Hey! I'm visiting japan from the US in a handful of weeks and was starting to get slightly cold feet but seeing the cherry blossoms bloom has been a dream of mine and this video just made my anxieties all go away. Thank you so much :)
I love Japan and have been there 3 times (for 4 weeks each), and will be there for 4 more weeks in March. I cant wait. Dont be worried about your trip there. Japan is very well organised and everything is well explained, sign posted, described etc. also in english. And Japanese people in general are very kind and helpful. Even in the biggest city on earth (Tokyo), if you look lost for 30 seconds or so, a kind japanese person will most probably come to your help.
We are also "chasing cherry & sakura blossoms" this spring. We are arriving Fukuoka last week of March hoping to see the blossoms and then the first week will be in Osaka/Kyoto and the last week will be in Tokyo.
I really like the walk around videos. It's cool to see places where we've been, brings back memories. I can't wait to go to Japan in May, we're visiting Tokyo first, then Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka.
Shinjuku Gyoen is marvellous in the spring and autumn! It is a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle, especially if you get there early in the day. I was there mid-December and it was very warm for the season (around 16C degrees that day).
I loved this Tokyo street walking tour to Shinjuku to see these beautiful cherry blossoms which is on my to do list when I visit Japan hopefully soon!! 🌸🌸❤❤
That's quite late for cherry blossoms, they don't last long. However, last year they were late, so you never know! Look up spots for late blooming varieties, or if you go north, or into the mountains, you'd be able to catch them in full bloom, because they bloom later where it's cooler.
I was in Tokyo about a week ago for the sumo tournament, and stayed at the Hotel Gracery for a couple days. I did not get a chance to visit Shinjuku Park, but will be on my list for my next visit. I had to catch the Chuo-Sobu Line to the arena, and let me just say, Shinjuku Station is bonkers! Great video as always. Thank you!
The Bic Camera close to Shinjuku station is rediculously huge. And they have absolutely everything. I had forgotten the socket conversion from Japanese outlet to Euroean outlet. They had them in any color you like. I bought a few and got my phone and laptop charged before I ran out of power 🙂
I'm hoping for a Nov-Dec visit this year. Jury's out as to if I can swing it, but you never know. In the meantime I continue to enjoy and very much appreciate your videos. 😊
Love love love your vids, been to Japan twice already and these vids have helped me so much with my planning! Forever grateful Amy & Phil, sending you both big hugs from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺🦘🐨🤗🤗
Me, my wife and our youngest daughter visited Shinjuku park a few weeks later than you. It was green and some of the Sakura trees was starting to bloom ever so slightly. We left late in March but no Sakura blossoms for us. The early ones was almost gone. The park is quite nice. We walked from Kabukicho in Shinjuku to Shinjuku park, then to Harajuku, and finally to Shibuya. It's a long walk, but a nice one if you have good shoes and time to spare.
I've been to that bakery before! There is a cute shrine right by there, Hanazono Shrine that is decent sized. I also saw a Akiba Shrine by the park that was so tiny. was like crammed between two huge buildings.
Shinjuku park is going to be on my list of places to visit nexttime I'm in Tokyo. We went to the Bic Camera the last time we were in Tokyo and my daughter was blown away with key board section and the fact that you could try them out as well! Just to comment on the difference between Bic and Yodbashi Camera, my daughter (who has autism) found the constant music that was played in Yodbashi Cameria very overwheming, Despite the crowds in BIC Camera she could tolerate it better
Hii so I'm going to Japan sometime next year and have a question regarding eating snacks, deserts like what I learned is that you're not supposed to eat on the street. So like where are you supposed to eat or can eat if you bought something from a konbini are there benches like in europe to sit down and eat or? Because going to like a park is fine at times but paying money everytime u buy something to eat and paying money to enter a park everytime like Idk I mean there must be other places where u can eat lol
You're right, it's a faux pas t eat walking around the streets. It can be tricky! Some convenience stores have a little area where you can sit, although that's not very common in Tokyo. I'd usually head to a park. There are lots of small parks around. Pretty much all of them are free to enter; Shinjuku Park is more like a garden so that's why it has an entrance fee. Many department stores also have roof terraces where you could sit and eat. Or if you find benches outside a station, for example, that's ok. It's a lot easier when it's warm, dry weather than in the winter or when it's raining!
12:04 The reason there are trash cans there is because it's in a paid area. The concept is the same as trash cans on train station platforms, like you are a paying customer/user until you leave the station by go through ticket gates. In side train stations and paid parks may appear to be public places at first glance because tons of strangers there, but in the eyes of their operators, the people there, including you, are in a sense customers. It's exactly the same as having trash cans inside Tokyo Disneyland. > 12:30 "And benches! Also quite rare in Japan." Again, it's exactly the same as having benches on train station platforms :)
Like you, I like to stay in Shinjuku. However, I find the hotel gracery too pricey for me. Do you have a reccomandation for getting a special deal there, or any channel, where its cheaper ? Or do you just dont mind spending more money to stay there ? We always stay in Nishi-Shinjuku, in a well priced businnes hotel - Nishitetsu Inn Shinjuku. Its just 10 minutes walking distance to Kabuchiko and Omode Yukicho, and on the way there, there is a small and lovely temple, where we can always enjoy cherry blossoms, without other people. I am very happy with this hotel, as its also very quiet. But I just wonder about Gracery hotel prices (you dont seem to be people who like to pay a lot of money for a normal room in a big city).
Nishitetsu Inn looks like a great choice! This time, we paid about £160 per night at the Gracery. There are hotels that are cheaper, but we liked it so much last time that we didn't mind paying a little extra to stay there. The location's excellent, in the middle of Shinjuku and a very short walk to the station. As the hotel starts on a high floor, you're guaranteed to have city views from your room, which while non-essential is something we always like. The room size is similar to many other hotels but the bathroom's more spacious. The price of course depends on the day of the week, time of year and how far in advance you book. By booking so many hotels through Expedia we get a lower rate with them by moving up a tier.
This was the first week of March. There's an early blooming cherry blossom festival in Kawazu on the Izu Peninsula near Tokyo from 10th Feb to 10th March, that'd make a great day trip if you want to see lots of cherry blossoms! You might also see plum blossoms around too.
This was in early March. The main sakura season usually starts in the last week of March, but you can catch a few early blooming varieties before that.
the best place and time , is when the moment is at full Bloom , the Season of Cherry Blossom 🌸 is the Time ⏳ of Dreams , the Tears of a Dreamcatcher are Precious , the fall of the Cherry Blossom Petals 🌸, is as the fall of the tears of the Dreamcatcher " , catch the petal , catch the tear 💧 , catch the Dream and make a wish 🌠⭐.
It was early March last year, so a similar time to when you'll be there! Last year was particularly cold; the same time the year before was warmer than this.
Is that really called "Shinjuku Park" in English or did you shorten the real name for some reason? For us locals, Shinjuku Park (新宿公園) is a completely different park that is way smaller and unrelated to the huge park in the video.
Strictly speaking, on Google Maps it's Shinjuku Gyoen National Park, but I've often seen it referred to as Shinjuku Gyoen or Shinjuku Park. Also seen a few people getting mixed up & referring to it as Gyoen Park - I guess if you don't know that Gyoen means park, it can be easy to get mixed up with unfamiliar place names...! 🙈
What a pity that, this video has no audio track in Portuguese Br... We're one of the biggest people who watch RUclips the most on TV, and the automatic audio track is too good.

Ah that's great to hear! When I first went, I was excited but also nervous about a lot of things! (That's part of why I make my videos, and my book).
I was a bit nervous my first time (been twice) but after a few days you get used to everything and realize the nerves were nothing to worry about
@@bretth3224 thank you, that genuinely helps to hear!

It's so peaceful isn't it, even though it's so close to hectic Shinjuku. A lovely break from the city.
This was so lovely, thanks for sharing Amy
You never know what you'll see on the streets of Tokyo!
I loved this Tokyo street walking tour to Shinjuku to see these beautiful cherry blossoms which is on my to do list when I visit Japan hopefully soon!! 🌸🌸❤❤

Fantastic, you'd never expect a choice of colours! Definitely the place to go if you've forgotten anything.
I like your videos; they are clear and nicely varied. I can't wait to already be in Japan next week!
Thanks so much! Where are you going in Japan, and what are you looking forward to most? :-)

It was a surprise to everyone how late the cherry blossoms were last year.
I regret not tasting anything sakura flavoured when we were there last year during sakura season 😢
Japan's all about limited edition, special editions so whenever you go, there'll be something that's only available at that time of year!
I've been to that bakery before! There is a cute shrine right by there, Hanazono Shrine that is decent sized. I also saw a Akiba Shrine by the park that was so tiny. was like crammed between two huge buildings.
I remember sitting in Hanazono Shrine on one of my first few trips to Japan before we could check into the hotel, feeling jetlagged and fuzzy!!
I'm in Shinjiku at the moment! Are the early blossoms out already?! That would be amazing to see!
This was filmed in early March, sorry! Hope you're having an amazing time in Tokyo!
@cakeswithfaces ahh no worries! So far it's been amazing ♥️

That's a good point, I think of them as very similar, but that's an important distinction if you're sensitive to it!
I believe we sat down for a break at those benches 🙂
Happy memories! 🎶
Justice for Plum Blossoms!
(Came back from Tokyo less than 24h ago, and watching this felt like torture)
Cherry blossoms shouldn't get all the attention. 😅 I know that feeling - as many times as I go to Japan, I always want to go back.

That makes sense! I never expect bins at stations as we don't have them in London (for safety reasons).

I’m staying at the Gracery Shinjuku in March. Any chance the Godzilla terrace will be open by then?
I don't know when it'll re-open I'm afraid, I'm not sure why it was closed.
Hi, when was this video taken ? I am going in the second week of February, do you think I will be able to catch some early cherry blossom ?

I zoomed in on the Vending machine and you can Tap to pay with your Credit card too to get your points from your local bank
That's quite unusual on vending machines, they don't often take cards!

why not IC for the park entrance?
You can also use IC card ☺️
When did you make this video? I'm traveling to Tokyo in 6 weeks. 🎉
It was early March last year, so a similar time to when you'll be there! Last year was particularly cold; the same time the year before was warmer than this.
Is anyone flying from London to Tokyo on 26.4. with ANA?
