@@nikmagic8350Fr, im taking a big break from this game for Space Marine 2 so hyped to be a man covered in armor as thick as tank plating who screams FOR THE EMPEROR at the top of his 3 lungs😂💀
@@Promethean7771 What you don't think space Marine will suffer the same fate??? Have you not played majority of the games that have been released these recent years? Every game becomes repetitive, boring an unbalanced.
The existence of war bonds ensures that this game will never reach its true potential. They'll never allow the jump pack to have multiple charges or give us recon vehicles because those would make farming super credits too easy. Hell, they already reduced the spawn rate of super credits because people were getting them way too easily and not buying the microtransactions.

If the flamethrower was realistic it would destroy everything... would cook the bugs no matter the armor, the napalm would flow into the tank and destroy it, they have no idea wtf are they doing. They made a fun game by mistake, they are patching it to be as intended.
@@Claysthetics Well, 500kg is very inconsistent, plus its barely have larger explosive radius than a fckin grenade... its a 500kg bomb, a real one's explosion alone can kill in 30-50 meter radius, its shrapnel can go as far as 100+ meters
@@Claysthetics This timeline? Seriously, there is a REASON the usage of real flamethrowers in combat is now a WARCRIME. It's not just fire, it's a flaming hot liquid that can literally melt people in seconds, and becoming combat ineffective even before the liquid even touches them (evaporating the water in their eyes).
Im so happy to finally see ppl say what ive been saying since railgun gate. OhDough the goat said it best: "The game that blew up is not the game they wanted to make" Can we all agree that the whole balance team needs to get fired yesterday now ?
Arrowhead learned nothing at all from their Magika days. They did the same exact thing to both Magika 1&2. The funny part was there were modders for the game that reverted all of their "balacing" and even fixed most of the bugs the community was having issues with. What did AH do instead. They broke their games intentionally then yanked the plug on support. If you still play Magika its pretty much being kept alive by a dedicated mod team. People were asking why the team put in a anticheat. It was never to catch cheaters.... it was to prevent Modders from fixing their game and making it fun while AH was busy "balancing" it.
They never had the plot. They blindly stumbled on to a winning formula and that gave them the false confidence that they had all the answers. This is why the more they tinker with the game the worse it gets, they actually do not fundamentally understand why it was popular in the first place.
@@PRC533 all they had to do was fix bugs and follow the formula of the first game. FOR DEMOCRACY! keep it fun and simple, don't nerf crap. Even when railgun was meta I hardly used it cause I liked trying all the other things and had fun with all of them. First game had a better progression system in my opinion. Each gun, stratagem and vehicle could be buffed by spending ur hard earned creds and medals(like each thing had its own unique set of upgrades)
That feeling you get when you see multiple tanks that creep up behind you like they are playing Assassins Creed. But you didnt know because they make practically NO noise what so ever. Also i have to say. An analogy that has come to mind recently regarding this game. Is that ive started to feel like its no longer PvE where its us vs Bots and Bugs, and more like Player v Devman with all of the decisions theyve mads so far (like Player vs DM for DnD). And in my opinion, this is a cardinal sin.
I've lost track of the amount of times I'm just in a big empty field with no enemies in sight just looking for POI's..... and I turn around and there's a tank just sitting there 30m behind me that wasn't there a moment ago.
with all due respect a DM in DnD cannot just nerf your characters abilites on a whim, they follow a guideline. they cant just say ok i dont like bows doing +5 damage at the start, every bow does +.05 damage from here on out!
Also you get punished for crouching. Enemies just instakill headshot you as the way they are programmed when firing is based off a soldier standing. Only a low % of shot go for the head. Higher % go for the body. But this results in you getting instakilled so regularly while crouching to control recoil which disincentivizes you to use high recoil weapons. Why was headshot damage added in a PVE game again?
Even worse with bots, I had a round where a Scout Strider suddenly shot two shots from afar, and they both hit me in the back of the head and killed me. Then it happened two more times in the same round, once in the front of the head and once more while I was mid-dive. The laser the Striders shoot (also used by some turrets and Hulks) just suddenly became insanely accurate and damaging for no reason
@@thahirshibu5042 yeah thats true, though the bots aim good ngl, its a hell fighting them. Rather fight a hulk close range than fighting 10 odd mg raiders close range
Oh man this comment just took me back two decades to this argument in Counter Strike. "crouching makes your player model disproportionately a headshot box from the enemy POV" I find that crouching has the least utility in general. Prone is almost always the best choice, unless you're trying to peek over a low wall. So if you're just like, crouching in the middle of nowhere, the stance isn't doing its best work and might even be hamstringing you. Don't crouch as a rote part of combat engagements. Crouch when the situation calls for it, and put yourself in those situations by plan-- not by serendipity.
I really feel like this game could've changed the gaming industry as a whole. If it had stuck to the correct path, and actually listened to its community, its player base not only would've grown, but it would've made Helldivers 2 an active competitor for big triple A games like COD, Fortnite etc. This would then also make the big gaming companies do what their community wants more often, because there would be a major shift in players. Helldivers 2 could've won game of the year.
Pre nerf patch it was awesome with everyone only talking about roleplaying as an overly democratic soldier. After the first nerf it started to shift to warranted complaining and whining. Not only did they negatively affect the gameplay via all their nerfs, they completely killed the fun aspect of their community that was appealing to so manu people
@@tunderstorm2769 I mean, in War Thunder, these things are "weakpoints" so to speak, take the Caliope, which has a big salvo on top of the turret that you can one shot, or the LOSAT, which is literally just the Barrager tank.
You cannot convince me that the Eruptor was nerfed because ricochet killing people, since 1: that’s what they “fixed” the ricochet to do, and 2: the devs (ceo?) has flat out said they though players dying in odd ways was funny. They nerfed it because if you could, with crack aim, one shot a charger. They nerfed the gun, instead of armoring the spot that was being exploited. It was lazy balancing like most of the game has been. I predict the supply back pack is the next to catch a nerf because I see a lot of people using it to counter the ammo nerfs.
Oh gosh if they nerf the supply pack that would kill my desire to play anymore. I have a hard time taking the ac now cause I'm addicted to the storms and grenades.
@@VilhelmHortz i love the supply pack because i like using the mg, stahlwart, or grenade launcher with it. Yeah that would probably put the nail in the coffin for me as well even tho I like to mess with other stuff.
Honestly though stuff like 1 shotting a charger with precise aim should just stay. I dont understand why thats even a problem if you cant fix the issue without nerfing the gun itself and everything else in the process (which is what would happen if you armor the spot that was killing it). If you're skilled enough to 1-shot a charger with a gun like the Eruptor, you deserve the kill even if it is unintended. Its a PVE game, not to mention that AH and people who say "it shouldnt be a thing" act like there is a very limited amount of chargers that can spawn. Are we playing different difficulties or have people just forgotten that there are typically 2-3+ chargers spawning at any given time? Theres arguably more chargers than chaff, its not like killing 1 charger with the eruptor is going to cut off the supply line of chargers, theres still more. Its ridiculous thinking that way. Especially with how bullshit chargers were and still are at the time of the Eruptors release, they deserve to occasionally be served a bullshit pill in return by the Helldivers.
The amount of things in this game that got gutted because they could kill Chargers is astonishing. At this point I'd rather they get rid of Chargers so I don't need to see more nerfs.
I left this game months ago simply bc weak weapons aren't the core issue with HD2. The core issue is that devs seem to not know how to make a fun and fair horde shooter. One prime example is lack of system that gives you a breathing room after a big fight. If you alert enemy and don't disengage by running away for 5 minutes they will be coming for you forever. Constant patrol spawns that lock onto you is another example. There are more of these issues that dont really touch weapons but well, no one if gonna read it so.
Weak weapons alone arent the core issue of L-Divers 2, thats correct; however it is a massive part of the core issue. The core issue being labeled "Arrowhead" and "Balance".
Not sure if you played Helldivers 1 but If you think the waves of enemies are bad in this one you haven't seen nothing until you fight helldive cyborgs on a snow planet. Helldivers was NEVER meant to be fair. The core idea of the game is thowing countless soldiers into the wood chipper because they have so many of them. And i will preach this until the end of time. THIS IS NOT A CAUSAL CO OP SHOOTER. You need Tactics, coordination, knowledge of the enemy, the devs intend you to work as a team to have fun so i tried that and guess what. I HAD WAY MORE FUN THEN I EVER DID. This game is a niche and was made to appeal to the core audience, not everyone. So tldr if anyone is thinking this game was meant to be fair it wasn't
@@Ally5141 i mean i still like the game. I enjoy the challenge. I don't really consider it a Needless Slog like you said. But yeah i can also agree that Making the Weapons stronger and the enemies more numerous would make the game fun but in a different way. So what the hell were they talking about in that teaser trailer? "Unexpected suprises"? What, the robot head that gives you like 6 samples? I'm sure the players on SUPER HELLDIVE LV 10 really need samples.
This is even more sad when you also realized that after this horrendous mistreatment, some Helldivers 2 players are migrating towards other games now, the Deep Rock Galactic community definitely noticed it when they started to see their numbers suddenly increasing, the subreddit moderators of DRG made sure that those people won't vent or spread their frustration in their sub cause nobody wants that in DRG.
I started to notice a trend toward nerfing from the last "big patch". So I've just gone back to DRG, I had hope that this new Escalation Freedom update would fix the many issues with the game. Alas it seems it didn't. :(
@@RobotCrafter1 We're truly in a really confusing era this year, first the return of tf2 after the bot crisis, the sudden revival of the fallout franchise and now the helldivers 2 fumbling the bag...

In the mean time we plan on adding more recoil to every weapon and increasing the cool down of everything that's useful, so please enjoy. Sincerely, The Bots
they could have VERY easily fixed the 1 damage bug day 1 by just... shadow buffing everything by 1 damage. It doesn't even need to show on the in-game stats. Monster hunter wilds lookin' even better than ever.
I'm hesitant to buy it day one after Dragon's Dogma 2 was such a train wreck on launch, but the gameplay looks as good as it always has. Also, the sound design on the new charge blade is just *chef's kiss.*
You cannot convince me that this current dev team were the guys who made the game in the first place. They are constantly changing the game in a way that is entirely different from what earlier versions of the game looked like. Their nuking of the game is so blatent and nonsensical that theres no way any sane group of people would do this to a game that they actually made themselves with their own sweat and blood.
I think it could be, but they fundamentally do not understand what made the release version of the game good. They are under the impression that their vision of the game is what everyone wanted, but that was not what they made. So now that they are doing the changes to make the game they want people are seeing that direction and don't like it. Instead of pivoting and understanding that this is where the saying "in the matter of taste, the customer is always right" applies, they instead just decide to push ahead with what they want.
Game that sold milions of copies made the devs enough money for their kids and grandkids to live a comfortable life, they all went on 3-4-6 months vacation, they dont give a fck if the game bombs now..
I've said it before, but the primary weapons are supposed to be just that, your PRIMARY weapon. We can get lost in the discussion about using stratagems and support weapons, but when the weapon I always spawn with isn't good enough to clear out the chaff to even get back to my lost support weapon and gear and that stuff is still on a 5 minute cooldown then why should I use it? Why shouldn't I use a weapon that's actually get the job done, no matter how bad it actually is but it's better than the others? I love playing with "stupid" builds but when I play with others, I do my best to be the best that I can be to not drag them down. Which means picking what I feel is the best which tends to be what a lot of other people feel is the best because compared to the rest it is.
I know exactly how you feel. Primary weapons are now just used when you need to reload or are out of ammo. It's the reason I stopped playing automatons. I loose my autocannon, and am completely defenceless against a single gunship. And now with impalers added to the mix, high level bug missions are also no longer enjoyable.
I used to think AH was just incompetent and outta touch with basic reality but knowing they are removing bugs from the bug list that they aren't fixing just makes me think that nothing short of them laying off their balence and community team to rebuild it from the ground up will save this company.
Johan and Shamwow better realize sooner than later that the "nerf team" needs to have an intervention and all final say they have should be removed till Piles reviews it, they have utterly gutted the player base and destroyed the reputation the game had.

A British military weapons expert praised the pre-patch flamethrower for its realism and accurate representation (you can find that video here on YT). Why they changed it and claimed it was "for realism" was a complete mystery.

Helldivers is running into the same situation as Valheim did a couple years ago. Valheim was a massive runaway hit and pulled in a much broader audience then expected. When the devs made changes to being the game closer to their initial vision of a tough survival game, it upset a lot of people who had fallen in love with the chill Viking exploration experience. Irongate had to reconcile their plans with the desires of an audience who wanted a game that they had not really set out to create. I imagine Arrowhead is going through a similar process now: they never made a power fantasy game, they didn't plan to make a power fantasy game, but a significant chunk of their unexpectedly huge player base now wants that instead of the desperate survive-against-the-odds game they were going to make. We'll see how it all shakes out.
The weird thing is that the first game was able to blend the power fantasy of all this technology in your hands, while maintaining that feeling of just being a grunt on the ground. A grunt who can easily get killed for making a mistake or two. They seem to want that in this game, but I am convinced they do not understand the first game. The team is likely pretty different nowadays compared to the original, so I imagine very few of the veteran AH devs actually remain at this point. Might as well be a different studio
It would have been fine if they didnt nerf things like they did and helldive 9-10 would have still been a challenge. You just would just have people having more fun with different builds and combinations of items and stratagems and what not. Nothing more and nothing less.
@@nicholasgulla4666 I think a fundamental change that was really bad for this is implementing mission timers and limited respawns. It should be a wipe if all 4 people died like in the first game, or unlimited respawns as long as *someone* gets the reinforcement off. I think that was SUCH a better system. And for solo players you could easily give them one free respawn too, it doesn't have to be one or the other, full stop.
@@MysticLuka yeah personally I much preferred that system, but I can see why they changed it. I think it’s a relatively minor issue compared to a lot of the balance/vision of the game
@7:19 "if you have to explain your patch, it's not a good patch." Naw that’s stupid. I wish every developer that patched their game (that we bought) would tell us what was changed and why.
Sucks too, because sm2 looks like you can make a million mistakes and be fine. Only 3 player co op because "space marines are pretty much indestructible. " meaning it would be too easy with 4 man. I have a lot of fun on helldivers still. There are load outs that work great on 9 on both sides that I enjoy using. It ain't pretty, but it works.
i think the SM2 will be the last strike to helldivers 2 unfortunately, the game i thought that will be game of the year is now only a shadow of its glory in release day and i dont think it will get back up from grave after SM2
@@lukemehalick370 If people want a power fantasy, they have somewhere to go now. But if they want that Helldivers itch, it hasn't gone anywhere truly. People are passionate against nerfs, desiring buffs, they simply love this game. Space Marine 2 will not be able to scratch that same itch, especially by lowering the typical 4-player cooperative count to 3, and providing an absolute power fantasy that it would probably get dull over time. If there is no true obstacle to overcome, what is the point? They don't attempt balance for difficulty, they attempt what players would describe as "fun," but an unsolved experience is something people continually play. It's like that with competitive games, PvP ones at that matter. So when a PvE one (HD2) attempts it, it feels foreign. I will say that despite these PvP games purposefully shaking up the meta constantly, they also receive a lot of vitriol. All while retaining a decent player-count. I find that adjustment interesting, but perhaps Arrowhead can do those changes on an enemy basis, rather than adjusting guns. I like the idea of being a more vulnerable soldier, one that's expendable, one that's destructive to itself, as to the enemy. Maybe they can fulfill that.
@@Yangjo Thats where one month later, Starship Troopers: Extermination comes in. The same stuff as Helldivers (in terms of feeling, hells even better in some aspects) and, you're not locked to 3 players, not even 4 players. No, its 16 player coop. Space marine followed by SST:E is going to be the one-two deathpunch the game actually deserves at this point. Lets just put the damn thing out of its misery - playercount has been a nosedive into oblivion since even before Sony's big oopsie, and hasnt broken 100k for a while now. Even the latest update didnt manage to break it, only sending it from 30k up to 60k ish if i remember it right. The devs are gravely underestimating 40k and SST as direct competitors. They think they still have a golden goose, that nothing can beat them, hell they even say the Chaosdivers are just "some silly roleplay" when its in fact very angry customers who paid for a product that is now being made worse and worse every other week. Add to that the fact that they both love to lie to the playerbase, as well as fan the flames of hatred for their own amusement.. and yeah, arrowhead's finished. Let it burn.
A friend and i play alot of pve games together (payday, darktide, vermintide, gtfo etc) we have always agreeded together that in pve games if something is broke its much less worrying than in a pvp game: bugs/robots do not care how hard you kill them. Unless a stratagy is boring: dont nerf it.
yknow what else is realistic, Arrowhead? Power Creep. Literally all of Earth's Wars, Arms races, and conflicts are just 1 ginormous power creep. But you're afraid to acknowledge that because in order to actually make your Galactic War "Mil-Sim and Realistic" You'd have to A) Give us weapons that, in real life, would absolutely DECIMATE the enemy. B) Have to figure out new enemies that are challenging enough to nearly counter the weapons C) Release Warbonds with powerful, and fun equipment to counter the opposing threat. D) Rinse, and Repeat. In other words, they'd need to actually... Try. But you can't even start off with Step A, because once we're given weapons ACTUALLY worth a damn, we'll be exposed even MORE just how terrible their Health/Damage systems actually work, by revealing that the difficulty was NEVER in how the enemies ACT, but just if they can manage to get the drop on you first and can ragdoll you enough to not even have a fighting chance.
I think your missing the point, you want all or most weapons to feel good to play so you are able to play to whatever style of gameplay you want to do and not feel forced to bring a certain load out because its meta or just particularily strong in a lot of situations. When I was playing the weapons that were popular felt mid to good doing the highest difficulty missions its not as though they were insanely strong they just performed more efficiently than the rest.
This sums it up pretty well tbh. And hells, its what we PAY THEM FOR. But that requires effort - and thats something they just absolutely wont do. Even when it comes down to releasing "new" content, its just stuff being flipped to "active" from content already packed in the game. But hey, if they want realism its like you said: Powercreep, but on both sides of hte conflict. They'd have to manage 3 (or 4) different factions, each developing weapons (or bioforms, for the terminids) to counter their enemies. And then their enemies first have some trouble to fight them, until they too develop means to counter those new weapons. And on, and on, and on. Thats how we went from sticks to spears to guns to ICBMs. Thats realism. But that also requires effort, creative thinking and proper management. AH has none of those things.
Great post man. I actually don't think they balance around 5 - it just feels that way. I believe they balance around solo helldive. The devs simply think that they failed if enough people can solo the highest difficulty. And since they have no idea what it's like to play the highest difficulty, they throw shit at the wall with nerfs from their spreadsheet.
It's crazy too, because anyone soloing anything above 8 is just running the majority of the time. They are able to do it by avoiding fights. Them nerfing weapons doesn't do anything to make running away any more difficult.
They don't balance around any difficulty. They just take a spreadsheet tracking player usage of weapons and strategems, and nerf whichever one is at the top that month. (Making more than 1 number change every 4 weeks is too hard)
They balance around solo helldive but grade weapons based on difficulty 3-5. Hence why the nerf everything (because solo helldive), but then also proceed to say "(x) weapon is good!" because they grade it based on how it does in difficulty 3-5 (as well as the "get good"/"Its ackchually not bad" people who claim to do helldive with (x) just fine but cant actually play past difficulty 4) when they try to advertise it. Hate to burst the bubble for everyone but the guns that "do good" at level 3~ still suck and feel like shit to use even there, because those enemies still exist at higher levels. Killing warriors still feels like shit with the same gun at lvl 10 as it does at lvl 3 and thats because fundamentally every gun feels like shit right now against every enemy and the level you play at doesnt change that because all the levels do is limit what spawns. Scavengers taking 2-3 shots to the head from an AR still feels like shit even if you do it at level 1 where all there is, is scavengers; its actually worse there because the dosage of "wow that sucks" is more concentrated.
Remember, Deep Rock Galactic is always hiring, and unlike the Helldivers, we actually get to use powerful weapons against our enemies. Rock and Stone, the pretty sound of teamwork.
@Artificial-intelligent-gamer not so much how so...its more of where to even start. Did you listen to the video at all? The game damage values were all over the place. The rockets alone would bounce off charger and hulk bodies. The ragdolling to death (that's still in the game)...the list is long. Then you have graphical performance issues and general performance issues on PC caused by their "anti-cheat" that only exists to prevent modders from reverting their balance patches.
@@Artificial-intelligent-gamer Riddled with bugs that slowly got fixed, performance issues that exist to this day, the social tab (in a multiplayer game) that took months to actually work and still has issues, some jank here and there specially with physics. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if at some point it gets revealed that Arrowhead has some cartoonish villains in their ranks intentionally sabotaging the game
I mean, there’s one, Alex Kravchenko. He was the lead game designer for Hello Neighbor 2, who made some baffling bad choices for that game, and he’s part of ArrowHead’s team for balancing… (idk if what he’s doing is intentional sabotage or not).
That's what pisses me off the most over what they said, two months of waiting for these meetings and talks is not something this game can afford. Next month is going to take so many players away, and I hate to say it, but rightfully so. I might even be one of them, as huge a fan as I am of WH40k
@@ZephyrusAsmodeus The devs honestly deserve it at this point, for the last 6 months people have been complaining all they do is nerf shit and the devs don't even play their own game, the devs just give the players the south park cable company "we're sorry" and continue to do the opposite of what the players want.
@ZephyrusAsmodeus I was a huge helldivers fan, but I'm just over it now and waiting of WH40 to fill the void, and I'm not a WH40 fan (though I guess I'll be becoming one)
Impalers shouldn’t be nearly invincible. No reason I shouldn’t be able to find this thing, and then unload into its face and not kill it. Sad part os that those little goblins that cry at you with "skill issue" when you try to give good criticism are the ones that will leave when they can no longer find a match
I had two groups of friends that had a blast with the game. Both groups were working up the difficulties, having fun win or lose. One group would sometimes take at stab at difficulty seven when they needed super samples but was more happy at five and six. The other group would dive on anything, we weren't the best plays one on player had a bad habit of being the main cause of friendly fire, but we would have fun all the same. Patch after patch though, less of them wanted to play. Ended up with only three other people still playing but those two main groups I'd dive with stopped having fun. Some had a favorite weapon that got nerfed, all of them were getting tired of the ragdolling and getting one shot. Only a couple of them would have fun on the higher difficulties, but none of them were having fun anymore, not even on the lower difficulties. It was more of a slog than a challenge. IF Arrowhead gets around to actually making the game fun again I'll be happy, I miss diving with those guys and it would be nice to be able to tell them that the game is actually fixed. I don't have very high hopes, maybe a mole hill high, but it would still be nice.
People have said since the first few weeks that Alexus, aka Mr. “Bringer of balance,” would nerf this game into the ground, like hello neighbor 2. Without being able to see behind the scenes there is no way to know definitively, but from the outside it sure does look like those predictions were accurate.
Personally I'm not a big fan of difficulties that just apply percentages to enemy stats. Makes everything too spongy potentially. Plus it rarely prompts you to change tactics.
Can we also remind ourselves of how people used to say in the beginning that "this game doesn't have HP bars cuz you can see the enemy progressively being damaged." At first I saw that and said "wow that's some great attention to detail and adds a bit of realism." big sigh I know right, but after actually have been playing the game myself i've noticed that some enemies especially the bigger ones like impaler, when I went to go test some weapons myself against the impaler, the squishy bit never seemed to get "progressively more destroyed or damaged." So how would I know at a given glance that it's at 1 HP or close to death? Having these breakpoints in the current state of the game, having enemies at 1 HP pretty much, if I could see that it was close to death, I wouldn't need to use another rocket or something but instead hit it with a quick follow up with something lighter instead of wasting another big chunk of damage. I just feel like they could telegraph enemy health pool damage more effectively, as of right now it only shows damage when the armor has been taken off of something. Charger butts go from nothing to pop all of a sudden, impaler goes from chilling in the ground to dead all of a sudden...show it taking damage overtime to see how much more it will take to kill or break. have the impaler's squishy part have like 4 different stages depending on HP left, have it deteriorate as it takes damage. The smaller guys die fast in comparison that this doesn't matter too much but i'd like to really see it on heavier enemies.
I was playing EDF 4.1 last night, bought it because I was infuriated by a daily gaming session ended by a game breaking glitch. As I'm playing it, I am having spikes of anxiety whenever I go near to the edge of a building. This is an unhealthy reaction my brain has picked up from playing a buggy, broken mess like Helldivers, and it was realising that the feeling was coming from getting worried every single building would snag on me and I'd have to kill myself to break free..... that made me also realise how unhealthy and bad that game is. That's like an abused puppy screaming and howling whenever you put your hand near them, because their immediate reaction is that you're going to hurt them. The walls in this Japanese made game, by people who actually know wtf they're doing, are like it's okay little one. We won't hurt you like Helldivers did. Playing Helldivers for any length of time is akin to abuse. Literally same mental pathways. Every single day on RUclips there are new videos, and they're mostly all negative. Criticising the crap devs. Witch hunting Alexus Kravchenko (set to ruin another game :D). Offering up spreadsheets of data for the dev's perusal to improve the game. To get the game back on track. It's fuckin embarrassing. We're all in an abusive relationship with this game.
"You just want to derail the game!" Bruh, the game hit 6k concurrent players the other day. From almost half a million at peak and 100k not 3 months ago. It could _use_ some derailing because no one wants to play whatever game they seemingly want to get to. A game for everyone is a game for no one. But also, go too hard in the opposite direction and you'll just make a game for no one outright.
Your good take about the new fire pump action made me realize something as well, they basically nerfed the old fire shotgun into the ground to force people to buy the new fire shotgun
Hot Take: Instead of the devs putting genuine work into the flam-66 torcher and the p-72 crisper to make them different/actually balanced against the power of the flam-40 stratagem they took the smooth brain, low cost, low effort approach and completely changed flame effects to make those weapons all practically the same. Damage values change marginally based on primary, secondary, support values but little to no practical difference. They knew the flam-40 could've been left alone easily--armor piercing "bug" or not but some a$$hole decided a blanket fix was a better idea. Two GTA modders with half a red bull to share could've made a better change in 2-3 hours of work. It's blatant negligence and one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen prior to a major content release. You're totally right Clay. They don't care anymore--everyone's voice is heard, feedback is overwhelmingly obvious, they know what it takes to make the game fun but they don't care. I got my hours in for $40. Have a few friends that haven't played much--might hop in every now and then to help them out but I'm moving on. Went from GOTY to an absolute mess.
Awesome video, thank you. I haven't played helldivers in months and I would love to come back but every time I look into it something else is broken. I just want to have fun.
It's also surprising that we all fell in love with the opening cinematic from the game, but we've never gotten a follow up to that. No more videos of that guy calling on Helldivers to do their part. Feeding into the role play. Even the mission briefs are non narrated, like what gives?
14:50 finally someone said it! It irks me that people just switched their reviews from negattive to positive after the PSN fiasco was no longer required but they didn't care that people in other countries without PSN can no longer buy the game back if they refunded it already.
i always wanted them to make it so heavy armor made you resist rag dolling and immune to flinching when hit by enemies, very disappointed with how underwhelming the current state of it is
Clay you bring a good and level approach to discussing the problems in a game like this with a solid "why" behind it and the right pinch of time played and game knowledge to make it justified. Do wish the devs would take more time to listen to and take to heart your suggestions here and elsewhere. If it makes you feel any better, I sorta tried to do the same thing for Planetside 2 and Helldivers 1 back in the day and it didn't go well either 😅
26:11 Then when everyone took shields and anti-explosive armor they nerfed the shields. They never asked themselves WHY shields became bot meta... it's because the bots were crawling with cross map one shot rockets and tank cannons and the shield was the only thing that gave you a fair shot at surviving. Even post nerf many still used the way less effective shield because nothing else existed to deal with that problem. That was the patch where i officially shifted from heavy armor and fighting constantly to light stealth armor so i could pick engagements. Basically, at that point it stopped being a horde shooter and became a stealth game.
Me and my buddy played this game with just us and it really feels like the most fun we ever had was when we were like level 15, with mid tier stratagems on level 4-5, it was fun when we had shit gear and we hit a charger, we’d have a mini boss fight if we weren’t careful doing objectives and it made us think more about our encounters, anymore it just feels like we use the orbital laser and just pray the enemies don’t spawn 50 armored tanks and throw us around like they’re playing catch with us
THANK YOU! that's what I've been saying about the eruptor, the shrapnel only really became a problem because they decided to introduce ricochet, instead of just rolling back the ricochet or scale it back they decided to remove the shrapnel which was there before ricochet, smh these guys just go out of their way to remove the fun from the game
The tentacles need to be destroyable like sliced off the impaler entirely with enough firepower. The fact you can’t completely destroy the tentacles makes fighting them more annoying.
The Quick Charge bug on the Arc Thrower made the weapon really fun and gave you a risk vs reward of staying still and unloading bolts or running away and having to do the initial charge again. The Purifier has that bug currently and it makes the weapon really fun. I hope AH won't remove it from the Purifier like with the Arc Thrower and luckily no one uses the thing so it isn't even on their radar, but I'd probably stop playing if they did after +500Hrs because that would just solidify to me that AH does not understand the concept of fun and that they would rather you be punished for trusting them.
The ibreaker having the same drum mag as the breaker soray and pray instead of normal breaker should have been a red flag warning us that the devs were confused about how balance worked. Basic game design doctrine is baseline gun and varients sich as more ammo in one, fire damage in another…
First they came for the Railgun and I said nothing. Then they came for the Eruptor and I still said nothing. Then they came for my gun but nobody was left to say anything. NEVER FORGET THE ERUPTOR!!
It's remarkable that the best time for balance in the game, was when the first game started, and there was no balancing at all. Things needed to be fixed, like fire or gas not working if you weren't server host, but it was otherwise fine from Day One.
@@TristanPye-j9mThey willingly buffed it a few times. Honestly, I think it might be up there with the AC-8 Autocannon, in that it is a good example of a well-balanced weapon: it packs a punch and has a good rate of fire, but requires you to wear a backpack slot and have a friend reload your weapon or make you kneel to reload.
Why would anyone want to talk about weapons that should just be standard, its just "good". We're more concerned with everything else being literal garbage.
I'm certainly not as good of a player as you are, but in the beginning I constantly kept on wanting to push the difficulty up and challenge myself more. The more updates this game has got, the less I've wanted to do that because of how often deaths feel like BS. I never lose my cool if I fail and play poorly, but inconsistencies and bs frustrations make me frustrated immediately. Like the game demanding me to dodge, then ragdolling me when I land on a little rock. Or constantly having movement reduced by slowdowns, either bushes, puddles, acid, hunter swipes, exploding flora, poor visibility, not being able to swim or a completely random hole on the ground - not to mention the ragdoll fests of today where tentacle-guy plays us like a drum with no cooldown to it's swipes and not being able to get up before it slaps again. I also dislike the devs saying that primaries being reliable are a "crutch" or would make things too easy, as that kind of a mechanic being used to make a game challenging is just cheap. Sure, you can inconvenience me to no end by reducing my operational time with all I mentioned above plus excessive reloads, bulletsponge enemies when I feel I'm shooting a peashooter and sure, by sheer resilience you can whittle things down and manage an operation - but still have a headache and be annoyed. Which has been my most common experience: That I'm just annoyed even if we completed the mission. (Me and my friend two man team diff 7 most often, sometimes going higher, but not being comfortable with helldive or super helldive tbh. It just feels like we don't have enough ammo for all of it lol, so my hats off to you for completing those solo o7) So, yeah, I agree with all the frustrating things you mention, appreciate you've tried your best to detail what works and what doesn't to a player and glad that despite you finding the hardest things easy, you aren't one of the elitists saying "git gud" while bolstering the idea that the cheesy, frustrating and cheap mechanics are what should make the game harder.
“If they just reverted” Ive been screaming that since day one but “its too hard for them” because they had to break something else to then break what we had. Now you cant revert it, purely because you dont want to? okay AH. thanks.
The only thing i disliked about hunters was that brief period of time that they caused like a 5 second stun combined with the aimbot jumps that would chase you when you dodged. Like i remember when they cranked hunter aimbot up so high that i tried to jetpack off a hill over hunters and they jumped vertically at least 20 ft to kill me. THAT wasn't fun to play with. Hunters were just fine the way they were at launch.
over 300 hours and I have a question. Why is it sometimes, heavy units will take over lethal damage and just get faster and more aggro until either straight disappearing before or after they kill you? It would happen every now and then but I've seen it more lately. (not referring to broken hitboxes and taking no damage, enemies like bile or chargers are losing multiple armor spots until just vanishing..
Saw this comment on another video about the situation, they said “I’m starting to think the game was accidentally good”. Honestly, I’m starting to agree
God seeing the prenerf eruptor footage genuinely made me sad. Most fun I've ever had on this game and then it was gone. Yeah having 12 mags was insane it needed that ammo nerf but the damage was FINE. It hit fantastic breakpoints and it gave the stalwart a clear usecase, and as slow as it was missing a single shot felt punishing.
This is the problem, let's say 12 mags is a little OP. Who cares, The point should be is my player base enjoying the weapon, why are they enjoying, how can I amplify that enjoyment even more Instead of constant "balance" fixes that only serve to increase frustration. They need to learn how to leave well enough alone and add content to existing mechanics, increasing player strength (and I can't stress this enough, even if it's on the OP side) Nerfs should not be the focus of a live service Co-op hoard shooter Instead, the focus should solely focus on fun, content generation, positive community engagement in-game events(and as any business making money exploiting these concepts, hopefully in a tactful way) That being said, the progression system could use an overhaul to make it more meaningful and less grindy (i.e., frustrating once again)
No matter what this game was bound to have drop off and was never to going to maintain it's popularity, but I'd argue that a power creep (seeing steady buffs to players and weapons instead of nerfs) would have this game in a much better situation than the barrage of nerfs bugs we were so generously fed
@adamm1117 That's what I'm saying, they shouldn't be focusing on balancing "OP" weapons, but instead fun Who cares if the gun is a little OP as long as the player base is having fun and being engaged in a meaningful way
i got to use it for 2 days of "Wow a weapon that doesnt suck"-fun before it was gutted. Made me have the most defeated straight face feeling of "I expected this, but why?".
Devs dont realise the enemies strength was thier variety, not numbers or damage, having tools for every situation. When the eruptor came out it was bugged and would suck things in instead of a normal explosion, that got fixed and the gun worked as intended for maybe a week, before they gutted it. That was the most fun ive had in this game, and they just snatched it away

⚠️ Here they come...
@@everyonethinksyoureadeathm5773 Arrowhead didnt make Magika 2. Just btw.
The devs entirely lost the plot. Imagine making a whole game, and then spending the rest of it's lifetime trying to make all the players quit.
@@JorbyIsBad AH devs live it.
I mean they really only expected like a 30k player base max, they even admitted it when the servers were overloaded and had to raise the cap.
The true final enemy of helldivers was in fact the balance team...
with all due respect a DM in DnD cannot just nerf your characters abilites on a whim, they follow a guideline. they cant just say ok i dont like bows doing +5 damage at the start, every bow does +.05 damage from here on out!
The laser the Striders shoot (also used by some turrets and Hulks) just suddenly became insanely accurate and damaging for no reason
fendly fiah
@@thahirshibu5042 yeah thats true, though the bots aim good ngl, its a hell fighting them. Rather fight a hulk close range than fighting 10 odd mg raiders close range
Take cover?
Oh man this comment just took me back two decades to this argument in Counter Strike. "crouching makes your player model disproportionately a headshot box from the enemy POV"
I find that crouching has the least utility in general.
It could have also shown that more consumer friendly business models and price points were profitable. But... can't have nice things.
Pre nerf patch it was awesome with everyone only talking about roleplaying as an overly democratic soldier. After the first nerf it started to shift to warranted complaining and whining.

But you're afraid to acknowledge that because in order to actually make your Galactic War "Mil-Sim and Realistic" You'd have to
A) Give us weapons that, in real life, would absolutely DECIMATE the enemy.
B) Have to figure out new enemies that are challenging enough to nearly counter the weapons
C) Release Warbonds with powerful, and fun equipment to counter the opposing threat.
@@Eugromlol I'm in complete agreement with you so I don't know why you had to say I'm missing the point. But yes, 100%.

Ngl, ragdolling the enemies sound really fun.
Fun fact: if you sell things people don’t want in your shop, your shop will go bankrupt.

The game damage values were all over the place. The rockets alone would bounce off charger and hulk bodies. The ragdolling to death (that's still in the game)...the list is long. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if at some point it gets revealed that Arrowhead has some cartoonish villains in their ranks intentionally sabotaging the game

Exactly. I've never seen anyone get so aggressive when people call out the bad direction a given series is taking.
All i can say is "have you ever heard of EDF?" it got difficulty right. Higher damage and health same numbers
Personally I'm not a big fan of difficulties that just apply percentages to enemy stats. Makes everything too spongy potentially. Plus it rarely prompts you to change tactics.
Tentacle expert here. Can confirm it's not realistic at all!
Aaron knows whats up!
Is there lore explaining why the charger’s and impaler’s vital organs are in their leg?
The lore is they didn't make a charger 3 legged animation so they just die instead

Arrowhead is determined to bring back hd1 player count.

Then when everyone took shields and anti-explosive armor they nerfed the shields.
4:46 That's the highest level of cap i've heard since people saying stun on slugger needed to be nerfed.
It hasnt been solidified to you already??
At this point I'm more inclined to believe that it wasn't even a bug and they just called it a bug to get away with nerfing it.
@@fire_drake12.arc.24 I'm in an abusive relationship
Noone ever talks about the jar 5 dominator... its still to me the best primary since launch
Shh, don’t say that too loud, they might nerf it too.
"Think of the coolest thing possible, and just do it." . . . Wow that really just sums it up, huh? I wish they'd go with that.
This is how you shoot yourself on your foot and still not knowing why you did it.
It just feels like we don't have enough ammo for all of it lol, so my hats off to you for completing those solo o7)
So, yeah, I agree with all the frustrating things you mention, appreciate you've tried your best to detail what works and what doesn't to a player and glad that despite you finding the hardest things easy, you aren't one of the elitists saying "git gud" while bolstering the idea that the cheesy, frustrating and cheap mechanics are what should make the game harder.
"Here's our surprise. Every fun thing will be taken out, until everyone quits playing !!! Surprise!!"
Gotta read the fine print now lol
Yea it was a lot hopefully it wasn't to fast but needed receipts
Saw this comment on another video about the situation, they said “I’m starting to think the game was accidentally good”. Honestly, I’m starting to agree
God seeing the prenerf eruptor footage genuinely made me sad. Most fun I've ever had on this game and then it was gone.
Yeah having 12 mags was insane it needed that ammo nerf but the damage was FINE. It hit fantastic breakpoints and it gave the stalwart a clear usecase, and as slow as it was missing a single shot felt punishing.
This is the problem, let's say 12 mags is a little OP. Who cares, The point should be is my player base enjoying the weapon, why are they enjoying, how can I amplify that enjoyment even more
Instead of constant "balance" fixes that only serve to increase frustration. They need to learn how to leave well enough alone and add content to existing mechanics, increasing player strength (and I can't stress this enough, even if it's on the OP side)
Nerfs should not be the focus of a live service Co-op hoard shooter
Instead, the focus should solely focus on fun, content generation, positive community engagement in-game events(and as any business making money exploiting these concepts, hopefully in a tactful way)
That being said, the progression system could use an overhaul to make it more meaningful and less grindy (i.e., frustrating once again)
No matter what this game was bound to have drop off and was never to going to maintain it's popularity, but I'd argue that a power creep (seeing steady buffs to players and weapons instead of nerfs) would have this game in a much better situation than the barrage of nerfs bugs we were so generously fed
Why did it need the ammo Nerf tho? Let people have their fun
@adamm1117 That's what I'm saying, they shouldn't be focusing on balancing "OP" weapons, but instead fun
Who cares if the gun is a little OP as long as the player base is having fun and being engaged in a meaningful way
i got to use it for 2 days of "Wow a weapon that doesnt suck"-fun before it was gutted.
