I remember working on this Thames Ident along with Mick Mannveille 16:44 - We had to make the ident sit within the new ITV triangle to become part of a country wide overall ITV identity. It was originally moulded in clay. The print version artwork was made using the first Quantel Paintbox for print.
Wow, that's interesting. I thought all the ITV generic regional variations in 1989 were producted centrally, hence the gaffes made with Granada, Anglia etc. I notice that Thames had two versions for the 1989 look.
Some of the Thames ident tunes were just tryouts before they settled for the 'Who will buy my sweet lavender' tune. I always wonder what those hideous buildings between the towers of Tower Bridge were in the black and white days (before they sensibly got rid of them)?
I never quite got the original Central ident. It looked like a solar eclipse at first sight but then in the middle part, it looked like a ping pong ball splitting open pouring light out from the middle.
Great collection. Some real oddities and rarer stuff in here. Thank you for uploading. The only one that I know of that's missing is the TVS Ident before Coast to Coast that 'flipped over'.
Seriously those 1989 generic idents were really messed up sometimes, no wonder some of the regions told them to get stuffed or only used them for about 5 mins ha ha. Yes the late Kenny Everett used to mess with the Thames ident on his programmes including the breasts one.
I live in the US and remember the classic Thames ident and music playing after show(s) that I watched in 80's-90's but I can't recall what those shows would've been. Could it have been Mr. Bean? I don't know which shows they produced were shown in the US. Maybe it was something imported by PBS?
My local ones were Thames and LWT. The less said about Carlton, the better! It's funny how I can name plenty of LWT and Thames produced programmes but can't think of a single one for Carlton. Says it all
You had to live there to understand but Westward/TSW by far the best 'local-regional' ITV station. TSW had the best ID EVER! replaced by the absolutely dreadful Westcountry (Cornwall is not and never will be West Country - that ends at the River Tamar) and was known as WetCountry as most of the ID's were water based. 14 out of 20 ID's shown here featured water. They had no in vision continuity and we all lost many many friends in our homes.

I never quite got the original Central ident. It looked like a solar eclipse at first sight but then in the middle part, it looked like a ping pong ball splitting open pouring light out from the middle.

18:56 So, is that London Weekend Television? Because I’m a little confused...
Yes. It was used between 1968 and 1969.
Okay, that's good. Because you forgot to fix that text box mistake. The info of LWT just appeared and then dissapeared within a millisecond...
9:53 sounds..............oof
