thanks for the video, I've learned more than I have with any other video. I have a Massey Ferguson 231, grandpa passed away and lost the repair manual. so you've really helped me out. thanks again. please post more videos
Wow, what a great comment. I am so glad I was able to help out and I will be making more videos. Did you see the one where I changed the clutch in my tractor? That was a real job, I would love to hear what you think. I also did a pretty good one on how to get it unstuck by yourself, I hope you will look it up. Thanks for watching.
Great video you are an inspiration. I bought a MF-265 for my brother in law and it's in the garage now I am changing the fluids. Once it's done it will be transported north to run an auger for fencing. Need to get the hydraulic filter off next. Kudos to you.
That is an awesome comment, I am so honored it was one of my videos that go you out of your shyness. I hope you will watch a few more of mine and leave a few more comments now that the ice is broken. Thanks so much for watching and for the comment.
I love mine too, and you are so right about the sipping of the fuel. Thanks for watching and did you see my clutch rebuild on this same tractor. I would like to hear what you think.
Awesome video! I also have a MF255 and the steering pump is empty and probably I will need to change the filter. What type/kind of fluid do you use for your pump? Thank you!
I think I just put regular car power steering fluid, but it has been a while. Maybe google it first. thanks for watching.(Quick google search advised: Use type A suffix A power steering fluid, or use Dextron II Trans fluid)
MF 35/135/240 Series are the best small tractors ever made by a country mile !..they could still sell these models all over the world by there thousands in their original format ,no fancy electrics etc.My family farmed within 1 1/2 MLS of the factory at Banner Lane Coventry England (Check out your tractor plate ).PS. good video ,look after her they are like gold every where ! regards.from over the pond.
You could do a tractor service where you work on other people's land, then you could justify needing a tractor. I don't know what I would do without mine. I was down for over a year and I missed it a bunch. Thanks for watching.
Yes, it could use some paint all over. Maybe I will do a piece here and there. I have thought about taking the hood and fenders to a body shop and then ordering new decals, but I am probably too cheap. Then you would have to worry about scratches. Either way, by the time I finish, it will be time to start over. Thanks for watching.
Nah, I'd just paint it with a few rattlecans, that way if it scratches no big deal. You and your daughter are very artistic maybe one of you could just paint the name on. I guess the main thing is that it works. Thanks for making the kool videos.
I have also have a 230 and have the factory service manual,if anyone needs to know any thing from the service manual,245 is set up like the 230,just bigger tractor! Thanks for the video!
This is great. Ran across this while trying to find how to replace my power steering pump. I have a 1978 245 and you have inspired me to do a little fixing on it, maybe some painting. I love this tractor. I have had to stop it with the choke lever for years, would like to use a key. Would you know the name of the part on the tractor I might be looking to replace since you are familiar with the 245's.
I need to do th same for my 1045. Needs some paint, my area aroung the grille is silver and so are the rims. I also need to get some flashers. Nice work!
great video, brings back a lot of memories, grew up driving a Massey 35. Do your self a favor though any time when your working on the fuel system use gloves, because there is such a high content of water mixed in Diesel fuel it contains a high level of micro-organisms..... not good for your health..... go to any truck stop all the attendants use gloves because its SOP.....
I would check it first with the air filter, if no change, might change the fuel filter next. If no improvement, I would try it with no muffler... trying cheap experimental stuff first. If still no change could be the injectors or fuel distributor... Good luck and let me know what happens. thanks for watching.
@@chud327 will do man. I’m Normally pretty good at being a mechanic. Besides tearing into it, I’m stumped. But I will definitely let you know what’s going on
Do the perkins always make that knock in the engine? I have a 165 and it sounds like the engine is knocking but I'm not sure what it is. Not the pumps, checked all that.
i have a 230...and she keeps bogging down...ive changed the fuel filter. could the muffler have anything to do with it. olus it sounds bad when working her...i need help
I am not sure, I guess it could be a stopped up exhaust, a pinched fuel line, a bad injector, stopped up air filter, etc. There are a bunch of possibilities, but it is hard to guess with out being with the tractor. I hope you can figure it out and thanks for watching.
I would guess one of the fingers on the pressure plate had the pin fall out. That is what happened to mine. That is, as long as you pedal and linkage is still working right. You will have to break it in half to find out. If you were local, I could come help... Thanks for watching and good luck.
Is your 245 a diesel, shouldn't have a distributor... Wait, do you mean fuel injections distributor? I did it in this video, but I am guess that was not enough to help you. I bet there is a manual online that shows how it goes together. I will take a quick look and see if I can find one. BTW, thanks for watching.
Google had a bunch of images and some look very familiar to what I have. I didn't take mine all the way apart, but from the images, there are a bunch of parts in there. Maybe some of those will help you. I hope this helps.
Mine is not a diesel. Yes there are a few parts in there but I have it all cleaned up just looking for someone with experience putting it back together.
I didn't know that 245 came with gas engines. I would think a distributor would be easier that a fuel distributor. At least you will not have diesel all over you hands...
you should replace that glass bowl with a metal one. I bought a new glass bowl and two weeks later it cracked for no reason and I lost 30$ diesel too all on my shop floor.
As far as I know, this is the original glass bowl from 1977, watch it be broke the next time I look... I hope I don't have diesel on the ground anytime soon and thanks for the tip. Thanks for watching.
I just got finished with my Massey 250, did new con rod bearings, new head gasket, fuel filters, new suspension seat, new exhaust muffler, new paint and decals. That glass bowl was the final thing, now I should be good for lots of years of service with this great tractor!
I know I have gotten years of good service out of mine. Mine was rebuilt in the late 80's or early 90's and is still doing great. I could use some red paint and decals on mine... Do you have any videos of yours on here?

My uncle worked at Massey Ferguson.
O-rings scare me since the space shuttle disaster caused by a faulty O-ring.
I did that fuel distributor "rebuild" on my dad's MF 135 last Summer. His wouldn't even crank until I did that.
