Executive Laundry pro here 👋🏻 the key to being successful with poplin is to build a base of high tipping, regular customers and doing multiple pick ups/drop offs at the same time. It takes a while to really get going, but you can make decent money once you do. And yes, please wear gloves 😆
@@YourDriverMike my biggest expense is the increase in my electric bill, but that will vary based on local rates. Bags are cheap when bought in bulk and it’s easy to get free or heavily discounted detergent with deals and coupons. The base pay is garbage, but the high tippers will make it worth it. Bonuses will go as high as $40, so that helps too!
I just don't like the idea of having to use my own personal washer. I would take it to a laundromat and do it there. I'm OCD and I don't like nobody else's clothes in my washer.
Hah, saw that order popup :) Already had 3 orders going, and it's in the forbidden zone across the rivers :-P My comments as I watch your video: Bags at pickup are for transferring from hamper to your bag, they don't need to be clear. Strong 33 gallon bags are good to have on hand for this but usually you just get bags they leave out. The fancy labels are for dropoff bags, use anything to tag what you pickup (Tape is fine and a sharpie) Bag size grading at pickup I usually say small for grocery bag sizes, regular for 13 gallon size, and large if it's larger than 13 gallon. I believe this adjusts their credit card hold but may only be used for averaging order pricing. Pre-weigh you don't need to bother with unless you think it's 100 lbs or more (For requesting an extension). Regarding ribbon, they will grant you bonus points after you deliver (they (Poplin) review the photos and comment sometimes) for good presentation, ribbon, etc. They'll ALSO DEDUCT points if they see issues (Garbage bags with the ties still on them vs. ribbon). If you have a scale that you can reliably get a good weight on (Suggest one w/separate display) you can put 100.0 for your weight and then just 1xx.x for each bag. Suggest having some long kitchen rubber gloves for handling the laundry, you don't know what you're diving into! Suggest using color catchers for laundry loads, cheap insurance. Don't suggest using free and clear unless they request it since there is no scent, can result in complaints. That is a low tip, most of my tips have been in the 40-100% range. I think this app does well once you establish a set of regular customers, spreading your QR code to get more active clients in the area helps (And they have some pre-made things you can print up on Canva). So get your QR code out there Mike, drum up some more business in this area :)
Gross Revenue: $30.00 Costs: Mileage Deduction: $10.65 (15.9 miles x $.67 IRS optional mileage deduction) Detergent: $.20 per load ($21.99/110 loads max) Plastic Garbage Bag: $.32 ($31.99/100 bags) Poplin Label: $.03 ($7.99/300 labels) Then water, electric and one time cost for the scale. Lots to consider
.. better than a 7 dollar UE or DD order , plus gas, oil changes etc . And driving 7 miles to pick up and another 7 back home .. in the rain , heat rtc.. or your at the comforts of home , doing laundry in your pj's. .. no rushing .. 30 bucks sounds good to me for that . @@YourDriverMike

I would do this with my wife. She stays home with kids i can pick up loads and drop them off on down time doing dd and ue wifey can do it while on my regular shift and drop them of again on my way to my shift
That’s what I’m thinking. WFH employees would do this very easily. It’s just the water and electric cost you’d need to watch but can’t you write off the % used for business? Def talk to a CPA though about that
To confirm, yeah as a customer I've provided cloth hampers of clothes (the tall ones with handles) or my large laundry bags in the past. The next day, I receive my laundry back in a driver's personal garbage bags with my hampers next to it and my laundry bag folded inside their bags. Which always felt weird, I would be totally fine if they reused my bags. Always felt a bit wasteful.

@@YourDriverMike I’m in central California. I may get more if I move closer to the bigger cities but I’ve extended my coverage to see if get anything far away. Nothing yet. So far I’ve been telling people at work and friends about it. I’m hoping that it will get well known eventually

I don’t have $100 to get started with something that doesn’t have any kind of guaranteed return. I’ve read a bunch about how you have to do work to get work. You start out at the bottom. Everyone who has been doing this already gets everything first. You basically have a DD 0% AR. I’m going to say this every time. The only way to really make money at gig work is to monetize a YT channel about it.
The ratings system is unique in that sense, people who have been doing this for years have tons of points already. I will say there are good gig apps out there apart from monetizing on socials which in itself is a great side hustle.
The first comment assumes all regions are saturated by gig services, they are not. Many many suburbs lack services still, so I believe there is always a way to find a needy area and build your rep. If I owned a laundromat I’d give access to my underused machines (certain hours are dead) and folders to apps/drivers like this at a discount as a partner to be honest.
😂lmaf youtube definitely tracking my iphone usage! I was just searching and applying for poplin and u video popped up wtf😂 but hey, i never wanted to finish applying its so complicated no no no
@@YourDriverMike So your saying that Poplin will reimburse you for using your own money to wash the clothes at the Laundromat? I think it should be that they need pay us money for the laundromat.
Imagine if you somehow outsourced the pickup and drop off via Uber Package Delivery..... Then you could make it a 100% at home side hustle. One can dream.
Yeah and If you can scale it up with the pickup and delivery then get a long term cheap partner rate at a laundromat for when they are quiet, you can then do multiple loads in parallel. Slam out any number of loads in same time as one (more or less).that’s be intense but is the secret 🤫
That's what I think sometimes, at this point just create an LLC and do it yourself but these apps do part of that heavy lifting for you by sourcing clients.
I would not consider this worth it unless you're being paid at least $200 per run (just talking about what the labor is worth; not talking about the cost of supplies). Being paid $30 for all that work is ludicrous!
Some people do, if you're going to buy something though get a scale meant for larger packages that has a separate display, ~$35-50 range. Then you can just put 100.0 lbs for your weight and put 1xx.x for the laundry weigh. Put a laundry basket on the scale and tare it out so drooping bag edges don't cut the weight down.
Not wearing gloves while handling others peoples dirty clothes is crazy. You dont know what type of bodily fluids are on there...even if you dont get sick often gloves are for hygenic purposes
I think of it as a decent filler app, like Walmart Spark. If I'm near by I can grab one but my biggest concern is the operational costs (water, electric etc) especially at scale. Most of the work is passively done by the machines but then there's wear and tear. Conversely there's wear and tear on your vehicle with other gig apps.
For sure. I haven’t washed my colors separate for 25 years. The cost of soap and bags. Even one bag is gonna be at least to loads so double the water. Unless you were guaranteed like 20 customers a week to start it’s not worth it. These people on YT and Reddit are coping majorly.
😂the time u spent typing u can do 2 DoorDash orders 🤣 sure its money loosing gig for sure. And if u spent time doing at night when you supposed to edit your videos hahaha hell no
