The red gas tank was made for 1970. They changed the dsitrubtor in 1971 as well. This is fabulous condition. If it means anything it sounds like it might have a small air leak leaning out probably the #1, left cylinder. That was very common. I raced these for two seasons. Incredibly powerful motor, but had soft steel frames. Consider that they did not have reed valves or anything else, just conventional piston port design. Ran well on regular gas. Disk brakes came out in 1972.,
I had the same blue '71. Bought it as a used mechanical basket case in '76. I brought it back to life and rode it a lot then sold it for near the new price.
bought a brand new one in 1969,paid 1104.00 out the door,I waited 3 months, received a 1970 red, white model like yours.Use synthetic 2 cycle oil.I did a lot of fun stuff with it.I would love to restore one, maybe a slight warm over on the motor, chambers, pistons, port work.
yea, I don't know where he gets the notion it's a 72. the red and white ones were a mid year release in 70. commonly refereed to as 701/2. I owned on just like this. I too quickly found synthetic oil and also found you could cut the oil pump back without hurting then and it cut way down on the smoke. How do I know it won't hurt them? I took my 72 H-2 from Ohio through the southwest, around the 4 corners area, grand canyon, las vegas. LA up highway 1 to san francisco and back down to the mexican border, and the southern route back to ohio. also, running hard throttle you don't need the clutch for upshifts. hold some pressure up on the shifter, turn the throttle of and back on as quick as you can and it will shift.
Steppen Wolf, Born to be Wild and The Pusher. You've put a great video up, something a bit different, with an absolutely correct sound track. Great work that captures the time and essence of the Mach III, Widow maker. Thanks for posting.
Hey, well made video. Brought back memories. My first bike was the '69 250 Samurai. Great little bike. Then I graduated to a Laser blue '71 500. (It wasn't nearly as fast as your model, kawasaki had detuned the 500 by then). A year later got the '72 H2 750. Wow, that was a wheelie machine. Years later I had gotten a great used Peacock Gray bike like yours. Took the clogged up exhaust baffles out one day. I found out that 500 would wheelie like my 750 lol. I couldn't believe it. I almost flipped it.
+Bikerbob59 Thanks Bob. I had one of these years ago myself, although it wasn't as nice as the one here. I would have missed this vid if you hadn't commented on it!
The first bike I ever rode was my girlfriend's 125 Honda. Then I bought a '68 350 Honda when she bought a new '73 Honda 360. She took off on a month long trip and when she came back, I had a '71 H 1 that already had expansion chambers and K & N air cleaners. That bike was scary fast, especially since it was only the third bike I had ever ridden. Wish I had it back...
Bela máquina, tem estilo, restauro impecável, chama mais a atenção do que as motos de plástico de hoje.E a trilha sonora combinou muito bem com a apresentação.LAGUNA SC BRASIL 28-04-2017
Nice bike, stunning, good restauration ! One question, this H1 is the 1969/70 model , how it becomes from 1972 like i've read in the beginning of the video ?
Thanks for the answer ! Maybe because the bike was first registrated in 1972, who knows. Anyway, as if you maybe know had the in 1972 build H1´s a different gasoline tank, even the gasoline tank from 1971 bikes was different from the 1969/70.
So stinky and klunk compared to today. Right? But it was the best bike I ever owned and it brings back so many memories! Like the memories of not getting killed! Didn't they call the the Widow Maker?
Betcha it'd run damn close to any 500cc bike today, in a straight line drag race. My buddy had a 1970 with same red color, but the 1970 had black stripes, iirc. Anyway, these were so much quicker than any 500cc bike anyone had ever ridden before, it was almost unbelievable! I rode it at the strip once, against a 650cc Triumph Bonneville. Back then, any 3 cylinder 2 stroke jumped 1 class up, which is why I was racing a 650cc bike. I dumped the clutch, and the front end went straight up!!! Of course, the Triumph took off straight for the finish line. I let the front end down, and took off after him, at least 75-100ft ahead of me. At the traps, it was so close I didn't know who won. So as I slowed, I looked in the mirror to see that I had caught him!!! Probably won by a foot, or less!!! Man, that guy was PISSED!!!! He wanted my buddies bike to get torn down, claiming it couldn't be stock, and be that fast. But it was stock. And it was that fast. Actually, I think the 750 was the Widowmaker......
+theoriginalmungaman That engine has too many rattly sounds as well. It needs at least new rings & if that doesn't work - a rebore with oversize pistons & rings.
J'aurais pu faire encore mieux, mais malheureusement le port du casque est obligatoire dans l'état de la Provence et il faisait un peu froid pour mettre un short et des tongues.

Just watched it again... love the music too!
Nice, I had a 1973 500. Very nice bike. Fast! I remember beating my friend on his Honda 750. Good ole days.
A beautiful explosion of noise and energy wrappped in chrome and stunning paint 💪
Gorgeous bike....good choice for music. Havn't heard that for years,
Thank you
Global warming my ass.. this machine is a testament to genius of restoration and masterful craftsmanship.. top drawer stuff.. well done.
I bought it restored. I dont know who made it. But I'm very grateful.
I had a 1971 ,blue h-1 ,and my clutch would slip alot like in your vidio ,not enough friction plate surface,Barnett plates fixed it!
I had the same blue '71. Bought it as a used mechanical basket case in '76. I brought it back to life and rode it a lot then sold it for near the new price.

My headphones are now run in. I had the 73 H1D I restored in 79
Thanks for a great post.
Thank you
Potent engine, exceptionally beautiful motorcycle.
Kawasaki blew everyone away when they came out with this ,nothing like what they had been making . I think the styling was done by a US stylist
That is a 1970 because I had a 1971 Mach III, not the finest motorcycle i have ever owned but the most fun !!!
Thank you
Probably a 69~70 production model but not registered till later.
Had one of these as my first street bike loved it.
+Bikerbob59 Thanks Bob. I had one of these years ago myself, although it wasn't as nice as the one here. I would have missed this vid if you hadn't commented on it!
Minted bike and such a sweet sound coming out of those pipes!!
Absolument magnifique, bravo à toi pour cette sublime restauration.✌🏻👍
Great bike and video. Also nice combination of great song and Kawasaki music. Thanks.
A beautiful motorbike.

It was the year specified on the documention. Thanks for your comments

That's a 1972 i've found, looks a little different ruclips.net/video/1BRo21sI90U/видео.html
72 was orange with a front disc brake.
So stinky and klunk compared to today. Right? But it was the best bike I ever owned and it brings back so many memories! Like the memories of not getting killed! Didn't they call the the Widow Maker?

belle restauration, il me semble par contre que les pots sont un tantinet bruyants !! Bravo pour le travail et cette vidéo
Merci
The most dangerous bike I have ever ridden - I still own 2 of them.
Detonating like crazy!
superbe !!!
juste les écrous nylstop sur les brides de carbu qui détonnent un peu ...
The pusher man
Thank you
That bike looks like it wants to fly
Actually this music came out the same year the 500 came out.
strait out salubrious man .
Thank you
I hear the famous clutch slip!
+theoriginalmungaman That engine has too many rattly sounds as well.
It needs at least new rings & if that doesn't work - a rebore with oversize pistons & rings.
+Al Pal Unless its got the forged Weiscos. Lots of piston to wall clearance, and not the best choice. Could be a little detonation going on too.
it doesnt really matter
kava 500 not brake , in italy it was called " bara su 2 ruote " but it's a fantastic bike , best acceleration ever in 1970
Grazie
Very nice!
Thank you
Yep. I had a 73 500
2 stroke?..I know the 3 pipe kawy 500 did come in 2 stroke
they were magic with Cafe style ;low bars..
Thank you
Sounds like that middle spark plug is a little oiled up? And is that clutch slipping just a little?
Plug oiled ?. Clutch slip Yes. A common thing that.
let the good times roll
Use Yamalube or Honda GN2 , And put a clutch kit in it . No more trouble with either !
Che musica!
Not a perfect restoration. Restore means bring back to original. It didn't come with polished aluminum everywhere. But I like this better!
+theoriginalmungaman It's better than the original with all that polished metal.
+Al Pal I agree!
It could do with some fresh rings though - it sounded a bit rattly
but they usually did.
The carb clamps are chrome plated instead of zinced.
Eye candy, just begging to be rode!
I can name that tune ,
two strokes,,,
Name that tune.
Freedom!
exactly
God Damn!
Thank you
Engine a little fumbling, my ear?Sorry.
Wonderful bike but ridiculous and awfully dangerous rider's outfit ^^
J'aurais pu faire encore mieux, mais malheureusement le port du casque est obligatoire dans l'état de la Provence et il faisait un peu froid pour mettre un short et des tongues.
