There’s a lot of fakes out there.

Unfortunately I associate this helmet and the Evade with all the dickheads who seem to own them. Glad you’re an exception. P.s you strike me as someone who has a smoking younger girlfriend and no excess ‘baggage’ to deal with. If so - kudos, and please share you wisdom 😄👍

LOL!! Well, she was smoking, but I told her she had to stop.....! Younger is nice, but in life you learn that it's more about the person than the age....
The nice thing about the Protone is that it's an aero helmet that doesn't look like one or tries too hard. And it's very light.
