    I bought the deflector when we bought the car, 4 years ago. I have kept it around and had lost the hardware until today! I decided to watch someone install it because I knew it would take me a while to get it all figured out.
    Anyways, I watched the whole video and laughed because the same stuff happens to me all the time.
    Psssh. I'm not putting it on the car! My wife doesn't even want it.
    Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for the video. I took your advice and put a blanket over the engine. I dropped the same white piece that you dropped. It fell through the hole created by folding the blanket around the hood prop rod! Of course it did! Fortunately, I was able to retrieve it by loosening the bottom shield and reaching in. I felt like a moron for not ensuring the blanket fit tightly around the hood prop rod. Anyway, mission accomplished.

    Dude, thank you so much for this video. I put the towel across the engine bay just like you said, but I still managed to lose a screw. Looked everywhere for an hour. Even used a metal detector and called for backup (wife). Nothing. Went to Subaru. They didn't have loose screws but could order me a kit for $50 which included the one screw that I needed. I then went to Advanced Auto and found a similar screw in a multi pack for $8. Installed, all good. 3 months later I find the missing screw. In the bottom of my stupid shoe (Croc). Ugh!!

    Hey, Terry. I'm a new 2022 Forester Premium owner and a first-time visitor, and I liked your vid and subscribed to your channel. I came here to watch an installation, but also got a couple of big laughs (red circle around your stomach and you saying no more daily beer, and the frustration of dropping that backing down into your engine compartment -- no lie, while checking and adding oil on my son's Camry, I dropped the oil cap down into its engine compartment, never located it by sight, but had a hunch based on what I had heard that it was laying on top of one of the car's molded undercarriage plastic protectors and had to remove it to retrieve the cap. Ugh!
    It was coincidental that I found your channel and this video because I was just thinking about buying one of those hood deflectors for my Forester today. I never thought it would protect my windshield much, but would help protect against paint chipping off of the hood from road rocks/debris. Another coincidence, my wife and I were just talking about taking our very first road trip in my Forester to ... the Grand Canyon. How did your Forester do on your trip there with your family? Did you guys do any outdoor camping, or stay in a hotel/motel or something else? I'm trying to get some ideas, thanks! 🤜🤛

    Just installed today on my 2020 sport ice silver thanks to your video I laid down a bedsheet over my engine bay before installation. The instructions are so wack and your video helped me understand which way things went. Come to find out that same clip you lost I dropped like 4/5 times when I was tweaking it for install. I found out that you don't have to start from the bottom and twist upward to get the clips to lock. If you actually go all the way to the top and press the white clips in just as you did on those black clips on the brackets; then you can easily adjust it by sliding it directly down. If you twist the white clip while trying to adjust it down it will lose its firmness and fall out. I found that out on the second clip. Also, the marking is not necessary if you have it straight from the beginning. I ended up not marking because my marker was too fat to go inside the holes. I just reached under using my two index fingers and placed the tape where it went. The instructions tell you to do all these extra things when they could revise them to make it much easier.

      @@Lucrativesoldier Also can you speak on your ready lift? It's between that and ADF/LP adventure for me. How does it ride with your tires compared to stock? As far as ride quality and performance. What about road noise and fuel economy? I'm set on the same tire set up as you for right now until I upgrade the wheels. What was the reason you went with ready lift was it just price?

    • @Lucrativesoldier
      @Lucrativesoldier  3 года назад +1

      @@MrMarkmill I was torn between the two also, even with people recommending LP over Ready Lift. But the huge price difference is what made me take the chance on RL. The RL lift is pretty solid, with a pretty stock ride quality. Of course you can't swing corners as fast, but it still handles a swerve with good control. With all that said, I have yet to do some serious off-roading with the lift, so that could be where the story changes. I'll have to take her out soon, and put her thru the test.

    Comparing your hood protector compared to a video I saw on an older model, the older model appeared to have a lip on the trailing edge that forces air upward which would probably offer more bug and stone deflection. Now I need to decide if I want to spend the $130. Funny thing, we are headed to Yellowstone also and beyond.

I haven’t had any windshield damage since my last windshield replacement, which I’ve had 2, but I think the windshield quality is better. My first replacement was thru the dealer. My second was thru Safelite, and doing the best. My opinion would be make the purchase for aesthetics, as I can’t assure it has added protection.

I assumed it would be the same ''its not" its the same oem subaru number but its not the same application. The Grooves? are placed differant. This video leaves out crucial info on were exactly, certain clips go to adhere properly ! This is not a simple task and as he mentioned no instructions included and no video available for a 2021. He does give it a good attempt but? he's not very precise and refers to holes but actually grooves ! Im mechanically inclined and had to make several alterations due to the cheap plastic pieces and does not give "Any extra" when you drop them and cant find. Overall, it dresses up the hood but? very time consuming, and i purchased for 99.00 total which i would not spend a penny more for plastic hardware mainly, and a subaru decal.....

    Yo, bro. What does the deflector do? Noise? Protection? I am on my second windshield and I froze every time something make a contact. Does the ceramic coating help?

    • @Lucrativesoldier
      @Lucrativesoldier  3 года назад +1

      Honestly, I think its just for looks. But I will say, I haven't had any windshield issues, since the last replacement. So not sure if its an improved windshield, or the result of adding the deflector. No audible change. Buy a windshield repair kit, and fill any chips when you get them. It will keep the windshield from cracking. And if you do a good job, you won't notice the chips in the windshield. The ceramic tint is on the inside of the windshield, so I don't think its helping in protecting the windshield, but I could be wrong. That is a good question...

    • @Lucrativesoldier
      @Lucrativesoldier  4 года назад +1

      Water can flow under, but you can't really clean underneath it without removing it. you probably have about an inch of space between the hood and deflector. I haven't really cleaned underneath it, but I just looked and it needs it, so ill be doing it next wash. lol. And personally, I don't think there are really any benefits to having it installed. After a 1200 mile road trip, my windshield didn't look any better then my parents windshield without the deflector.

    I've got a better idea, don't buy a bonnet protector. The instructions are pretty poor and it's not a straight forward job getting it on. You are more likely to damage the paintwork than stones and bugs would.

      @@Lucrativesoldier I added sound deadener to my doors, under my back bench seat and where the spare tire goes. Also sprayed a rubber liner in my wheel wells. resulted in like an 8% reduction in noise but big improvement in stereo quality and driving in gravel. The rubber liner helps the metallic clang on rocks hitting bear metal in wheel wells. I have a 2020 forester. Only need about 20sq ft of sound deadening product to do all that. and if you are doing the rubber spray in wheel wells need 1 whole can of the 3M stuff for each wheel well to do 3 layers.
