    I have played this organ many times. The sound is mind blowing. The organ is being fully restored after decades of neglect. There are 455 ranks of pipes. Donate to the Historical Organ Restoration Committee, even just a few dollars. It all goes to the organ as work is all voluntary. The world needs to hear this organ playing again. It is truly a magnificent instrument.

Why can't someone with Bill Gates or Donald Trump amounts of $$$$$$ just thrown enough money at them to get all the materials and people they need to get it done quick as possible, then establish a fund to maintain the organ and building?

    Interesting-I went on an organ crawl of the largest church organ at the 1st Congregational Church in Los Angeles. I purposely asked the engineer how much horsepower total the blowers had-35-compared to the (to be exact) 667hp of the Convention Hall Organ-just a bit of difference in power!

    • @cchrisr1964
      @cchrisr1964 9 лет назад

      Yes, your explanation is far better than any I have received to date.
      I know that I have seen a stop pulled and several keys remotely depresessed at the same time; but what I wasn't sue how the person who built links would know how (the would be) Chord would sound when played with the other manuals, together with pedals. I beleive I am right that some of the dampers control the pedal section as well. Is that right?
      When writing for a multiple manual organ, I know that there are thre cleffs, the bottom one being the "pedal cleff". How would the composer know which links provide the correct chords and the depth of those chords?
      As an example if there is a Chord which has a "tied Breve" (i.e. a note with a value of 16 beats) , and then on clefs 1&2 you need to use a similar set of notes which would be say minims, or a chrochet in the main score, how would the organ cope with that?
      A genuine question as these instruments have always fascinated me. As someone who plays a piano, I find it difficult to read two staves, let
      alone 3 !
      Thanks
      Chris

    No speaker system in the world can deliver the low frequency that this organ is capable of: the lowest note has just 8Hz! It sounds more like a 2 piston engine...

    • @KingdaToro
      @KingdaToro 10 лет назад +6

      Actually there is one, it's called a rotary woofer. It's a fan with the pitch of the blades controlled by an ordinary speaker voice coil driven by an ordinary audio amplifier. It gets flat frequency response from 20 Hz all the way down to 0 Hz.

    • @shayneoneill1506

    • @ichalz
      @ichalz 10 лет назад +6

      ds1868 At that frequency it is unlikely any human in the world will be able to "hear" the note. That said, 4hz played at a reasonable volume will certainly be perceived. Some will suggest they are "hearing" the note, but it would be better described as a feeling...a feeling that air is moving. More aptly, the description many give is a lack of silence. 4hz can't be heard, but the air is definitely moving and it will be felt.

    • @Karlfalcon
      @Karlfalcon  10 лет назад +3

      ***** Have you heard the later recordings made on the organ before it went silent? The clip of Ad Nos Ad Salutarem Undam and Abide With Me are glorious - and even they weren't played on the complete instrument.
      Hearing the full spectrum in stereo, let alone actually being IN the hall is quite a different experience than this paltry offering - and I fully admit this recording is lacking.

    • @Sekeletu
      @Sekeletu 9 лет назад

      ichalz It's not only a matter of moving air. Besides it you can feel vibrations of this frequency very well. This should bring the music to the new level.

      Remember this was recorded 60 years ago, and the organ was already damaged and out of repair at that time. The restoration going on right now has restored almost 50% of the organ to working order, and it is much more in tune now than in this recording.

    Elmore technical abilities are quite good, but he lacks a great deal of subtlety in how this instrument responds. Like with all organs the 16' and 32' (and 64' in the case of this organ) stops take a little longer to build up pressure in the wind chambers and produce a sound. He's going so fast these bigger pipes don't have a chance to build up that pressure and you get an almost tinny, unbalanced sound at times. He slows up at about the 6:30 mark and again from 7:12 to the end and the true bass this instrument has can finally be produced. As a bass fan this was not the best performance I've heard, and a bit of a letdown considering what this organ - even without all its stops fully functional - is capable of.

      You'll be pleased to know that the Dulzian rank (with the 64'), and Diapason ranks (with 32') were some of the first to be restored, along with the 100" wind pressure stops.

      J. Hanna Karlfalcon The "Fans of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall Organs" Facebook group, in which the core members of the volunteer crew post. As for motive - well, one could speculate... suffice to say that it seems like Curt Mangel is being brought in... which may not be a popular move given how comprehensively he revoiced the Wanamaker job. There are also those who want to respecify the Kimball, removing the more classical features (like the independent straight choruses and mixtures in both chambers) in favour of more and more Tibias (and you can bet the buzzy colour reeds will disappear off the Accompaniment).

    This is a magnificent instrument and a talented player. I can't help but wonder why Mr. Elmore was in such a hurry in this performance. I have performed this composition many times all over the world and have NEVER hurried through it like this because neither the music nor the instrument deserve such a dreadful recital such as this. It's like his bladder was at a bursting point and he was in an increasing hurry to empty it. If he ever has to opportunity to play this organ again, I hope he visits the men's room before he sits on the bench so he can honor the composer of the music he's about to play, and truly savor this instrument as it deserves.

    De tels excès dans le nombre de tuyaux et de claviers nous ont permis de constater que dans le domaine des sons, l’intensité auditive ne suit que de très loin l’augmentation de l’énergie mise en jeu. Il a fallu attendre des vérifications relativement récentes pour comprendre que l’impression de puissance était liée bien plus à l’addition de timbres différents et à l'étagement de ces jeux surtout pour les Principaux (16,8,4,2 pieds) , qu’à la multiplication de sons semblables. Un exemple: pour doubler l’intensité auditive d’un seul violon, il faut en ajouter 37.
    C’est pour cette raison que les monstres américains n’ont jamais fait éclater de vitraux ni brisé de tympans. Cette loi se vérifie aussi à l’orchestre où 80 violons ne font rien de plus que 40, à parties égales.
