Hello Doug, I want to do an initial configuration with windows device and use Vimeo with specific streaming key. When I shut down the device, disconnect power supply and use it again several days or weeks later, is the initial Vimeo setup (URL and Key) i did at first use still saved on the device or do I need to configure it again with the Windows device? I want to use the same Vimeo URL and streaming Key again and again for recurring streaming events. If yes, do I only need to push ON AIR button after starting the device? many thanks!
For people using Constellations, other switchers that don’t have internal streaming capabilities, or video sources other than video switchers, like cameras or computers. Or 4K sources. There are a lot of reasons.
Those are two different products. The original Web Presenter (without a screen) is really more of a USB capture device. It doesn't actually stream out to the Internet at all on its own, and requires a computer and streaming software (like OBS) or conferencing software (like Zoom) to make it work. The second version (Web Presenter HD or Web Presenter 4K), with the screen, can do the necessary encoding to stream to RTMP (and now SRT) servers like RUclips, Twitch, etc. over Ethernet or through a phone using USB.The USB connection can also be used to generate a webcam-compatible signal as well. It also added a very helpful status screen through its Monitor outputs.
I'm using it as a capture device and the same time sdi loop out to my switch. However is it possible to obtain a clean feed in HDMI, without any of informations playing along?
Great video. Thanks. Question, when multiple channels of audio are present, can you select wich channel is the one used for the stream? or will they allways be channel 1 and 2?

⚠ Extremely basic question alert!!⚠ Why, in simple terms, would I actually *need* one of these devices, rather than running a live stream via YT (or whatever) straight over my internet connection? A bit of context: I am a teacher running weekly classes over Zoom. A few students' internet connections are occasionally poor, such that they have to disconnect, and reconnect. Occasionally, they miss the session completely and catch up by watching a recording. Would one of these reduce these kinds of occurrences? Is this device not simply 'steadying' the connection from the streamer's end? Am I right in thinking it has no bearing at all on the audience end? In summary, how does the Web Presenter improve on a regular live stream over YT?
These are designed to get video from a video production system out to a streaming site. If you already have a solution for getting video to a site like RUclips, you don't need it. This is for people who want to use a piece of hardware to stream instead of doing it through a piece of software running on a computer. It does not help with issues on the viewer's end.
While it's entirely possible that the Web Presenter is the cause, it could also be the streaming service as well. Or an issue with the combination of the two. I've done multi-hour streams without an audio sync issue before, so whatever is going on likely isn't a bug that happens all the time.
Yes... and no. HLG is meant to be transparent and pass through a typical Rec.709 workflow. So the Web Presenter treats it like any other 709 video source. It doesn't "expand" it out to its full dynamic range and convert it to Rec.2020 so it gets treated like an HDR source, for example. So the video will go through it and look relatively normal. But it won't be HDR.
@@djp_video Thank you for your response. The actual requirement is to use HLG and S-LOG3 color space video signals as input sources. We want the Black Magic Web Presenter HD to act as a color space converter, or if it can load LUTs. This way, we can map the wide color space of video equipment to Rec.709 during live broadcasts, achieving better picture quality.
The Web Presenter itself does not have the ability to do color space conversions. And it does not have the ability to load and process a LUT. You'd need a separate box for that. The least expensive Blackmagic Design products that can do that are the SDI-to-HDMI Micro Converters... the 3G model can take a 17-point LUT while the 12G model can take a 33-point LUT. Both will allow you to apply the LUT at the SDI or HDMI output. djp.li/12gmicro Aside from that, my own experience (and that of quite a few of my viewers) is that the Web Presenter can be quite unreliable. Hola Doug! Do you know if it is possible to use the wirecast to produce a show (credits, videos, banners) and do the encoding to facebook or youtube only through the web presenter hd, how would the connection of the wirecast output to the web presenter hd be so that it receives it from SDI? Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia
I believe so. I haven't done it myself, but it does seem that Wirecast can output to a DeckLink or UltraStudio device and the output of that can be sent to the Web Presenter.
Probably for space reasons. Ultimately most people will have the program audio embedded into the video anyway (for recording, distribution, etc.) so I have a feeling the XLRs weren’t being used that much
Coming out of my ATEM Constellation 2M/E, why do I need this for streaming instead of going into a computer to stream? I’ve been looking for a video explaining why I need a hardware encoder. Help! Thanks! Love the videos!
A few reasons, but the big one is that you're not tying up an expensive computer to do your video encoding. When streaming with a computer you really shouldn't use it for anything else. Most computers capable of doing high quality video encoding are more expensive than a proper video encoder, so you can actually save money (as opposed to having two computers if you still need to use one while streaming). In the case of connecting to an ATEM over USB, the video quality with a hardware encoder is going to be significantly better. The USB output of the ATEMs isn't very good... the overall exposure is significantly wrong, colors are off, and much of the picture detail is lost. The ATEM output is designed to be used with Zoom, Teams, and low-quality video conferencing, not live streaming. The other reason, which doesn't apply to the Web Presenter, is that many hardware encoders (VidiU, LiveU, and others) can bond multiple internet connections together to give you some redundancy and additional bandwidth for a higher quality stream. While there are some software solutions out there to merge multiple connections, from what I've heard from the community, none of them work very well for live video streaming. Yet another is size and battery life. Many video encoders can be placed atop a camera in a cold/hot shoe so they can be used when you want to stream without a whole switcher setup.
Is there any difference in the streaming of this versus the ATEM Pros? I'm assuming it's the same tech. I understand that this has a lot more information about the stream and such on the monitor out. Basically, I have an SDI Extreme and just wondering if this would be a useful upgrade or not. Thanks... JJ

I do have the 4K version. Aside from handling 4K video it is identical to the HD version. You need a custom XML file for each service that you’re streaming to. One file per server essentially. If only the stream key changes you don’t need a new file, but if the RTMP server changes you would need to customize the XML. A Windows or Mac computer is needed to upload an XML file. Can you stream with Blackmagic to a webpage directly without using RUclips, Vimeo, Facebook etc. Just send the video to a page for and bypass any third parties?

I’ve been having issues with the ATEM 4k and the VidiU Go, with random audio issues. Not sure if it’s the unit or the update.. anyways, looking at this purchase now. What is the latency or delay compared to the VidiU?
Not directly from a single Web Presenter. There are plenty of services out there that will receive an RTMP stream and distribute it to multiple destinations, though, and the Web Presenter will work with those if you create a custom XML file for those services. Here on my channel I have a video on how to setup your own RTMP server that you could use to do this yourself.
Not officially. There is software out there to expose the Instagram RTMP data so you could use this, but you really shouldn't... if Instagram detects that you're streaming from anything other than their app they are likely to ban your account.
@@djp_video Wow I never knew that! No wonder apps like Ecamm Live and others still don’t offer Instagram Live access. Only RUclips & Facebook Live. I hope this changes soon. Its strange because Facebook allows it, and they own Instagram, but won’t allow the same access to live streaming. 🤔

Question: can you simultaneously stream to multiple destinations like FB and a custom destination?
Not directly from a single Web Presenter. There are plenty of services out there that will receive an RTMP stream and distribute it to multiple destinations, though, and the Web Presenter will work with those if you create a custom XML file for those services. Here on my channel I have a video on how to setup your own RTMP server that you could use to do this yourself.
@DJP is it a good idea to connect this device to AVMATRIX VS0601U
Mini 6CH SDI/HDMI Multi-format Stream Switcher ?
Thanks for you video
That combination should work well.
Kind regards, Mr Johnson
Could this equipment be used to make live broadcasts on instagram?
Not officially. There is software out there to expose the Instagram RTMP data so you could use this, but you really shouldn't... if Instagram detects that you're streaming from anything other than their app they are likely to ban your account.
@@djp_video Wow I never knew that! No wonder apps like Ecamm Live and others still don’t offer Instagram Live access. Only RUclips & Facebook Live. I hope this changes soon. Its strange because Facebook allows it, and they own Instagram, but won’t allow the same access to live streaming. 🤔
Hey Doug, I just picked up the web presenter 4K! Is it me, or is the HDMI output is very crapy? Even watching it on an HD monitor the edges look very jagged. Have you noticed the same thing?
I haven’t gotten my 4K version yet to test it
Hi Doug, can this encoder monitor the bandwith of the internet connection and reduce the bitrate automaticly if the bandwith gets to low?
Due this feature i was using OBS in some of my last projects, but i don't feel save with software based encoding....
No, it does not.
Shame it doesnt include xlr anymore
Hello, I am looking for a hardware encoder that is GOOD for 1080p game streaming scenarions for Twitch. I already have an Atem Mini Pro, which has a pool quality for fast gameplay. Currently, I do encode in X264 slow or nvenc very high for quality. I am looking for something externalm to not overload the streaming PC. Thank you for your thoughts. P.S. I love your content!!!!!
Bonding networks should now become a standard in encoders IMO!! Nobody wants to spend $$$ and then realise that network goes down and you’re down too until you switch over!!
you may want to use a bonding network router instead, things that do only one function well are usually more stable. patton has the BD004 for that exact purpose
@@AmauryJacquot Well I agree with your point. BUT that's one more 1U rack space occupied. And for guys like us with a portable rack/rig that's one more unit to configure and keep in check.
@@musicxsam1 you could also use a raspberry pi, that should be powerfull enough to manage a few vpns out through various links and bonding them all
you can always go for LiveU solo or their higher end encoders.....it is a standard for pro doing live projects.
You mentioned multiple audio channels embedded. Can you actually select wich channels to be usede for the stream? or the will they always be 1 and 2?
Hello Doug,
I saw you talked about XML files to stream to other streaming servers than preset. Can i use to private rtmp servers with password and username, etc?
Actually I am using vMix to stream and I get RTMP, Key, Username and Password. Can I set all these in the Web Presenter XML file?
You can do your own custom servers, but I’m not sure about setting authentication information.
Really want to watch this video but RUclips is becoming impossible with these 10 minute adverts.
