In this episode I show you how to mod a Boss FS-5L foot switch LED to operate off of a pedal board friendly 9v input. If you don't feel up to the task I can mod your FS-5L for a small price. Connect with me through my website.

dang, so the latching button is just that small microswitch??

Yep. They look pretty cheap but work well. I still use mine. Just preference at this point since there are so many switching options these days.

@@jasonlamarking I needed a latching footswitch for a guitar amp. Wondering whether (1) I should just buy this or (2) do some momentary to latching relay stuff adaptor for my existing momentary footswitches or (3) see if I can replace one of the footswitches switch to a latching ones :)

im interested in doing this but I think something may be wrong with my pedal and I don't want to spend the time on it if it's broken. The LED flickers almost like the batteries are dying when the switch is engaged. I put brand new AAA's in there but it still does the same thing.

Really smoth! Is there a vid where u use it to switch some stomps like Angry driver/mfx processor or amp channels?

I just got into your channel and I like your content. New subscriber. Could you recommend some plans or make a video on how to make a power main on/off switch for a pedalboard? Something like the temple audio power module. It’s 50 bucks but I wonder how much it would cost to make your own. I have power cables laying around and though I could DIY one to save money.

Do you have a mod to add an LED to the FS-5U?

Could you help me? I just want a pedal that allows me to change the configuration of my amplifier by stepping on it, for example from clean to overdrive. I read that my amplifier is compatible with this pedal but I have seen that it is a "latching pedal" and I do not know what it means. I am a beginner and I am very confused.

Could you do this with a fs6? Because I'm always forgetting to pull the plug out and a pedal board power supply would be good.

Hi! Is there any way to mod one of these into an unlatched footswitch? Basically transforming it into a FS-5U... Thanks!

I mean you could but you might as well just find a used one, they are cheap as chips.

Hi! I have tried to change the resistance with one of 2,7 kOhm to use 9V instead of 3V, but now nothing works: the LED works and has a 3V tension, but the switch doesn't works... I try to put all in original config, but still only LED works... Any suggestion? (I don't want to put in the thrash the new Boss FS-5L I have bought Yesterday...)

    • @DoItYourselfMusician

+FndrStrat72 The power in the pedal only drives the LED and has no effect on anything else. The pedal should still function as a switch for the 1/4" jack. Did you test it? A person could theoretically remove the LED and current limiting resistor entirely and the pedal would still function as a switch. If your LED is staying on constantly and not switching you should check the polarity of your power.

Does it mean that footswich is going to operate with a dead batteries (without the light going on/off)?

    • @KirkJanowiakAngelwood
      @KirkJanowiakAngelwood 5 лет назад +2

@@beknazartolemissov7563 Yes. The power is only and entirely for the little LED. The ON/Off feature does NOT require power in order to work. I did not even know mine had an LED in it until years after purchase! I bought my first one used and the little label on the bottom with the instructions of swapping out the battery had fallen off long before. I used it for On/OFF switching for an old effect and just "remembered" what position it was in by whether I could hear the effect or not (grin). THEN I learned there was a battery compartment and a little LED. Wonder of wonders, the switch just became more useful! The is true for both the Latching (L) and the Unlatchung (U) versions of the foot switches.

@@KirkJanowiakAngelwood thank you for your reply! back in those days I had been looking for some footswitches to operate my pedalboard, however later I decided to stick to boss gt 1 as it's compact, mobile and has a possibility to assign various effects to its 3 onboard switches, one concern that it is plastic though).
Anyway, adding couple of footswitches is still going to be really handy, - I'm thinking of Boss FS6 and wonder if it's possible to make it work from battery (read it works of power supply, however there are times when power outlet isn't available on some local bar stages)?

    • @KirkJanowiakAngelwood

Beknazar Tolemissov : If you don’t get TOO excited when you are playing (and pedal dancing), I think you’ll find that GT unit will do well for you. Yes, they are certainly convenient! With regard to adding a battery to the foot switch (because of lack of AC outlets, etc.) I have not looked inside at the actual circuit board of those newer Boss/Roland switches, so I do not know if they take the 9volts from the adapter and step it down for the LED through some extra circuitry. If they do, it should be no problem to simply make a little battery harness soldered to a Boss compatible p,ug and use the battery like people do when they use a battery pack to charge their phones. I don’t use one, but have seen them used. You can by the little snap-on harness for under $1 and the plugs are available online at numerous electronics outlets or at electronics brick & mortar shops. You might even already have a dead adapter you can scavenge the plug from. Just be observant of wiring the + & - to the correct tip or outer ring of the plug.
