- Have you ever wondered what a $300 solid state Line 6 amp would sound like with $600 worth of Electro-Voice EVM12 speakers? I definitely did, but was surprised at the outcome.

I like the Flextone 2 stock speakers with the combo on the floor. I also off the bass knob on the rectified model. Sometimes I unplug the speakers and power them with a Bassman head in parallel at 4 ohms. I tried greenback g12m and Eminence 70 in their respective boxes, both sealed and open with the flextone. All 4 going with 3 amp is fun stuff.
Nice! That's a really creative use of the Bassman! thanks for the comment, and glad to hear someone else likes messing around with these!!
The models in the amp's brain were calibrated for those (Eminence-made) specific speakers. You might find pleasing results with different speakers, or you might not. You might in particular try the different cab-sim options on the Flextone to see how they pair with the alt-speakers. Sometimes the cab-sim's response might compliment the alt set, while others they might over or under emphasize something. I wouldn't do it, as changing the cab-sim settings on a Flextone already gives you tons of speaker personalities to play with (Plexi through a Champ cab? SURE!). OTOH, if you dig the results, go for it.
Thanks, @LaminatorX, that's exactly the same conclusion i drew. The stock Eminence speakers probably wouldn't work well in another cab/amp situation, but they are matched really well for this amp. It's always fun to just play around with speaker config and see what sounds can be made! Thanks again!
I picked one up for 100 bucks from Pawn shop good amp good for plug n play gigs
Thanks for the comment, @Acducec, I couldn't agree more. This amp can be scored in most local market places for around $100 and it has plenty of volume for any gig, and plenty of tones to dial in pretty much any style of music. Really nice products from Line 6 at this era.
Hey maybe some Celeste speakers would sound better the the line 6 speakers ??
@davudratibez6345, I think you're probably correct, this amp would benefit from a darker sounding speaker, like a Creamback. I should have tried it before selling this amp, but one of my buddies needed it and I had to let it go! I've also been told and have read that these modelling amps aren't built for anything but the stock speakers, so it's possible the tonal experience wouldn't work out, but I did think that Celestion speakers would do well in this amp. Thanks for the comment!
I know this is an old video but its new to me but i wanted to know if you would ever try peavey scorpion speakers in this amp as im curious how it would sound as i like the scorpion speakers alot, anyway thank you for the video i found it pretty cool
@RichardBoling-tk4pj I just sold this amp recently, so if I could, i would, as i have 4 Scorpions laying around. I've put the Scorpions in 2x12 cabs, 1x12 cabs, 4x12 cabs, and i think they do best in 2x12 cabs. I'm not sure why, but they do well with open back cabs. Let me know if you have anything specific you'd like to see with these and i'll try my best to make it happen.
@@tjkcivic ok thank you i like your videos and hope your channel gets bigger but i just found your channel but its as good as people that make a complete living off their channels keep up the great work man
@@tjkcivic also sorry to bother you but you are a much better guitarist than me and have much more gear i have been wondering about the flextone amps never had one but like what ive heard but i also love the teal stripe Peavey bandit i own if you had to choose one or the other just for a hard rock brpwn sound type tone which do you prefer for that application if the flextone was a 112 or the bandit was a 212 as to keep things fair,as ill never sell my teal stripe but like all types of amps and want to buy another one just to have and play through and that 80s brown sound is the sound i look mainly and happy with the Bandit for that job but want a flextone also and just curious which would do that better in your opinion
Thanks @RichardBoling-tk4-pj. i have more gear than talent, but i just love exploring new gear, so it works out!
I've been looking for a silver-edge 1x12 Bandit for under 200$ for a while, but those have gone through the roof in the last 5 years. I'd recommend the Bandit in most cases, because the sound is so good and easy to dial in. The Flextone has a LOT of sounds to choose from, so you can get lost finding the right sound. But once you find it, it's good to go, and loud as hell. I'm a Peavey-guy first and foremost, so i'll recommend Peavey 9 times out of 10 for amps. If you get a chance to check out the Peavey Encore 65, it is a tube amp that goes head to head with the Bandit 65 and is also a ton of fun.
@@tjkcivic ok thank you for your input as since buying the Bandit and how good it is as before this amp i never was happy with none of my amps before but instantly bonded with the Peavey so i now am a Peavey fan,but in the past ive had a solid state marshall 112 from the 90s which i liked but my buddies crate amp with an 8 inch speaker sounded better on gain which pissed me off as i spent 6 times what he did on the Marshall but the Peavey is the best amp ive owned but so far never owned a tube amp,i owned the Katana after the hype and never gelled with it as im a plug and play guy not a let me jump on a computer to download my amp lol, i just want to turn knobs and play not hook my amp to a computer for full features, ine of the reasons why with all the models and effects makes the line 6 look favorable and sturdy these new amp modelers i believe will go dead in their digital computers in a few years and be more expensive to get fixed then they are worth so i like old school amps that will last a lifetime
Thanks for confirming for me. I've got the 300 watt head. I'm planning on swapping out the 4 line 6 12"s in it now, probably Celestions. 2 cabs and its gonna scream.
I gotta say, those Line 6 Speakers sound better than i thought, but if you put some heavy mag Celestions, it will rock the house!
Are they red tube tones?
Can you put one 70watt be put in there
I replied to your previous comment, but i believe you can put a single 70 watt speaker in one spot, because the channels are separated in order to be stereo. I think you'd probably want to put another speaker in the other hole, just to prevent the air pressure from blowing out the front. Let me know how it goes!
@tjkcivic Okay thanks I just put cardboard behind it and it sounds good still think my speakers are bad
Damn, bummer on the speakers, but glad you got it working ok!
@tjkcivic yeah hopefully I can get 2 new one's for it it's the same amp as your showing
Need any help thanks
You probably could, each side should be 50 watts.
I put an Altec Lancing 417 series in mine
Thanks for the comment, @treborkciddur. How'd did the Altecs sound? I have been trying to get my hands on the 15" version of those for a while for a different cab i have, but that's a good combo!
@@tjkcivic it’s super bright, almost have to turn it to the wall cuz it bites so hard. Be awesome for a country player. I use it coupled with my JVM and get killer cleans that cut through, and really full distortion with the Marshall giving it the definition it need’s with those super saturated tones you can get from the flextone
It sounds seriously DISGUSTING
