Jenny, first let me say I absolutely love you! I love your style, your humor, and your recipes! I’ve tried many and loved them all. I hope you don’t mind me sharing this and I hope you will try it.
I’m sure there are several ways to do this. I’d like to share mine. I have to give credit to Ree Drummond the Pioneer Woman for sharing this. I promise you this has worked 100% of the time for me and no baking soda needed or ice water. The secret is...you bring your water to a boil first and then you add the eggs! When water begins to boil you gently add one egg at a time (I used a slotted spoon to gently set the egg into the pot). Do NOT drop them in. You let the eggs gently boil for 11 mins for large eggs or 13 minutes for extra large. Leaving the eggs in the pot, I pour most of the hot water down the drain, set my pot of eggs in the sink and run cold water from the faucet over the eggs and that’s it!
They peel so perfectly, that many times the shell comes off in just two pieces. They are perfectly cooked every single time, never have any grey color to the yolk. Tender and never rubbery. Give it a try!
Before I came here from your apple pie recipe (which I'm going to do), I finally found a way to get great, easy peel eggs.
I don't boil them, I steam them in a vegetable steamer.
Get the water to boiling, place the eggs in the tray and steam them for 11-12 minutes (add a minute for jumbos).
Place in cool (not ice) water for 6-7 minutes, and peel. Seriously, no vinegar, no salt, no baking soda, no ice. It works, but don't ask me why.
Finally, a method that actually works! Thank you sooooooo much for this and the delicious chocolate cake. I’ve made the cake many times over and it is absolutely delicious. Your channel is excellent, as are your recipes and the humorous interjections.
I love your humor!
As a bachelor who hardly ever made hard-boiled eggs he would want anyone else to ever see, I tried this. Now I gotta give you a little hug.
Heck, I took pictures of them. lol
where are you now Jenny? you are so awesome!!!!! come back-would love to see more jokes and your pretty wholesome smile....you make my day ---HAPPY!!!!! God bless you!
smile-tweetybird hi I miss her too , on one of her videos she wrote she is retired and wasn’t expecting such a large popularity, and that she is taking it easy.
Great video. I have a different method though. I've tried everything, including the method in the video. What I've found that works for me is two things: 1) don't use fresh eggs and 2) add the eggs while the water is boiling. Don't add the eggs and bring them to a boil. That's the most important thing. Try it. It works every time.
I really wish you would more videos!!! We need you, & your humor right now!😉 ( not to mention your recipes!!!) ❤️
I LOVE YOUR RECIPE AS IT IS THE EASIEST ONE I HAVE SEEN. LIKE MILLIONS OF OTHERS I HAVE MESSED UP MINE WITH THAT GREENISH RING EVERY TIME BUT JUST TRIED YOURS AND I WISH I HAD WATCHED THIS LAST SUNDAY AS I MADE 24 DEVILED EGGS AND USUALLY WHEN I MAKE EGG SALAD THERE IS NO TIME FOR THAT GREEN RING. BUT WHEN I LET THEM SIT FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES, WELL. I JUST TRIED YOURS NOW AND PERFECTLY DONE. THOUGH I SHOOK UP THE WHOLE POT TO CRACK ALL THE SHELLS BEFORE PEELING THEM AND FOR ME IT MAKES THEM SO MUCH EASIER TO PEEL. THANKS AGAIN!!
Just tried it...works like a charm! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the tip Jenny! I love your videos and you of course! 😘
I've tried many different ways for hard boiled eggs but this method is the best one ever. Will only use this one from now on. Thank you
You're very helpful, and stay humorous!!
Ok, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 17 min. Then cold water. How do you store them in fridge? How long will they be safe to rate. You're a great cook and I love your channel
Brilliant! Thanks Jenny's got game.
I love the fat ending! Great tip I will try it.
Awesome cooking made so much easier n interesting.
You make it look easy
I have never heard of using baking soda in boiled eggs. Baking soda has so many uses.. now eggs. (which I almost never eat.) Excellent tip!
This is almost exactly the same recipe for boiling hardboiled eggs that Julia Child does except that she makes a tiny hole using a thumbtack to pierce the fat end of the egg, where the air sack is. She doesn’t use baking soda but she does bring the eggs to a full boil, and turns off the heat for exactly 17 minutes. Then follow through plunging them into ice water so the egg shrinks back from the interior shell and voilà, the eggshells peel off easily. But that baking soda intrigues me and I will definitely try it out. I love Jenny Jones - I wonder what she’s been up to lately.🤔💕
wow I've been subscribed to this channel for a while, and only just now did i realize this was Jenny Jones.. man i used to watch her show in the 90's all the time! How did i not see it. I guess its been so long that i didn't remember what she looked like. Well anyways, looking great Jenny thanks for the tips.
I for some reason want to marry this woman
No way buddy, I saw her first!
Kevin Alexander I want to marry her just so she can cook for me. I’m not even gay! Lol
She’s funny, she cooks and she’s attractive...what’s not to love?
Yo tambien!
Awesome 😊
Yes, I eat lots of hardboiled eggs and have tried every 'best" way , they turn out cooked perfectly but always hard to Peel. Hope this works!
Thank you! My eggs always stick to the shell. I will try this
I find that rolling cooled boiled eggs with the palm of your hand with slight pressure help the shells come off in small sheets. I'm sure with this baking soda tip, it will be even easier now! Thanks Jenny!
I love the heck out of hard boiled (or actually medium boiled in my case) eggs, but yeah the peeling, good _night!_
Thank you for your wonder cooking videos. I make six hard boiled on Sunday and leave in the fridge . I have one first thing in the morning before I do a workout. Should I leave the shells on or take them off and store in fridge?
Thanks again for your site
+Chris Stotz I always leave them in the shell.

Excellent Jenny ! I once ate 23 hard boiled eggs in 4 minutes. Just saying.....lol. You are still beautiful - Joe
It's true, and she looks so young !
She use to have her own talk show ! great tip.
Hi Jenny! I’ve just discovered your channel and see that most of your videos are over 4 years ago - hope you’re ok please do more!!
Great tips! Nothing is more frustrating that shells that won’t release, ruining the smooth glossy egg whites!
OK I finally have time to focus on this method. Can’t wait to make some deviled eggs for dinner with intact whites
My mom and brother watched your show all the time :)
Many methods for easy peeling eggs work if you use older eggs. The only way to get fresh eggs to peel easily, for me, is steaming in a pressure cooker. Using an electric pressure cooker, I put an inch of water in the pot, put a steaming basket with eggs, one or a dozen(time remains the same), into the pot, cover on with pressure relief closed, and set pressure to high and time to one minute for soft boiled or two minutes for hard. Of course the total time will be much more because time only starts after pressure is achieved. When the timer dings slowly release the pressure and move the eggs to cold water. Change the water to keep it cool or use running water. If you want to use eggs for deviled eggs turning the carton over a couple times a day will help keep the yolks more centered.
Jenny, I have never fried my eggs in butter... I always and only using rendered bacon grease. To boil eggs so I never have green on the yolks, and have an easy time peeling them, I bring 'em to a rolling boil & maintain that boil for 12 minutes, then chill them in ice water immediately for about 5-8 minutes. Easy peasy every time.
I find salt does the same as baking soda. I also crack on each and and it helps the peeling process go by faster.
The method that works every time for me is to put the eggs in tap water and put it on the high flame for 15 minutes (that's the time it takes to heat up plus boiling). Then I pour out the boiling water and fill the pot with "cold" tap water, pour that out, then fill the pot again enough to cover the eggs halfway. The eggs are still hot but can be handled. I roll the egg on the counter, shattering the shell. They practically peel themselves.
What an interesting info on making perfect HBE, I am sure I was misinformed wheresoever, about boiling for 15 - 17 minutes where I end up with burnt eggs, totally ruined but I still ate them instead of throwing all away. Keep up with your being funny. Thanks!
excuse me for intruding...it was "TURN OFF upon boil and cover for 17 minutes"...i hope it works....
I do mine the same way the only difference I use is salt not baking soda tap at rack end peel in middle
Lol!! Love you Jenny
Pro tip: AFTER you peel your hardboiled egg ----- be sure and run the egg under a bit of water from the tap. Gently pat the egg dry. That way you make certain there are no teeny tiny bits of egg shell ending up in your egg salad sandwich or on your deviled eggs.
Will the baking soda, change the flavor or texture of the egg when cooked ?
No, there is no change in the flavor or texture.
Times are different ....the common denominator is the ice water step
Free range hens that eat lots bugs do make for better healthier eggs. Those good orange yolks, yum!
What this 17 minutes + baking soda and then two minutes in chilled water does is ------ it makes the yolks migrate to the bottom of the egg. However ---- the yolks do come out nice and bright yellow, with no dark ring.
Fast forward to today. All you need is an Instant Pot pressure cooker.
ps people, Jenny used to host a talk show and is a comedienne. Please try and get a sense of humor; I thought the joke about fat ends was hilarious!
I know I remember her from TV!
Side note, anyone out there know were to get a "French" spatula? Had one years ago and haven't found one since.
Walmart.
I’ve used salt for yrs now Im gonna switch to the baking soda
Cheeky Jenny !
If you put a boiled egg in a jar & shake it, it will crack the shell making it easy to remove; this is especially good & quicker, if you have a large amount of eggs to shell.
Haha omg this woman *cracked* me up. Pun, get it? Just kidding. Anyways, I love it because she is a jerk but in a cute funny way. She basically called us ugly from the start and a fat bottom towards the end but I took no offense at all. it's just humorous to me.
Is that a set ratio, a I/4 tsp to 4 eggs? Do you adjust accordingly, I imagine?
Son OfDog I don't think it's an exact ratio but I think I would increase the baking soda a little for 8 eggs or more.
Thank you.
Jenny, what irritated me was I clicked on your link in my subscriptions but when the video came up it was for an entirely different person. Shame on utube.
I am so pleased with your cooking channel and website.
Made your chkn pot pie. Divine it was, simply.
I do all this except only 10 minutes and they are perfection. 17 would be WAY too long it seems.
Yes I agree 10 minutes.
10 mins off heat ?

I always forget how long to let the eggs sit after they boil, so I'll have to keep this video forever! However, butter is always a grand addition to one's day!!
never got see inside the egg...
En français svp
my Grandpaw told me 50 years ago -- when you use store bought eggs -- leave them on the counter a few days then Boil for 10 then let them set on the counter to cool.. or add ice just like you did. :) Enjoying your Videos...
My mom always used a sharpie to mark the hard boiled eggs with a X so there was no “oops” mix ups... six kids and no one read the writing on the egg carton
Comeback Jenny I agree
Hahaha
I want her! Cute, funny and humor lady.
17 minutes is too long for my attempt. I got the green ring and too done centers. I like about 11 miutes.
11 x mins only, i do it, perfect eggs every time
Forgot the baking soda but the eggs were perfect ty
fat ends! lol!
Im already better loking. But i am sad because im no good at making hard boiled eggs.
Gosh jenny, you could have said that last comment a bit nicer. Anyway...one of my favs is creamy egg salad on soft white sliced bread with bread and butter pickles on the side YUM!
It's called a joke
I get it Sunshine. Thanks
great idea. you are very attractive.
Kiz jenny yumurtami bu
Great video. But you are really misguided about butter. It is a very healthy fat and has been wrongly villianized for too long. Do some research and eat more butter! :)
What does butter have to do with hard boiled eggs? Nothing!
I can smell them through the phone
Woops! I would boil my eggs for 15 minutes....now, I'll turn off the heat!
I love u Jenny. But u don't need soda n ice water. Just bring to boil. Turn off heat. Cover, wait 8 minutes. N u never get those green rings.
The best way to make hard or soft boiled eggs is to not boil them at all...steam them! They also peel nicely. Just sayin' :)
I have a huge butt, and I like it that way.
The coroner will probably like it too.
I love eggs.I have a FAT END
What a strange intro...
What a shame! I have been wrong all along to think brown eggs are better than white eggs nutrition wise. Oops
You should keep the jokes out the video freaking rude
Lighten up people, it was a joke. You're WAY too sensitive.
Son OfDog thak you!! never trust ppol who can't laugh!!
I can laugh, but give me something to laugh at. Not all jokes are funny.
The secret to pealing hard boiled eggs is to use older eggs, ones that expire in a week or two. The shell comes off easily. Too fresh, it's impossible. Another thing - I boil/simmer the eggs for 15 min, take them out rinse with cold water, wait 15-20 min until peeling them. None of this fancy ice bath stuff is necessary.
Or u can just put eggs and boil them..
no more "fat ends" for me!! hahaha....
Liked the video until the comment at the end that was just rude.
Just in case you are not aware Jenny was a comedienne when she started her career.
i thought it was funny.
It was a joke don't be sensitive
I enjoy your videos, but that last comment was beneath you and totally unnecessary.
Omg, it was a joke...
Beneath her? You are ridiculous. What a petty, condescending remark.
Oh good grief! Lighten up! It was a joke!
Way too complicated.
That was seriously rude, both jokes, otherwise very helpful instructional video (this is my personal opinion, you can have yours but telling me im wrong is imbecilic)
+Kara Hurley Come on, it's just humorous. I can imagine how bored you're lol
Stfu
Kara - Too much humorless p.c. in your cooking. Jenny is a delight, in part because she is so very real.
