    This was a big help, not just for making SNMP v3 work with a Cisco device, but also for all the other devices I have reporting to PRTG via SNMP. Thank you for the excellent crash course!

    Thank you Jeremy for this Nugget. Reading all the Cisco documentation did not help me. But, this nugget did. Your nugget helped me with Cisco IOS CLI. My question is. I am having trouble getting SNMP v3 working with my Cisco 5548 Nexus device. I used same command minus the v3 (didn't like that part) and it took it but still doesn't work. Am I missing something?

    Thank you for sharing this MicroNugget. You have made configuring SNMPv3 look simple. I have noticed that you did not user a snmp-server host command. Is that no longer neccessary?

    • @cbtnuggets
      @cbtnuggets  8 лет назад +1

      +Jesse Smith Great question! In previous SNMP versions, the snmp-server command created your "security" by associating a community string with a specific IP address of the monitoring server. Now that we're using user-based authentication in SNMPv3, the snmp-server command is optional (you can add it for additional security, but SNMP will work without it).

  • @RD-ni7qe
    @RD-ni7qe 4 года назад

    Can you have multiple SNMP agents using different SNMP versions if your SNMP manager is V3?
    Or, if your SNMP manager is V3 does that mean that all agents also need to be V3?

  • @MJ16Othman
    @MJ16Othman 8 лет назад

    But Jeremy you didnt point out where to send the traps to example: snmp-server host "ip-address"

    Are there any networking gurus on this forum that can help me?
    in conf T mode, I type snmp-server but do not get a "view" option after this.
    I can only enter the "community" command.
    I have tried this on 2811 and 2911.
    Can anyone help with this?

      Most of the snmp-server commands do not work in packet tracer. They only work on real equipment. In the video I am pretty sure Jeremy is using real Cisco devices since he is using Putty

    Mr.CBT NUGEETS/Jeremy I am trying to prepare for ICND1 certification and I listened to your CBT Nuggets audios, they were not for all type of level individuals, meaning not every person could understand it, If someone with no experience with It and listen to those audios you created, they'll not be able to understand it, why BECAUSE YOU BEING AROUND THE BUSH, you do not go straight to the subject or you DO NOT explain it clearly, I know you want to make money, but please DO NOT SCREW people when they purchase your products, so be honest to yourself and earn It is a CLEAN AND HONEST WAY, EXPLAIN THESE PROTOCOLS AS CLEARLY POSSIBLE, and then feed your family with those money that you earne It, In a clear and clean way. BE HONEST.
