I got so invested watching this episode that I let it runnnnnn 👀 copyright was a MAJOR issue for me with this one, so I apologize in advance for the random mutes, etc. I tried my best!
Not surprising, this was quite a good episode, and other animes and movies would setup that a random group of people are starting to get attached to each other, but here they are fully getting attached at this early stages and the best part is that they don't fully know it's happening.
Hey, first of all am a huge fan of your videos, discovered you through Haikyu, now SpyxFamily. Thanks for all the amazing content you're providing. Also this is supposed to be first world war period in case nobody answered.
cant even blame you Sarah, sometimes you just get sucked in to the show that you forget.🤣 oh, and one more thing the anime takes place during the cold war era.
Anya is much smaller than her classmates and is considerably less mature (even if the Eden course is ridiculously difficult already). She’s almost certainly younger than 6. She is intelligent, but she’s still just developmentally less mature.
@@andrewli6606 I wouldn’t call her "much smaller." She's like an inch or two smaller if I were to estimate. Her maturity level is debatable, not to mention how much kids vary in that regard. I agree it's likely she is younger, but my point is we don't know, and probably won't know until the mysteries of Anya's past get revealed.
the reason why loid doesnt pick up on anya reading his mind is because of the spy show she watches on tv. thats where he assumes she get all those weird sentences and thoughts from
One little detail that doesn't translate well: Anya always refers to Yor as "haha"(which is one of the Japanese terms for "mom"), just as she refers to Loid as "chichi"(same for "Dad"). At about 21:00, when the jerk asks Anya about her real mother, and she stars crying, she says "Mama". Just underlining that she's (likely) referring to and thinking about her original mother. It's not a big deal that it doesn't translate well, because the meaning of Anya's reaction is plain enough anyway, but I just love the reinforcement of it through Anya's speech habits.
Yes, this! I have always had issues with the subtitles over this point, because haha doesn’t translate to mama or mom at all! In Japanese it is a word you’d use when talking =about= your own mother, and never used when addressing them. A more direct translation that gets the nuance across better of how weird it sounds in Japanese would be if Anya always said something like “Hello, my mother, how are you?” Then, in this episode when she is being interviewed, most children would say “Mom is a very kind person”, she says “My mother is a very kind person” which, by sheer coincidence, makes her sound very mature and sophisticated for her age! … and then there’s the “ma…ma” bit you mentioned. Suddenly having Anya react and speak like a regular kid (even if just for one word) is really powerful - and almost completely lost in translation.
Usually, in scenes like this a picture frame breaks when it falls, but they showed it in that episode that even if the portrait fell it's still intact. Symbolizing that no matter how hard the challenge they may encounter in the future, their family will stay together.
I tried for many years to get my wife into anime. This is the first one she got hooked on. She even bought a t-shirt. She's trying her best to not buy the manga and get caught up 😅
I think everyone who sees this episode wants to personally punch Mr. Swan in the face. He was so unnecessarily cruel. I'm glad that both Yor and Loid stood up for Anya, when it was clear she was hurting. I love them all so much. Also, good on the housemaster to stand up for the elegance and principles that he stands for.
The two countries in this show represent the two seperated german countries during the time of cold war. It is probably set in the late 1960s. Some details of this country in the show are very historically accurate, while others are hilariously wrong.
Little fun note! During the interview the jerk would offhandedly refer to Yor as more of a presence or as an attachment to Loid as a second wife-nevery truly acknowledging her as an individual. The kinder, older man referred to her as _Okaasama_ which given the instance and the grammar by which it's being used is him addressing Yor as "The Esteemed Mother (of the Forger family)".
Whoa, I got here so fast on accident lol! About to watch the video, but just hopping in here to say thank you so much for these videos, Sarah! It's such a good time to see you enjoying these shows and really getting into them. Your channel brings a lot of comfort and laughter. Can't wait to see more!
I finally found a reactor who has noticed Yor ready to go savaga mama bear with her hand, no one has commented on it before because of Loid's reaction, but OH LORD that scene was the best for me, she's just there thinking "yeah you can die it won't matter." and it's perfect!
don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but a neat thing about the family photo falling down at the end is that usually the glass will break or crack, which would be a bad omen, but in this case even though the picture fell, it didn't break! so while they may go through some tough times, they'll be okay in the end 😂
I finally got the notification! But don't be so hard on yourself Sarah! Just because you're from a Blue Collar community doesn't mean anything! And what I love about Twilight is that despite being a spy and despite him saying he can be the perfect person in front of everyone and could've easily said something to appease Swan (The sexist dude), Loid didn't do that and he felt to his very core that what Swan was saying wasn't right. And he couldn't stand Swan slandering Anya's parentage either which really shows his true character. Which is a good person. And Master Henderson is the man!
yeah ...... this is 50s east germany so woman had rights on paper and most of them worked (unlike the west) ....... still the traditional family was still a thing the same goes for the prusian values of diciplin, order and tidiness
lately a big part of my routine after a long day consists of watching your amazing reactions while having a snack. I love it so much!! and I am so glad you have picked amazing shows to watch! haikyuu has my heart and spy family has made its way into my very own love house heheh.
I love how seamlessly they got into their roles. They’re a bunch of weirdos but golly are they perfect for each other in living a good life. That dude should’ve lost teeth with his smart mouth, no wonder his wife dipped. Not sorry.

Remember that Anya is pretending to be 6 this entire time😂
Yeah, she's actually 4 right? She's just pretending cuz she read Twilight pondering on needing someone who's at least 6.
@@UCpkYRJqLxnyFOA It might never be clarified, but I really want to think she's pretending to be 6 all along.
@@Acatia2 we don't know, Anya might not even know. Twilight guessed she was 4 or 5, but that's all we have.

And when it comes to the name of the principal, she was starting to say it before reading his mind.
When she said "he is downstairs and can hear everything i'm saying"
I was fully expecting to hear a scream like "no i cannot" or something like that
If i was in this situation i will definitely said that 😆
The beauty of this show is how slow but surely Anya is melting their hearts, specially Loid's ❤

Yup, the glass did NOT shatter. The breaking glass is the bad omen. This is an omen of the family's strength under adversity.
I tried for many years to get my wife into anime. This is the first one she got hooked on. She even bought a t-shirt. She's trying her best to not buy the manga and get caught up 😅

Notice the cups on the table are now close together whereas before they were separated on the table.
That punch was elegance in its purest form.🧐
Yes ... Cold war era.
"It is the 50's more or less"
Although Spy x Family is set in a fictional world, it is very much based off Cold War Europe, so it being around 1950s or 1960s would be accurate.
The two countries in this show represent the two seperated german countries during the time of cold war. It is probably set in the late 1960s.

They aren't Germany it's based on it but it's never meant to be that.
I love this show so much that both outro songs, Shikisai and Comedy are in my non anime playlist. I just love hearing them.
I like to see that you really are invested and that you truly care about the series.

That was very elegant punch by the instructor 😂
21:42
The Pavan Pause strikes again! 🤣
27:24 - Not usually the best sign, but notice, the frame and glass didn't break. That's a deliberate choice.
27:49 This caught me off guard I thought we were on a later episode when she mentioned their "bond" was growing ☺
Great reaction, this episode always makes me cry, so strong.
