Would It Just Be Easier Not to Be Christian?

- What if no one ever told you about Jesus?
Your life probably wouldn't have so many rules. You wouldn't be as guilty for any sins you commit (you wouldn't even know they were sins in the first place). You wouldn't need to evangelize.
And you wouldn't know that the God of the universe-your creator-loves you with a burning passion that you can't even imagine.
Today, Fr. Mike makes the case that it is better to know Christ. It is better to live in the truth. And it is better to take on the challenge of Christian discipleship.

Would everyone would please pray for me and my wife. My son just called us and told us he is pagan now and practice’s witchcraft. He’s 28 and confused. Please pray for us and him. He has my grandkids and I can’t let them be raised that way. Praise be to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. God Bless you all.
I am praying for you. Your son may be going through a phase. Please don't let your disapproval of him separate yourself from your grandchildren
Oh, what a trial and tribulation. I will keep you in prayer.
@@MorreHope Thank you and God Bless you.
@Don4765 I will pray with all my heart!! My son's wife is also pagan and practicing witchcraft and it's been really hard on me!! And I worry about my grandkids as well being exposed to that!! My heart goes out to you!! God will prevail!! 🤍🙏🕊 Jesus I trust in You!! 🙌
@@crystaltyerman5259 I put you and Don my prayer list.
I´m a Greek Orthodox living in Colombia a Roman Catholic Country, i wish one day western roman church and eastern church become one Church again as we were for 10 centuries καθολικός
When I returned to Catholicism, I went back to church and took communion like I did when I was 13. Little did I know, I was supposed to go to confession because I sinned a lot between the ages of 13 and 48. Many of them being grave sins. So, after a couple months of taking communion, I found out from a youtube video that it was yet another sin to take communion without going to confession. So, the entire time I thought I was doing right by regaining my faith, going to church, partaking in the Eucharist, only to find out that I was committing more grave sins. So, once I found out, I went right to confession and confessed for not confessing sins before receiving the bread. I wrote a big paragraph explaining the matter and apologized to God, Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. I also apologized to the priests at the church because they didn't know, even though I didn't know, but it was still my mistake and should have spoken to a priest first before participating in mass.
Good comment, and I'm sure you are totally forgiven
Wow! Glad you got that all sorted out.
Actually you returned to Christianity. The church is Catholic because is universal, but we are Christians.
Don’t let Protestants steal our true name.
You took responsibility and fixed it. Good for you
@@mathtutoring7509real. It's time to take our title back.
I'm Catholic and married a non-catholic outside the Catholic Church and would still receive communion. I didn't know I couldn't because I was under the thought that we were married. However, 10 yrs later my sister tells me that I'm not suppose to receive communion because me and my husband were "living in sin" because we weren't married in a Catholic church. I confirmed this with my pastor and he verified I wasn't suppose to receive but assured me that because I didn't know it wasn't a sin. I can no longer receive communion or go to confession until we get married in the Catholic Church. (Waiting on his annulment to go through from his 1st marriage). Being made aware of the sin is not fun. I now long for Jesus and I look fwd to the day when I'm able to receive him again. People take Him for granted and don't realize the love they are able to receive every Sunday, and my heart breaks because I can't right now. It's a void feeling knowing that I'm missing Him. I can only receive him through holy spirit but I can't wait to be able to receive communion once again. ❤
Hang in there ❤
I’m so sorry, that must be awful, I admire your faith!!
I am confused as to why you can't go to confession. That doesn't make sense
@bobandkelly Hi Kelly. If you are still living in sin, you can not go to confession because you can't be absolved from all sin. The father can not absolve part of your sins. The only way to be able to go to confession and be absolved is if you promise to live as brothers and sisters until you are married in the Catholic Church. Hope that helps.
@missequestrian3448 thank you. I know God knows what's in my heart and I will follow the rules because it's nothing compared to the suffering Jesus had to go through for our sins.
Best part of Wednesday is a Fr. Mike video!
yepper!
New Catholic here, I did not know that missing mass on Sunday was a mortal sin. Thank you for educating me on this!
Yes. I suggest you learn the Precepts of the Catholic Church. It is stated in there.
You are missing the blessings and also some of your brethren might need you to strengthen their faith. Maybe just to see you would be enough for someone.
Yes, 3rd commandment. I also was kind of complacent, but I need to change.
Catholic examination of conscience
Unless it's absolutely impossible for someone to get there, yes it is.
About halfway through RCIA I thought this is going to be hard to impossible. Eight years later I'm still trying. Sure it would have been easier to bailout; but it has been worth it.
I'm in it now and it's a lot of information.
@@yucatansuckaman5726 I know some reasons to think that God is real if you ever need to hear some.
IT'S SURE WORTH IT! ALL THE TREASURE IS IN THE CATHOLIC FAITH. What you think you love in the world - God can give you so much greater things when you give them up. God Bless
If it was easy, it wouldn't be so rewarding. We converts have to work and struggle to come into the church, we have to really want it....and that makes it that much more special.
Father God, my strength is gone. After suffering a heart attack two years ago and battling lupus I feel weak. Please give me strength. I will always keep faith and I trust in you. Even as I constantly struggle to provide for my children I trust in you Heavenly Father. Walking with faith is all we can do as christian’s. Like most single mothers things are hard on me.Both of my sons are autistic, it’s a lot on me. I’m constantly struggling to pay rent and constantly struggle to provide for my boys. I’m overwhelmed and now that I’m home schooling them I’m having trouble getting their school supplies. Heavenly and merciful Father, I come before your glorious throne today, in humble adoration please help me overcome my struggles and my constant fear of poverty. I know you have a plan for me Lord Amen!
Keep talking to Him in prayer✝️
I'm sorry for not being able to help you physically. But I want to let you know that I pray with you for you and your kids.
Mother Mary intercede for this mom and her children. Whatever is needed provide for her. St Joseph pray for her and her children. Lord have mercy❤️🙏✝️
Mother Mary, sometimes God and your son take their darling time. Please be with this mother in her struggles and her wins. Wrap her in your cloak and provide peace and comfort.
Pray the rosary. Mother Mary works fast and fervently. 🩵
Amen❤️
7:06 I love this point.
Imagine going your whole life not knowing somebody loves you so deeply
God Bless you Father Mike
You do not harp on sin! I think it is an act of love to remind us it is out there. A good Shepard leads us away from pitfalls. Lead on Father! 😊
One question that I think a lot of Catholics especially youth struggle with is how do we spread the word of god to others without making it seem like we’re judging them or that we’re trying to degrade them ? Because now an days people can take things the wrong way.
I hate this phrase but "preach the gospel at all times, use words if necessary." Correcting others and calling out sin should be done delicately and privately if you are doing this to a friend or family member. Sometimes the best thing is to simply pray for someone, model good behavior, pay attention to their favorable traits, and just be a good friend. Be realistic. You don't have to be friends with everyone. If someone's sinful lifestyle is causing you unnecessary difficulty, please distance yourself if you can. This is general advice so it may not apply to you at all. But sometimes some people are truly a negative influence. Pray that God gives you the humility and courage to speak the truth with compassion and understanding. Be realistic. Most people don't like feeling judged or criticized.
@@IONov990 thanks for the advice as a young catholic it’s just something I sometimes have difficulty with, while the friends I surround myself with aren’t pressuring their beliefs on me and are respectful of my morals , sometimes when certain conversations come up of certain topics and they ask my opinion I just have trouble getting the truth out because I don’t want to offend anyone and also I prefer not to argue with anyone but at the same time I want to be a catholic who speaks the truth and doesn’t beat around the bush if that makes sense :)
@@angelicaruiz4501 State your opinion when asked. Be firm, well educated and respectful. Be open to listening but don't think you should change to please others. I am under the impression you are talking about issues like LGBTQIA+ and abortion, am I correct? If your opinion is based on the truth then have confidence. You don't have to be aggressive, abrasive, condescending, or start to lecture. Provide your opinion when asked and be able to back it up with facts, reasoning, and a solid explanation. Be clear when you speak.
I'm similar to you - I fear conflict and people hating me.
@@IONov990 yup it’s that fear that I struggle with and it’s when addressing those topics that I get a little iffy but thank you for the advice I will continue to pray that not only me but all young catholics and catholics in general can have the courage to speak the truth about the faith to others God bless you :)
@@angelicaruiz4501 If it is those issues, be prepared for people to get upset with you and maybe even aggressive. You may be called names. LGBTQIA+ issues and abortions are issues people tend to get very riled up about. It's unfortunate that it is that way these days. God bless you.
"To not tell them about Jesus is to deny them God's love". Such an important aspect of how not mentioning Jesus is like a sin of omission. We must say yes to opportunities that allow us to share about Jesus and also actively share about Him. Thank you, Fr. Mike!

This is crazy, I’ve been think about this since I started getting closer to God. Everything that fr mike said has answered a lot of things I’ve had on my mind and it only make my faith stronger because I know this is a form of god answering my prayers
I have been struggling very hard with this topic.
Whether it’s good to know or not know ( “to be or not to be” ) Catholic / Christian.
Lord, have mercy on me the sinner.
St. Augustine pray for me. St. Dismas pray for me.
Would you say that your belief is firm?
I’ll pray for you ❤
I had written this today; in Day 237. Here is an excerpt. I think there are others with such questions here. I learned to Trust.
My words: Quote.
The devil knows all the ins and outs of the Bible; he knows right and wrong. You cannot outwit the devil. He is not sterile; but is evil to sterilize humans. Womb means you know; or you were presented the -Truth: in order; to correct your misunderstandings; and be led like a child. Children learn the error of their ways like in:
-error vs upright salvation.
I wrote on this already. The devil knows exactly what he is doing; and if you think you can outwit him; he'll always win. It is better to put on the whole armour of Christ; to conquer the wiles of the devil.
I was thinking it about it too ngl
The more wisdom you obtain, the more Responsible you are held ❤
Living for Christ is not supposed to be a burden. On the contrary, it sets you free.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
8:32 This part got me. 😭 The tragedy of never knowing how deeply and profoundly you are loved.
“It’s about living this relationship of Love” This ☝️
This is real. I feel like the Older son in Luke 15. But I pray over the words, "My son, you are here with me always, everything I have is yours!"
It is a very fitting topic for today. I have just had a meeting with my Priest and I am getting baptised and confirmed in the Catholic Church on All Saints Day.
Congratulations! I was baptized and confirmed into the Church two years ago!
Wow!!! I'm speechless..... it's like you were talking right to me. I felt it. Thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

"There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
I was just having an hours-long discussion with loved ones about this topic today. What a great and timely resource! Thanks Fr. Mike!! Praise God!!
My friend wrote that people leave because they are tired of suffering, yet this unfortunately completely misses the point that sharing in the divine life far surpasses anything this world and its apparently immediate comforts has to offer!
God bless, Fr. Mike!☦
I understand your point, but I do think ‘suffering’ isn’t just about a loss of comforts. It can also be about our own distance from God, and be so so much deeper than just wanting comforts. Even though we all do to some extent from our humanness.
@@missequestrian3448 Thank you. Yes, my friend specifically wrote about disciplines causing suffering, and elsewhere has spoken of immediate comforts. My point is simply that the true, and only real, abiding comfort is God in our soul right here and now, and into eternity. Thus, we are in complete agreement regarding not having distance from God. We need him here and now, and the world offers nothing in comparison. God bless you abundantly!
@@seans.1331 Thank you for being so kind. I’m not sure exactly why I said it like I did… But yes, I think I was just reminded by your words the pain that comes from knowing God is our refuge and comfort and strength, but not feeling capable of getting to him. That doesn’t change how almighty and inescapable he is though. How we feel about him doesn’t change how much he loves us and wants to give us refuge. Thank you again and God bless you too!
@@missequestrian3448 Thank you:) Yes, good points. God bless
But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring [the] good news!” -Romans 10:14,15
Peace be. Love- the cost of love, a mother's love --- Hail Mary Full of Grace. Jesus Loves us. 10:46
I've thought about this, too, and Fr. Mike's final point really drives it home. Entering the Kingdom of God brings us out of the darkness that eats away at our souls. Just allowing people to fester in sin goes against the love of neighbor that Jesus has taught us to bear for others. And hoarding the Kingdom of God (like the servant who buried the talent he was given) and keeping the love of God for ourselves, while people suffer, is not what Jesus taught us to do. Jesus came for all who are lost (and for us still being saved and sanctified). Sharing the Good News is not about sharing the burden of rules but allowing people to partake of the treasures of the Kingdom and eternal life with God.
Thank you for this beautiful message! I have learned that although it is hard to be a follower of Christ, it is all worth it!!! As a recent diagnosed cancer patient, I find God wrapping His arms around me, giving me support when I most need it. I am not perfect, but our Lord is! Thank you Father for your love. Give us strength to continue following your word and courage to share your gospel!
God bless you . Keep fighting the cancer. You can respond here if you need a person to talk to. I have a lot of cancer in my family. It scares me .
I LOVED THE CONTENT OF THIS. SO IMPORTANT AND SO WELL PUT. THANK YOU FATHER MIKE. ❤

Truly knowing God, not merely ‘knowing of God’ brings incredible fulfilment of life. Lots of rules and responsibility too🙈🙏🏻, but not enough that it steals from me the joy and comfort of being a true child of God. I’m so grateful for daily encouragement and direction. Thank-you Fr Mike.🙏🏻❤️
I have caught myself thinking like his brother especially when I perceive that the person won’t go to Mass every week or stop doing this or that. Thanks for the change in perspective.
What if you’re so worried about all the “rules” you have to follow it begins to take away from your relationship with god like accepting he loves you etc and not that he’s checking a box for what you do/don’t do???
Welcome to Catholic guilt, lol. GOD LOVES YOU. Go to Confession and to Mass. Do the best you can and ask God to help you please Him. You'll be fine
I would recommend looking up videos and talks on Scrupulosity. It’s been described as a form of Religious OCD. We become so worried about everything little thing that it can become a distraction. Going to confession too much cuz you worry you might have mortally sinned. I have been struggling with this myself. There are a lot of ppl that struggle with it. Some to more of a degree than others.
There are videos from this channel and Matt Frad has had talks with two guests that I’ve seen. One was an actual Dr.
One thing a Priest said to me that helps is God isn’t gonna make you jump through hoops. He loves us and like Fr Mike said it just helps us realize how much we really need his grace and mercy.
Remember God loves you, and he knows your heart. God bless you!
@@JJTP3 Thanks for mentioning this - I also struggle with religious OCD/scrupulosity. It’s an evil thing, and slowly brings you farther from God instead of closer. People who tend to struggle with this need to be very careful to follow what the church actually teaches and not what their mind tells them is necessary. There’s some good books out there, one I read was called “scruples and sainthood”.
Thank you Fr., I love Jesus but I am not doing everything I supposed to do as far as Holy obligations are concerned.
My heart longs for HIM but I don't visit HIM often... He is always in my mind & heart though!

This will bring people to the true understanding of holiness. I watched a sermon with Fr. Mark Beard; late. I will do that holiness; that is to tell everyone where I stand; my stand is with Mary; that's a big no, no; and doing the sign of the cross; another big no, no; I HAVE TO DO THIS. I stand with Fr Mike in this.
Jeff Cavins helped me a lot. Next month I will get my eyebrows singed again. Fire, fire, fire fall on me. Purgatory time. I would rather be purged here than on the other side of Jordan.
I change my mind about telling my family about being Catholic. I am already in Purgatory having to be the go between; with the family split; because: of the church split in the cult. I have a personal Purgatory; my priest described it as such; better than the hellish existence in the cult that: I finally escaped that. I have my PTSD under control. My nerves were just shot. wrote to my bilingual priest; Pr Daoust. He knows what the usual trial always was and still is; the tower and Queen Ester protected by her guards. Actually, it was good that it happened; that I could figure out certain things; and see; that the diabolical knows; - things; like to create; - A BREAK WITH THE NORM; AND - WHY NOW; the timing. I SAID: NO. WE ARE GOING TO KEEP THINGS STATUS QUO. THAT BIBLE STORY; THE FEAST OF PURIM. I love Jewish songs. La, La, La, La.
I love that approach...telling someone that they have a secret admirer! ⚘️

When did you convert?
A good place to start is catechism in a year with fr. Mike. You learn the foundation.
Take it easy during this process. I was a catholic growing up but went away for a few years. Coming back I am learning more than I even did in my younger years. Know the lore of God is deep. And its okay to not know everything now. Consider it like a relationship u have with someone. It will take forever to try to know everything about them. Just enjoy the ride❤️

The Church doesn't talk about sin enough! Thank you Father. Excellent, as always.
Needed to hear this, thanks fr Mike. Nice tan too.
Definitely easier to be a Christian, so long as you're not lackadaisical about it. If you're putting in the work to be good and a real servant of God and going to mass at the very least every Sunday, then I think you'll reap many benefits that outweigh any of the difficulties of trying to be good, or more specifically trying not to sin. When I walked away from God for many years living a secular lifestyle with an Agnostic view, those were the hardest times of my life even though I allowed myself to partake in things that made me feel good at the time that clearly are sinful in nature. Even when your beliefs end up being totally backwards, you're still very much hurt by your sins even if you've reached a point you don't view those things as sinful at the time. I'm much happier having turned back to God, and I genuinely believe in it all now. I'm actually just embarrassed and ashamed that I ever questioned His existence, and became so wrapped up in the sinful modern culture.
God bless you father.
God bless you Father Mike. Thank you!
To further clarify mortal sin
It has to be
1- Grave matter
2- Full knowledge ( knowing it’s wrong, knowing what it would do with your relationship) important note. You must know it’s SINFUL AT THE TIME YOU ARE COMMITTING IT,
3- Full consent ( choosing it intentionally and willingly)
That assuming you are a devote Catholic
For our scrupulous brothers/sisters
1- There are only a handful of things that are grave ( murder, great theft, Lust, blasphemy, missing mass, great lies ( rare), great gossip( rare), adultery.
That has to be met with the other two criteria at the same time and at the full capacity.
That’s how mortal sin works, and why it’s difficult for a devote Christian Catholic to commit.
God mercy is amazing, trust in it.
There are many devote traditional Catholic who forget the criteria
So you know....there are times where I think I can read a persons heart....even if it’s recorded bc I know a person enough to know who they are talking about. But then there are moments when the Holy Spirit shares insights from somewhere out of a Minnesota corn field that hits at my core and makes me question if I even know the Paraclete bc of the shock. I likely misunderstand but the thought, gave me pause from the daily struggle. Thanks.😊
Thank you, Father Mike. Please keep at us. Offering God's love and commands in simple for all
To grasp. Glory to God.

I’ve learned very recently that you have to accept and trust. Embrace the rules. Do what we’re supposed to do. I’m going through it now and getting help from my parish. It’s taken almost my entire adult life to realize it and understand it.
At 7.20 - Fr Mike, that’s the thing - the truth that really shines from you and other people of faith - and the thing that people find so hard to believe - it’s too good to be true, isn’t it? One of the biggest problems Catholic Church has is legalism 10:46 . Now granted the church has rules. But more Catholics are hung up on the rules and they are the conversion of souls. That's why more people become Protestants than Catholics. It's more about the person's relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior, then the denomination. Too many people get hung up on the denomination and not the relationship
Christ established a church and a religion. To have a “relationship” outside the church which Christ established (the Catholic Church) is dangerous to one’s soul
Wow. So glad I found this channel thru the men's church group I just attended for the first time. Love your energy Fr Mike. You have a new subscriber. God's speed.
