How Do We Spend Our Time?

- How we spend our time is one of the most valuable decisions we make, because time is one thing we can never get back once it’s gone. Maybe God is calling you to do something more with your time, in this very moment even, but distractions are pulling you in too many different directions to focus. Make no mistake, distractions steal our time, even those we willfully choose. Even worse, as St. Alphonsus Ligouri said, voluntary distraction can steal our soul.
Maybe there’s a dozen different things you know you should be doing, but you can’t choose one, so you choose none. If that’s the case, Fr. Mike says to take solace in the fact that you only have to choose one task, because the reality is that multitasking doesn’t work anyway. Holiness is to choose one thing, namely to say yes to God’s will. So choose your one sacrifice, and say yes to the focused and singular task of holiness.

..."To busy scrolling through, and watching someone else life..." instead of living the life God has given to me. That hit me hard and is something I will be thinking about from now on.
To the point......no fluff.
This 😮
ngl, been battling distraction and procrastination a lot lately. The timing of this is literally perfect...thank you holy spirit and fr. Mike!
The Turtle Girl Distraction & procrastination....story of my life😂
Listen to the lyrics of Pink Floyd's "Time" and think of this video. ruclips.net/video/z67FsTNpexg/видео.html
Wa3ypx Thanks for that link. It was so interesting to hear those lyrics. They hold a gentle warning, I think.
Literal? You must’ve meant the timing was actually perfect. God bless.
It is hard to believe that we only have so much time in our lives
This man was sent by Christ. I am thankful for that! Thank you!
A couple of months ago I deleted all social media except RUclips and it has been the best choice ever!!! Never realized just how my much I wasted time scrolling on social media
I gave up social media for lent and haven't gone back. I also turned off my notifications on RUclips. I know when the videos I want to watch are posted. I want to be less distracted in life.
Im sitting in a dr office, with inside edition on the tv. Its trash, and the news is trash, and most intenet news is too. I agree with yall too. FB, twitter, and all that, trash. Iv been off fb a year now closer to 2 now.
Yes🙌🏾
RUclips is selfeducation.
Oh my hat I'm at 11pm and some........ Apart from not having my beloved husband anymore, I'm actually having a ball. On Sunday I went to Mass then later five friends and I went along the coast to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. On Monday I picked up a friend in town at the bus station and took her to her home. On Tuesday we had a home Mass and lunch at the home of the chairperson of our Women's Group. On Wednesday I drove 15 kms to pick up friend and bring her to Church for Bible Study. Did shopping on the way home. Thursday I'm taking another friend to hospital in the next town for x-rays. On Friday there is choir practice. In the afternoon I have to make three desserts for the Food Festival to be held on Saturday in the Convent grounds. I'm booked to do a 90 min stint selling pudding on Saturday morning. Today many seniors are still able to live full and productive lives. God bless you Fr Mike. Even though I'm an old person I always learn something from your videos.
Wow you are awe inspiring 😁 you are definitely NOT wasting time you are being the hands , feet and heart of JESUS to those around you ❤ you are an amazing example of being a disciple of Our Lord 😁 I hope I will be able to be as loving to others when I get to 11pm❤ may JESUS bless you abundantly love and prayers from England 😁🇬🇧
Paula you are an inspiration. May the Lord richly bless all you do for Him.
how do you do it, father Mike?!? how do you know always which video I need?!? this is pure Providence. thank you!
Darn it!!! Father Mike!!!
Exactly. Exactly. Thank you Fr. Mike. Let’s be clear, for the sake of justice and your humility: I’m not praising you so please keep striving because you’ve got a road ahead which is necessary and demanding as mine. But I’m thanking you and praising God because you say yes to His intent to touch all our hearts with what we need the most. So, thank you. And keep working. You’re helping me Fr. Mike, and I’m going to help you in return: by treasuring this wonderful truth I received through this video and applying it in my life the best I can. We’re all one Body! Regnare Christum volemus!
Yep, I'm watching this on June 6th and yesterday I spent most of the day doing absolutely nothing because I unexpectedly had the day off of work
True
I'm watching this on my phone... It popped up while I was getting ready to look up songs & do some rehearsing (I play keys in a band), which I have been putting off ALL WEEK... Because I've been messing around online on my phone.
Ironic that your video on distraction was in fact, a distraction. 😂
Indeed this is something I really need to work on! Thank you Fr Mike.
Many times we distract ourselves because we want to escape our reality, the tough things in our lives that we don't want to face or accept.
Existentialist
Greco Cabanero what is your point?
I am like this, though getting better. I find that if you ask God for help somehow reality is easier to accept and the end result is better than if I was distracting myself or numbed out with some repetitive activity. It's not something you were expected to do alone in the first place. God can work through the most surprising ways but He can't show up to help if you're "hiding".
lalaithan Thank you for your encouraging words! It makes a lot of sense.. and it really takes courage to choose to face things. Nothing changes if nothing changes. God will sees us through everything. Will keep you in my prayers.
@@saraabdallah5886 that was supposed to be a question but i was more convinced than confused that your comment exhibits the existentialist philosophy that is why i decided to omit the question mark :D
Oh Father Mike, I just love you so much, you are a gift!!!!
“Procrastination is the thief of time....” don’t know who said it, but my Mom used to quote it all the time......
I'm a simple man. I see a Fr. Mike video, I click.
Oh my Jesus. Forgive us our sins. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
I probably have 7, maybe up to 10 years left. 10 years will make me 76. Loneliness is a terrible thing, so I don't watch TV. I read, study, pray, and pray some more, since few people visit except my caregivers. Time moves slowly, and yet I'm dying. Avoiding TV makes the time last longer.
Mother Mary Appeared to me and made my belly grow. Pray for my protection.
During my career, an executive coach I met at a management class said that amidst everything that was urgent, we needed to make time for what was truly important. I never forgot it. One day, with a meeting to prepare for and several performance appraisals to write and various e-mails to answer, I spent half an hour leaning against the wall in the hallway talking quietly with a very junior, young employee in my group who had just gotten home from burying her brother. There was no contest, no question--that was by far the most meaningful part of that day. In retirement I am doing a lot of volunteering...all good, but I'm still seeking the focus for this part of my life.
I feel for you father Mike. You seem to think most of your life is over. One moment of our lives, at any age, with the Lord can be an eternity.
This video screams living in the present moment. If we do that, we are free from distraction and are better able to choose God's will. Thank you Fr. Mike! See you at Steubenville next week!
Fr. Mike is relentless in his joy, his zeal for Jesus Christ, and his zest for life. His genuine and natural style with a winning smile makes him very compelling and almost impossible to dislike.
You're a good dude Fr. Mike
Let's all remember to pray for our priests! Fr. Mike, my local priest Fr. Kevin, may God bless you and your sacrament! Amen
Now it's spent on RUclips watching Father Mike Schmitz 😊
I'm not even religious but I really find your content helpful, keep it up
Great.....great comment. You see the overall picture. Many do not, including myself.
@@stressbelden4478 well Lord Jesus is the ultimate overall picture so your reply doesn't make sense?
Did you convert to belief?
@@stressbelden4478 Is this comment from a Christian perspective?
I got my Facebook account in 2011 and decided to keep it as a means on evangelization... but even though I used it for something good, it did steal much of my time-- much of my family time--- my kid's time... about 4-5 months ago, after much discernment and prayer, I decided to keep away from it... God was calling me to silence-- to reflect upon my own life. Thanks to that, I was able to realize how many people in my "personal" life need to be evangelized. I was trying to preach to many people I don't know, but was failing to preach to those who God gave me-- to those who do know me.
I worried too much about not being fruitful for God's Glory... but God called me to be fruitful where He put me--- with my family members, in my church, in my community-- even if it was just for one person--- God wants that "just one" person.
So, here I am--- focusing on my family more, getting a little more involved in my parish, and trying to do one thing at a time, one day at a time.... and, I still have a long way to go, but for some reason I think I have been more productive now than in those 7-8 years "evangelizing" through Facebook.
I just want to do God's Divine Will for me... please pray for me😑😑😑🙏🙏🙏
"youre not living the life God has given you" mannnn. Thank you Fr. Mike.
I was just thinking about how much I waste my time in front of a screen and procrastinating.
Ife O I’m retired and addicted to RUclips 😏...actually I still work part time and keep busy with my recovery and Art..I want to continue to serve others...
Lord, Have Mercy!
Greetings from Brazil Father Mike! Great teachings. I really enjoy listening to secular music. But lately i've been feeling that the music of this world, most of the times, distracts me from living the life that GOD wants me to live. Distractions are everywhere, and I want to be a Saint. So lets get rid of everything that is not GOD related. Amen. Hail Mary!
My time is to ask God to bless all the people who are watching this video and commenting on this video but I'm always happy to watch father Mike talk about God but I wonder When we get to heaven will see him there
That's true! Time is flying and no one knows how many days are left on earth. We all have to prepare well to see God Face to Face. Thx Father Mike!
Thanks Father Mike another massive jolt to the conscience and well worth it for the sake of the soul. Well, I'm off to bed now...22:17 in my neck of the woods. Good night and God bless 😊
I am doing just what I like to do: leisurely enjoying something I like like watching favorite TV shows.
watching this at 10:25 in the morning....as a 28 year old man...I feel like it's God's way of saying grow up...Thanks.
I found this channel by accident. I will say, evening is my favorite time of the day.
This couldn’t have come at a better time. I have been putting God second these past weeks and I need to make Him first again. Ive also been dealing with a lot of serious family issues and have been for over a year and I just need to find peace within myself again. Prayers appreciated.
i'll keep you in my prayers! God bless you and your family!
How did things go for you?
I spend my time mostly in martial arts and listening to music that wakes up the warrior inside of me. The honourable and humble warrior. Who doesn't look down in defeat, but looks up. I know Christianity is against martial arts, but I think being a good warrior is not a sin.
Tomaz Lovrin I agree, as long as you never strike first, and defend yourself or others only if absoloutely necessary.
@@Adam-jr4ln I look up to Archangel Michael when it comes down to martial arts. I know he protects me from losing myself. That I never strike first, I take down my foe and hold them down, I never hurt them with submissions, I always hold a good amount of restraint without injuring someone. I train Brazilian jiu jitsu and I will also start with Judo. I never liked to really hit someone. I like to take someone down and restraint them without causing serious damage. I train with humility and Honour.
@Content Corrector I use to protect myself and other's, but doing it with honour. But as why I do martial arts, Is to express myself
Tomaz, Christianity is not against martial arts.
If you are feeling like "you don't want to be where you are" and you're scrolling through your phone, please don't be driving. Thank you.
And thank you, Fr. Mike!
Right now God wants me to spend time serving the undeserving. Its the hardest thing for me to do and that's why I think God is keeping me in this mess. God is all about service and he wants to see if I can be more like him when it hurts. God help me cuz I feel like punching walls in this season.
Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored...
Thank You God for giving us Fr. Mike. God, You knew that I needed to hear this today. I'm struggling for so long with distraction, laziness, procrastination, slothfulness, gluttony etc. But it has been more strongly on my mind these past few days, especially today of how I'm wasting my life. God knew what was in my heart and He has spoken to me through Fr. Mike. God please bless Fr. Mike Schmitz and all priests in their ministry. Thank you so much Fr. Mike for this video and everything you do for us to lead us to God for the salvation of our souls. Thank You God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit for everything. I love You God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. Admirable is the Name of God. Jesus's Most Holy Name above all names. Come Holy Spirit into my soul. Amen 🙏 ✝ 🕊 🌹 ❤
God Bless Father.
When my very old patients(90+) often ask me why are they still here as they are no longer able to do much? I tell them that if you can't do anything else, at least you can still pray for your family and friends.
Yep, I'm still binge watching Ascension presents. Okay I get the message. I'll see if I can get a little more work in tonight. Lol. Thank you Father Mike
Father, it’s 11 PM and I was about to play video games. Now I’ll just go to sleep to make it to mass tomorrow morning. Thanks.
Thank you these videos. I have a hard time making decisions and this helps. Thank you Fr. Mike.
I was bout to stop the talk and go play a game (like I have tons of stuff to do😂) but just then Fr Mike was like one of the ways to lose your soul is voluntary distraction....damm talk bout timing 😂
But seriously thank you Father 😁
I am not catholic but I really enjoy your videos.
Needed this. Was just procrastinating on RUclips when I turned this video on. Amazing.
All I can say is "Wow". I needed this.
God have mercy on our souls.
I have recently been awakened to my faith and I better get after it. I've got to get my wife and sons and stepdaughter and grandchildren on the path to the Father...I ask for any prayers I can get. Lord Jesus Christ, grant us your mercy!
VERY GOOD MESSAGE TO BE CLEAR ON THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF TIME.
I vacuumed while I heard your talk. I m reminded to go visit some seniors. Thanks
My priorities fitness and health lifestyle in spending my time. Strength training after work and trail runs on Sundays, while not compromising mass and community (cell grp) time with God and my fellow brothers and sisters. When I am exercising, I can talk to God. Faith & Fitness (:
So incredibly relevant to what I'm going through. Social media is stealing everybody's time and essentially everybody's life.
Story of my life is searching for distractions to hide the fact I was unhappy. It's a hard habit to break but I'm working on it. Getting closer to God has helped a lot.
God bless you, Father Mike! 3 Hail Mary's for you
Imagine each distraction as a grain of sand, and each mortal sin as a rock. Nobody likes to get hit by rocks so people might be more careful about them. But people don't mind a little bit of sand, and typically they shrug it off. But nobody wants to get hit by a 50lb bag of sand. Distractions aren't much on their own, but added together they will take a big chunk out of your time. God Bless you and I hope you continue making these videos.
Thank you, Father.
Wow
That was
JUST what I needed right now. Thanks for being you! I wish that I’d grown up with priests like you!
I distract myself from sleeping. I should sleep but I don’t. Pray for me! I just need to choose sleep. Fr Mike, you’re pretty good. Thank you. Except it’s about 2230 for me.
I desperately needed this video! Thank you for your ministry. I have been so confused lately as to what God wants me to do with my time. I keep praying for a straightened pathway and a correct discernment. Also, it seems that everytime I receive a step forward, I end up experiencing a set back. Well, what seems like a setback anyway... I've watched your video on suffering and it's helped me as well, because I also have been dealing with the season of suffering for what seems like forever. I have recently graduated with my associates degree in English. I was supposed to be moving to a state university, and have instead been in bed for a week and a half fighting off another infection in my body for which I am currently on antibiotics. I'm not sure of what his plan is for my life. I am constantly offering up my illnesses for those in need of salvation. I also have such a connection with the story of Job because of this pattern in my life. What I've learned most from that story is that it was never about the restoration of Job's circumstances, but rather the building of fully trusting in God regardless of the circumstances. I have so many dreams, ideas, and visions that in my heart I feel would bring enlightenment to others and glory to God. I just keep praying that these line up to his will for my life, and that my time here on earth can be used for this purpose instead of being in bed sick and trolling the internet. Again thank you for your ministry and God bless you Father!
Misty Angel 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I pray your season gets better. As someone who knows full well the meaning of knowing what Job went through ,like you. We have to keep praying. Find peace in the middle of the suffering. That will be far more beneficial than no struggle at all. We live in a fallen world after all. It’s hard to crawl up on that cross with Christ. Wish it on no one. I do pray for Gods mercy for you and healing. God bless.
@@leonardstefanyshyn40 thank you so much for this reply. I greatly appreciate it. All I have is my faith, and with every struggle I do become stronger of course. However, it's tiring for sure, physically mostly. Especially when all I would love is the ability to act for his glory in this messed up world. The fact that I know there's a purpose for everything is plenty reason for me to keep going. Even if God chooses to not heal me at all in this life. Thank you again for your acknowledgement and prayers.
im a bit late, but this was beautiful
@@mistyangel225Hello? Are you still here?
According to my age, its about 5pm. Wow! Certainly puts things into perspective 😮
Thank you for the awakening!
As we're the same age, I rather think of my 5pm time frame as ready to make the last few hours of my life really amazing!
Thank Father Mike we need this reminder don't be distracted from God
Thank you so much father Mike!!
Amen! Thank you Fr. Mike! 😊😊😊
Fr Mike for Pope!
I was just pondering on what is my purpose in life and how can I be more productive with my time and came across this video. I have been wanting a change in my life and career. Currently decorate cakes and while I love doing it I feel like my time could be spent doing something more worthwhile. I have been contemplating trying to get a job at a retirement home for a few weeks now. I would love to be able to spend time with the elderly that may be lonely or in need of a person to talk to. When you mentioned nursing homes and spending time with the elderly I just couldn’t help but feel like God was tapping on the shoulder with this message. Thank you for all the videos, they have helped guide me through my season of change, God bless! ❤️🙏🏻
Man, I love you, Fr. Mike. Thanks for the really powerful reflection.
I need to se this poem on time and our life!

Much needed for me... Thank you Fr. Mike
i teared up a little this is exactly what i needed!
Volontary distraction...tears the soul down! WOW! Some youngsters spend hours on gadgets...distracted on games.
As for me, maybe, my life timing is 5.30pm, I go on social media on short breaks during the day when I am exhausted/bored.
Thank you Fr. You really pick peculiar topics but really down-to-earth. God bless you.
