Blogging for blogging's sake isn't a bad road either. You said that it takes 2-3 years if you're grinding to really get some traction - so you better like the process if you're going to commit. I started my blog 2 months ago just chronicling my home buying experience in a foreign country, what it's like as an American expat, and eventually building my garden. It keeps my family and friends informed so I don't have to tell the same stories over and over. It's also therapy and reflection. Haven't even thought about monetization. I'm diggin this channel, Kevin. I hope you keep it up.
Yeah I'm totally with you, blogging for blogging sake is probably the entire reason it was invented 😂 weirdoes like me tried to make it into a business. Love your blog chronicle!
@@kevinmespiritu you're not a weirdo! I'm just a newbie and I'm sure I'll monetize it if/when the time is right. In the mean time, I'm enjoying learning from you!
I'm here, only found this channel a few days ago, glad I did. I started and abandoned so many blogs over the last 15 years (yes), I found the writing experience torturous but I wish I stuck with it and honed the craft just for the love of it. I think today, the culture has totally changed, we've been engineered into consuming short content very quickly and lots of it so we just don't have the attention span to read through 500 word articles and all the labour and love put into crafting your words are likely to be lost on an audience of word skimmers who are also checking their tik tok and instagram while skimming your article.
Really grateful for that tip. I was curious whether or not I should: A) restart my blog that I dropped back in 2017 or B) write courses and make videos that the blog would have covered. So I'm glad to see B is a clear solution. Thanks!
Still here! I'm considering starting a blog partly because I like writing, and I like explaining how/why I do the things I do. I don't need for it to pay, though that would be nice. Part of what's holding me back is trying to figure out what to focus on, because I do a lot of different things, and the other part is that I have half a dozen chronic illnesses that don't play well with each other and I am a parent, so I get sick a lot and that means I have to pare down what I do each day to basic survival, so I would want to have at least half a dozen to a dozen posts already written before I go live, so that if I can't write one week, I can still post something. I'd be interested in hearing more about SEO and hashtags, at least for instagram, and what's your take on how specialized/how generalized things need to be, and having a pile of ready-to-go posts standing by?
Great channel!! Thanks for all the advice!! I started a blog to share some knowledge that is helpful to my audience and I link my products on there. Just trying to generate some traffic and make some sales.
Curious if you think there will be a movement back to blogs because of the way Facebook/Instagram has become "pay to play" more and more. On our Instagram page we've noticed that our content doesn't even reach all the people following our page anymore so we're looking at new ways to at least get the content seen.
Totally here!! And, so glad you are too! I know the subs are small on this channel compared to your others - but WAY glad thus far, you are not dis-incentivized (is that a word?) to continue to add content. Cuz, I love this discussion too. I once was interested in blogging and dabbled here/there - but I believe, to your point, it's a hard animal to whip. With TikTok, Insta, and other similar type platforms, the short, snappy vids are the current way forward. "I need 1-3 minutes of right now". You have become a master at that. Truly. The thing I love about what you're doing here? Is that you continually message - NONE of it comes without work and hustle. I love that you don't shy from that. In fact, you smack it right in the face. You want it? You gonna have to work it. Plain and simple. Thanks Epic-Kev-dog ... this is good stuff.
I’m here! Can you go over the generic strategy you followed when scaling your blog? I.e wrote content myself years 1-2, made enough to hire 1-2 writers in year 3, etc. would love to hear more about experience specifically!
@@kevinmespiritu Really appreciating how knowledgeable you are! The internet has changed a great many things, including business! But when you explain it, it doesn't seem as crazy 🥴🙃
Hi Kevin! You're the model of blogging success the good folks of Authority Hacker speak of. With the presence of AI, has that changed your opinion of starting a blog in 2024? What would you do differently if you were starting over today, Blog or RUclips? Thanks!

Solid stuff! Here, and listening closely.

I'll see if I can add some more IG specific content soon!
@@kevinmespiritu thanks!
I'm here! 🙂
😄
Please talk more about it.
Still here. Just started my blog about a month ago. It's going to be a long road but hopefully in a year or so it would be worth it.
Congrats! Good luck with the journey

For sure, but not the same way. You'll see people build audiences to paid or free newsletters like substack
🤗

Yup, if you are just starting out, I'm highly bullish on mastering short form video FIRST, then moving your audience elsehwere.

We don't run any AI if that's what you mean! We still use 100% human, garden experienced writers.
