The way I have organized my movie library is like this: Imprint label, Sci-Fi, Movies from 80' , classics, Family section (Disney etc) Romantic section, Anime, and some separate sections for Steve Martin and other actors that I like. Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Columbo etc section. also have separate James Bond and similar movies section. (I have around 700 -800 movies) Also have my favorite movies section. Have fun with organizing...:)

Very cool collection. My collection of Blu-ray’s is huge - well over 3000 titles. I just started to reorganize them - I place by year/decade as that’s how I think about movies. I prefer that over alphabetical as I can find them easily.

I legit laughed out loud at 4:35 “I’m sure all of y’all have unsubscribed by now.” One question: You prefer the empty space at the bottom of each unit and the individual shelves completely full? For the non-boutique releases I usually leave space at the end of each shelf for 2-4 titles so when I buy more titles I can drop them in where they go alphabetically so I do not have to rearrange each shelf every time.
When you get rid of all that stuff you feel so much better and wonder why did o keep this stuff for so long. I didn’t have nearly as much stuff as you have but it will feel amazing when you get rid of it. Plus the house will look amazing.
I organize by genre and then alphabetically. I try to stay away from sorting by studio even though some like Criterion stick out. But I moved away from shelves a long time ago and adopted the Netflix model of printing a label and putting the disc in a sleeve in a drawer. After 566 UHDs, 2862 BDs, and 534 DVDs, I just cannot find a rack solution to display the discs, so now shelving is for collectible statues, etc.
Finally, movie room tour. Looks great. The trunk does look out of place but I can help you out, let me keep it and I “promise “ I’ll give it back once you find a better place to put it. 😅
I've always had sucess (both with films and books) by just keeping it simple - i.e. catagorizing by author - meaning by main STAR. With thousands of titles, you're just making it many more times more difficult if you do anything else. For example, Brad Pitt, - look at maybe two dozen films he offers to the average collection. You'll find adventure, romance, sci-fi, action, even a bit of comedy. Does that mean file his stuff by genre? NO! Then go alphabetical, starting with 12 Monkeys. Perfect!
All I have to say is...down with special boutique shelves! Put everything next to everything else. Mix it all up. Get real genres going in the next sorting effort in a few years. Its very freeing

Well done! I find I end up doing a yearly rejig as well to fit in new movies I've watched and any new shelving I pick up. One of the lesser discussed downsides of being a collector...
I highly recommend you that you take the special feature disc out of the Man of Steel Blu-ray since the 4K doesn’t contain the special feature disc and this was a great video! I’ve been doing the same thing too as well
@@midlevelmedia You’re welcome! Surprisingly not a lot of people know about that but I managed to make my own three disc set with the special feature disc for it. It’s always good to double check all of the titles to see if all of the pre-existing bonus material has been transferred over or have to keep a duplicate in some cases.
Great collection. I've had to decide how important some movie titles were to me because I wanted to have a good collection but not a collection that screams "HORDER!" For a while I was collecting whatever I could get my hands on. Then I had to get rid of almost half of my collection because I had films I knew I would never watch or would only watch once and never have an interest in ever again. It's never a good idea to have movies that just sit on your shelf and take up space. I myself have over 2,000 titles. But of those 2,000 titles, I only have titles I know I will watch more than once or twice, and they are titles I care about. I ultimately had to make a choice in my life to develop healthy collecting habits. I owe this change in my life to RUclipsr FILMS AT HOME. He went through the same thing where he felt he was just hording movies and not just collecting. He gave me some great tips and I feel better about myself and my collecting habits.
I've been trying to figure out how to organize my stuff. I have a tiny house and I keep my stuff in my home office. I have two media shelves, just like yours, and they are beyond full. I probably have over 100 movies lying on the floor, waiting for a place to go. I have three other, larger(deeper) shelves, that I have collectibles on. Too many Funko Pops. I REALLY need to do something.

It is one of my all time favorite movies and I must bought the 4k (my very first black and white 4k) during the Criterion flash sale after listening to you and various other physical media RUclipsrs over the years talk about what 4k does for black and white and wow! I must say the hype is real! It was an entirely superior experience ❤ I hope you enjoy the movie AND the magnificent Joan Crawford!

Great collection Ken. I have a atlantic media shelf I ordered last year I still need to build haha. Haven’t had time to it. Love the way u have everything organized.
You think that's a mess? My theater room is far worse. I'm hoping to get everything finished though in the next week and a half. Painting 2 walls and building a new shelf to house about 700 blu-ray movies which will be filled nearly instantly because I will be using it for my steel books and my 3D blu-rays. Then will also be trying to paint my ceiling as carefully as I can because I will not be emptying anything out of my theater room. After that is done I will be installing the bracing for my Atmos speakers then obviously the speakers themselves. I have lights already up on opposite sides but will be putting up 2-4 foot LED click lights on both sides so when people are looking at what movie to watch it will be bright enough. I also have a stack of stuff to trade towards Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (Twilight Time) blu-ray limited to 3,000 and it has been oop for more than a decade. So the month of April will likely be very limited for movie buying and this month has surprised me with the amount of movies I have accumulated.
I got the Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (Twilight Time) blu-ray. In total I paid about $18 for the stuff they took in on trade and got back $1.75. So basically getting the movie for $16.25CAD.
2024 and still no Stranger Things 4k on physical media. Why? Why? 😢😭. Anyway great org vid. Currently trying to sort my collection out which is at this stage a total mess so have been watching vids like this to try and get some ideas on the best way to organise things. Interesting to see how you've gone about it.
You're doing what I do in keeping bluray copies when the 4K upgrades don't include them. On that note, you'll do well to keep your copies of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I upgraded, and the 4K sets don't come with the blurays.
Looks like it is coming around nicely. Just need a spot for your gurney so you have somewhere to lay when your wife punches you out when you spend too much during your end of the month audit.
Will forever be envious of that From Beyond 4K. Hope that Vin Syn rereleases it with an alternate slip like they did with Tammy and The T-Rex, And Fade To Black.

It’s just the individual collections that don’t come with blu-rays. If you get the big Middle Earth collection it comes with blu-rays.
