    Don’t forget to wash your balls… Leca balls that is!
    LECA: Lightweight expanded clay aggregate
    Leca is a growing medium that you can grow your plants in. You can also add Leca to you soil mixes to provide better aeration. Growing in Leca alone is consider semi hydroponics.
    So if you struggle with growing plants in water this can be a great alternative. Let me know if you want more beginner guides to Leca and to help you decide if it’s something you want to give a try.

    For leca, it’s all about the set up!
    It’s easier if you put your plant with leca in something like an orchid pot with lots of holes. Your water + nutrients go in a reservoir instead of just putting everything in glass jars. Cover your reservoir part (a decorative planter with a plug works well too) so it’s not clear. This will prevent algae. When it’s time to flush the leca just remove the inner pot with the plant in it and replace it when you’re done. ☺️ There, I fixed it! Love your channel tho!

    Once you’ve done the initial rinse of the leca, it’s totally fine to rinse in your sink. There’s no residual dust once it’s been rinsed/soaked/rinsed again initially. To anyone interested in Leca: I would recommend using nursery pots! I have several plants in Leca for several years now, and didn't even know about any of those issues. My water is always clean and odorless. I top up the water about every 5-7 days and do a complete water change 2-3 times a month and wipe out the cachepots. I prefer to have my climbing plants in soil, but otherwise I love Leca. So simple and effective. Just yeah... Don't forget the nutrients🌱🌱🌱

  • @moniquemc3420
    @moniquemc3420 Год назад +12

    If you put the plants in a clear nursery pot and then put that pot in a translucent cover pot the light won't get to the water as much and you won't get as much algae. You'll also be able to take the clear nursery pot and flush it under a running tap or the one outside much easier & quicker. I ❤ Leca

Leca is man made and you have to add artificial nutrients which some think is easier but I think it’s much more efficient to use normal soil and organic matter like bark, paper waste, food waste ect. We have too much waste and since doing environmental studies I now really try and use up all of my waste to avoid landfills. I only live in an apartment but I still manage to compost and by using your own natural waste your giving your plants plenty nutrients and saving all the extra money.

    Is it OK to fill water all the way if it's a cutting? I realized some of my monstera cuttings weren't touching the water so... I fill it up to the top

    Do you think doing it in something that isn’t clear would reduce your algae production?

    Hi, I have a quick question about cacti. I have a moon cactus and the coloured top of it has some rotting parts, do I cut off the rotten parts or give up on the plant?

      You can try to cut the rotted parts and see if it makes it through.

    Isn't algae good for water propagation in small amounts?
    They increase oxygen level of the water, as long as the the colony don't die off suddenly spike ammonia levels.

    Can you talk more about the fertilizers you use? I actually bought the one in this video because of an older clip of yours & all of my hydro plants are thriving now! Do you also use this on your soil potted plants? what fertilizers do you recommend?
