I'll explain the Norman Osborn hairstyle to you if I can. Steve Ditko's world is filled with things from his memories growing up. Having studied him and other artists for half a century almost, I think I can enlighten you, Jack. In the days of yesterday, when Ditko was a wee lad, men used to put pomades and/or hair oils on their hair. They'd comb the oils throughout their hair to help their hair lay down properly, and the oils helped to prevent dandruff, and dry scalp. After applying the oil, and their hair dried, some men's hair tended to kink-up in wavy patterns similar to the look that Ditko drew for the hair of Norman Osborn and that of the Sandman. This hairstyling technique for men was very popular in the 1930's and '40s--the time period in which Steve Ditko grew up. Steve would have seen a lot of that sort of thing in his formative years. Naturally, Ditko often brought forth elements from memory--from his youth, injecting these things into THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and other comic book stories. Ever notice that the gangsters in Ditko's Spider-Man all seem to have suits with ties, and often wear hats? That's a '30's style gangster in a '60s comic book! That's all part of the Ditko magic. I doubt many gangsters looked like that in the 1960s, but in Ditko's universe, they all do! Likewise, guys still wear oiled-kinked hairstyles, have flat-tops and tiny Hitler mustaches! Aunt May had the "grandma" style hair in a bun. That still existed in the '60s though. It kind of died out in the '90s, actually. My grandmother had Aunt May's hair up until she passed away in 2007. She had it at least throughout the 1970s onward though. As always, I love these price guides! You know that I had to modify my Green Goblin and Hobgoblin figures, and I do believe that I improved on what Hasbro offered. I'm still waiting for perfect executions of certain characters in the Marvel Legends line. I'm not convinced that Hasbro has ever given us a 100% effort on any of the Goblin characters. The gliders are way too small, and don't have the bat wing looks of the comic versions, for instance.
As always you hit me with some fantastic history/knowledge! It definitely makes sense when you explain it that way, but obviously I didn't think of it that way. At first I was going to disagree about the 100% effort, but you make a really solid point on the gliders. I think the best one they've done is the Demogoblin, but even then, we still need a classic Green or Hob to get that treatment! And I'm not sure if you're following any current stories, but recently Norman became the Golden Goblin as a hero! I don't think it lasted very long, but it's an interesting look and a huge departure from the villainous Green Goblin look so it would be fun to see Hasbro take a crack at it.
Solid idea! Which goblins do you have? I'm curious if they'll be making the Golden Goblin. He only debuted in the past year so it might be too early to tell though. But it's a fun idea!
@@ComicallyToys I have both retro GG & HG. I don't know much about the new Spiderman comics so I'm going to look that goblin up. I kind of lost interest after Maximum Carnage. I'm digging your videos, good sir.
@@X-treme_13 Nice! Yeah I know it can be hard to want to get back into comics because of how much things change. For me I try to just read in short bursts of storylines that look interesting so I don't get too hyped up for things. Even then some stories end up being kind of disappointing like Venomverse... Anyway! I appreciate your support! Definitely let me know if you ever have any kinds of questions I might be able to answer about the Legends line since I really have a LOT of them! 😁😁😁
Actually, Retro Green Goblin's glider has the hole for the flight stand Demogoblin's glider came with. The newest Green Goblin (from the two-pack with MJ) also has that option. Probably yet another reason why this Goblin is pricey. I really wish Hasbro gave that option to the Hobgoblin's glider but NOPE. So funny though Hasbro did have the presence of mind for Norman's glider when updating it.
Sure enough you're right! I just checked and saw it. It's so silly to me that they added it, but didn't include the stand... I just can't understand Hasbro's decisions a lot of the time haha
Hasbro gonna Hasbro. I'm just wondering why not include the flight stand for purchase by itself? Oh... we have to get a speeder bike, an extra Demogoblin glider, or currently Hawkeye with the cycle to attain one. Ugh.
OPAQUE means "NOT able to be seen through. NOT transparent." You used that word wrong SO MANY TIMES that I had to comment on a 10 month old video
🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the comment? Hahaha
