I see you guys have reacted to "The Miracle." You should react to when the Philadelphia Flyers, a.k.a the Broad Street Bullies, faced the same Russian team. Philly spent more time fighting than playing hockey. They were the most hated team in the country.

This episode shows that Pam really does enjoy the madness of the office and all the antics.

    • @jerodast

I think there's a more subtle aspect to it too, she's sort of looking at things as glass half full now, even though OVERALL she would probably prefer a more fulfilling job without as awkward a boss (maybe), when Michael gets weird, just go with it and make something fun or meaningful out of it.

Jim did the chips thing for 1.) Flirting, 2.) Thumb his nose at work as usual, 3.) Show Karen that he also thought it was silly that he was asked in to supervise her

It also shows that Jim is yearning for his old office and Pam, where they could spend entire days wasting time with things like this.

Jim was given some sort of higher position, like Sales Manager, when he transferred. They mentioned it briefly in an earlier episode.

You know, Creed never substantiates his story about how Ed died. He says he got into an accident with a big rig and lost his head, but provides no proof and, as you pointed out in the reaction, why would he have access to that information so quickly? There is nothing mentioned about Creed and Ed Truck being closer than anything but boss-employee. It would totally be within Creed's character to just make that up or get confused and conflate two separate incidents. I like to think Ed passed away peacefully surrounded by family, but Creed just said he got decapitated and it set Michael into a spiral. lol

10:10 you are BANG on...Michael is lonely and is realizing death means people remember you and he doesn't think he has anyone to remember him.

The episode was written by Jen Celotta, who was also a co-executive producer on the show and would go on to be co-show runner in latter seasons. In the “Office Ladies” podcast, she discussed how this was a particularly challenging episode to write because Michael is going through so many emotions. She ended up writing a chart to help herself keep track of where Michael was emotionally at each point in the episode.

Ed Truck was in an episode. He was telling Michael basically he should treat his employees as employees not his friends lol. It was the episode where Michaels carpet had shit on it and it smelled terrible all episode…

There's a strong chance Creed is thinking of something completely different and Ed Truck wasn't even in a car accident at all. With that said, unless there's direct evidence to the contrary (including the many times Creed has straight up told the camera he was lying), I find life more enjoyable if I believe everything he says haha.

Creed is low-key one of my favorite characters. He's like Coach Beard on Ted Lasso in that he doesn't say much, but literally everything he says lets you know he has a wildly entertaining, broadly-lived life. And may be a little crazy. I also love how this episode shows Pam's kindness. She knew Michael was seeing himself in that bird, dying alone and unloved, so she went out of her way to show him he had support.

    • @richardsmith1161

And it's based on himself in real life. Creed was in a 60's band called the Grass Roots.

2:20 "Where does he get this time?" Michael doesn't do a lot of the work he's supposed to, remember in "The Fight" where Pam is having so much trouble getting him to sign several weekly, monthly and a yearly report? And they end up forging his signature because he never even signed them? 😂 that's where Michael gets his time.

Creed engages in morbid flights of fancy. Michael is usually prepared to buy into them.
Jim wanted to flirt with Karen, but never forget, Jim is a slacker and will find all sorts of ways to avoid work.
Hilary Swank will come up again, much later, but i won't spoil it. It's just funny that Pam describes Million Dollar Baby. I wonder if one of the show's writers has a thing for Swank.

I don't know if you guys read these comments but I wanted to give you some information in case you didn't know. 1. The actress who plays Kelly, Mindy kaling was a writer on the show, as was BJ Novak who plays Ryan. BJ was also a stand-up comic and this was his first writing job. 2. The reason the character of Kelly and later Ryan had their desks out of the way (Kelly in the annex, Ryan in the closet) was so that the writers could stay in the writing room and not be expected to always be on set when they weren't important in a scene. 3. The part of Phyllis is played by the woman who was the casting associate during the auditions for this show. She read with all the actors and when it came time for final choices the producer made her one of the office characters. Her first acting job as far as I know. 4. The actress who plays Meredith was replaced after the pilot episode with a new actress. 5. Creed Bratton the character is Creed Bratton the actor. That is his real name. He's most known as the guitarist for 60s-70s rock band, "the grass roots." He was a fan of the British version of the show and when he found out they were doing it in the US He begged to just be an extra in the pilot. He was and the role grew from there.

Yeah, it's not realistic that two office workers would spend a whole day trying to find a bag of chips, but I think the purpose of this was to show the playful flirtation developing between Karen and Jim. I think he's missing the friendship with Pam and he's thinking maybe he can find it with Karen. ...And you may already know this, but during the show, when Kelly and Ryan were dating, the actors that played them (Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak) were writing episodes for the show and were dating in real life in a very on-again/off-again relationship, sort of mirroring their characters on the show.

Whether Ed Truck being decapitated was real or just Creed being Creed was a matter of debate among fans for years, but writer, Jennifer Celotta, confirmed that Ed was indeed decapitated. Poor Ed. And just goes to show, you never can tell with Creed. 😂
