I haven't played in decades but i was just asking my wife about playing some cards tonight, which we never do and Spades was the first game that came to mind. Thanks for the refresher course.
While in Iraq in 2005 when we weren't on patrol this was our go to but we played it with two decks four players and played the joker joker duce version. We kept the tally, and despite only playing after combat patrols I think we managed to get up to 3000 points with no winner. Sadly we never finished that game as 2 of the players lost their lives while deployed. I still have that note pad to this day with the unfinished game. RIP Roy and Gilo.
It's all coming back to me,,, when I was 8-9 me and my grandma would stay up late on the weekends and play spades with watching criminal minds,,, I haven't played in so long.
I invented this version over 30 years ago with slightly different drawing rules. Quote from another post. "I invented a version of two handed spades over 30 years ago so I'd have something to play with my mom. And it is a very good and fun version. 1. Shuffle the deck and place it in the middle of the table. 2. Mom always has the choice to draw first or second. :) 3. Draw two cards face down onto the table and choose which card to look at. 4. If the looked at card is a spade the player must keep it and discard the other card without looking at it. 5. Otherwise you may discard the looked at card and keep the second card or visa versa. 6. After each player has made 13 selections just play like normal spades."
one player draws a card and then looks at it and decides if he wants to keep it or not if he does he looks at the next card and discards it, if he does not keep it he looks at the next card and keeps it, the opponent does the same then you do and you keep alternating doing this process until the deck is empty
I really need my people to be released from the shackles of stockholm syndrome. Not all black people went to jail. You can download a spades game & learn from there damn! 🤦🏽♀️
Great video...I play this but we do use our joker cards has the small and big joker being the higher cards.. but only the big joker trumps the small. And I always play my jokers last😊
Because spades were broken so you can start the trick with spades, but only after spades is broken.(When spades are played because they didn't have the original suit, and they decided to play a spade)
I've seen a version of this game where both players are allowed to see what goes into the discard pile, as the discarded cards are placed face up. What are the possible advantages or disadvantages of allowing both players to see the discards? I would think that seeing the discards would make it easier to bid correctly; am I right?
the problem is, if your memory is good enough, you can figure out exactly what cards your opponent has, as you've seen all the 39 other cards that are not in their hand
You could keep an eye out for the aces, kings and queens and all spades that go on the discard... considering those high cards are in the discard plus the ones you have in hand, you can get a pretty good idea of your opponents hand and predict how many tricks you could win more accurately
You can actually bid blind nil in this version. If you wish to do so, you must be trailing your opponent by at least 100 points and declare blind nil before you draw any cards from the deck.
This game doesn't look very exciting; In my mind, I thought spades had a different gameplay altogether. This is much like war except spades outranks any other suit and the bidding. I love playing rummy 500 but I'm looking for another fun card game, preferably a 2-player card game.
@@alliehollingsworth3466 well unless rummy 2500 is any different than 500, which I doubt, I've played it. I've played long rummy games, but it depends on how you score when the round is over. With what's left in hand when the round ends, some players give negative or deadwood based on the face card value or numbers, which is harder to count on the fly versus doing a 5 for numbered cards 10 for face cards and 15 for aces. I played long games in one sitting south rummy. But there again, the are a lot of variations to this game.
I pretty much got down everything but minute 1:07 “SETUP” building up your hands for, your cards? I’m a little confused on that part. Can anyone explain? Really want to learn how to play. Edit: So as I went back and forward, it pretty much sums up whether one will or won’t keep the card? Like will the card be beneficial or a waste? Is my speculation wrong?
@@danielfirman1273 Yes it is an option. Before any cards are drawn from the deck, a player can state they are bidding blind nil. Then that player would draw cards as if they were trying to bid nil.
@@ripamerica7600 yes but most people count blind nil as twice the score of a regular nil. It's usually only bid when your opponent has a huge lead and you have nothing to lose.
@@ripamerica7600 You're only allowed to declare blind nil when you're at least 100 points behind your opponent just like in the 4-player version of the game. Blind nil is a desperation move taken to attempt to catch up and hopefully steal the win.
If your turn and you lay down a heart then your opponent must to as well if he has one. If it isn't a heart then you when the trick. Assuming they have no spades
That's a lie spade's is higher cut any card if you don't have any more card's that others throw out including your partner or you can throw off if you're partner has the highest card

At one point the deck of cards got so beaten up we could tell what half the cards were by the markings
Same experience but we played dominoes. I think this is a universal grandpa trait :)
Last time I played I was in jail 10 years ago.i used to be pretty good at it.i totally forgot how to play since.good refresher!
In Newark, New Jersey we didn’t keep a point score, we counted “Books”
Huh? How does that work?
that's how we usually play it...checkin In from st. louis
Thank books not point from Great Lakes👌🏾
This is a great refresher for a game i loved as a kid and played often!
I don't get it
Just bust out a deck of cards and play along with the video until you get it.

That sounds a little harder, even tho I suck at remembering which cards i burned. I just try to remember how many spades i threw away.
Thanks for teaching me spades I want myself to play spades
does it have to be the same suite?
I've wanted to play spades ever since i heard of it! this was very helpful

I learned this shit in county but never knew how to keep score

Why does player 2 go first?
How many cards are drawn by each player
Each player should have 13 cards in hand after the drawing phase.

You got it right Jose. You either think the first card will be good for you, or you don't and take the second card.
What do we do with the discard cards
Nothing. A hand is 13 cards
If you are playing with 2 people how should you deal the cards,as in dealing the cards out
You don't deal you pick from the start only on 2 players
How do you start a 2handed Spade game
Good job
What do I do with the extra pile of cards ?
julia Provence The extra pile is just pushed to the side
nothing
How many cards
How does 4 spades outrank diamond king ?
So when someone is picking cards, what would be the ideal way to do it? Also, can someone explain when you have to both put cards in the middle. Thank

What is a bid
A bid in card games is a proposal of how many tricks or points you'll win in a particular hand. Different games treat bidding differently.
