    I've said it several times... I love 😍 the little screen the NucDeck has and the bootloader you show at the beginning of the video .
    Beautiful job!!

      I do like the screen, still considering if I'd do it again though as it's a bit more work. I've worked out a way to handle battery management through the PC now so I can go without it if I choose. And that's just the intro screen of steam big picture mode. It is cool though!

    Man this is such a fun project to follow, you’ve done so much from scratch!
    That quick shortcut menu is such a good idea with that alt+f4 haha

      Thanks!
      And yes, I've found that shortcut very useful!

    thank you dan I have been following this project since the start.

    Also love to see your smiling face in the reflection! Hope youre new office is much nicer to work in

      Was trying to avoid seeing anything in the reflection. I might have to make some sort of shield to place around the lens when I try this next. The new office is much better. I filmed and edited all of this yesterday, on the hottest day we've had this year. Was very glad I have the AC up and running in the office now!

    i hope you make another DIY handheld gameboy SP style.

      I've never done a hinged style portable before. It won't be the next project since I've already begun planning it, but its definitely something I'll keep in mind!

    Can't wait to build my own! I have a Nuc11TNKi3 laying around collecting dust :)
    So I guess I have to be a little more patient

      Its almost done, I promise! I've got a pretty much complete revision of the next power management pcb here that should be ready to go very soon. Might be slowed down a bit by chinese new year though but I'll do my best to get it all together quickly when it gets here!

    Do you have any tips for designing a handheld? I got quite an unique idea for software, but just dont know where to start with the parts.

    • @cncdan
      @cncdan  11 месяцев назад +1

      This is something I plan to cover in a bit more depth on the next project. I'd already done most of the design work for this one before I started making videos. To give you the best answer here I can, I start out by picking a set of components and drawing them roughly in CAD (if they don't have models already available). Then I mix and match parts until I have something that will work and I start shaping the housing around that. From there it's just a matter of hollowing everything out, including mounting points for hardware and ensuring there's adequate clearance for everything.

      @@cncdan Thanks! Ill be watching the next project then too when it gets uploaded.

    Do you have an approximate price, if one wants to build one. I haven't seen you have mentioned anything. But I could har missed it.. Keep up the amazing work you put in :)

      So I priced out everything besides the case, PCB and nuc, and it all comes in to just about $50 USD not including shipping, so if you pick up a cheap nuc (off Facebook marketplace or something similar) like I did so far my NucDeck is setting me back $170 USD

    • @cncdan
      @cncdan  11 месяцев назад +2

      The PCBs will add a reasonable chunk to that cost too, but hopefully still not too bad. I'll work out a total cost once the BMS is complete!

    Nice work man! What do you think about building ome with something like minisforum um680/um780? It has MUCH faster gpu, so it will handle all games a lot better

    Could this be the size of the switch? minus the thumbsticks etc? Some of the switch accessories are kind of perfect

    • @cncdan
      @cncdan  11 месяцев назад

      Nah, unfortunately it's significantly larger than a switch. The overall dimensions are roughly the same as a steamdeck

    • @cncdan
      @cncdan  10 месяцев назад

      This sort of is a tutorial. Once I've got the battery management sorted, all the files needed to build one will be up on the GitHub page. There's already a fairly detailed assembly guide there. I'll be adding some info about electrical connections once it's all complete too.

    Dan, you're too hard on your fighting game prowess, if you're having a good time that's all that matters, besides I think what gaming skill you might lack, you more than make up for in technical and engineering experience!
    I know if it were me, I'd much rather be able to build and design something like the NucDeck than be able to punch better in fighting games!
    I love this series, I have the exact same nuc as you and am just waiting for the final Rev to start building my own deck!
    See you on your Discord!

    • @cncdan
      @cncdan  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I've never really been into fighting games, so I have no real experience playing them. And yeah, I figured people were coming here for the design/build aspect of it but still some people want to comment on my gaming ability. I'm sure I could be good if I wasn't spending all my spare time building things instead. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make 😁

      I had to pick something that was cheap enough to justify possibly throwing it out in case I damaged it. If I was to do it again, I'd pick one of the many AMD mini pc's that are now available!
