- In honor of a week since the finale, I’ve decided to tribute the evolution of our favorite bisexual tol bean: Ed Nygma. I know it may seem like I choose Oswald over Ed a lot (which I guess I would if it really came down to one or the other…) I still love Edward Nygma and all his extraness to death. His evolution over 3 seasons has been incredible. I will say he was just a tad bit annoying during his “I have to kill Oswald again” phase at the end of 3B, but everything else I’ve really enjoyed. I’m sorry if the beginning isn’t as good as the end, I’m not as well versed with Ed in season 1 as I am with him in seaons 2 and 3…But tbh, watching him grow from season 1-3 is amazing. Like he’s a completely different person it’s insane!
And I know some Ed fans are going to bitch and moan “why did you focus so little on Kristin and Isabella’s relationships with Ed? You’re just biased towards Oswald and Nygmobblepot!” AS TRUE AS THAT MAY BE, I believe their relationships with him didn’t really add to his evolution, didn’t really CAUSE much. Kristin, yes, KILLING her affected him, but not as much actually being with her. I also truly believe Isabella had nothing to do with Ed’s evolution. It wasn’t because she was killed he transformed into the Riddler, it was because Oswald BETRAYED him. I tried to focus on what CHANGED him. Betrayals from friends (Oswald and Jim), the act of killing, Oswald’s guidance, and killing who he loves.

Honestly Scarecrow could have also been a good villain for a sequel (we saw how good he was in Arkham games)
@@togucvinw7 I want to agree because I love Scarecrow as an idea and how they implemented him in the games. The problem, in my opinion anyway, is that they firmly established Scarecrow as a forgettable threat in the intro to Dark Knight. I mean; he doesn't even get to dose anyone with his toxin for crying out loud. Second; the whole endgame from the first movie was dosing the entire city with fear toxin; what could they do for an overarching threat? Especially with there being an antidote for the purest strain of said toxin after the 1st film?

the thing is that nygma is hunger for love and acceptance since the first episode. He was driven crazy, insane because of love. He outplay penguin because of love. The Riddler, in other word, is the anger of love. Lee has always been the one who accept Ed Nygma and remember, she was a therapy of arkham, she could easily read The Riddler, she can easily use him for her own purpose. The ending of season 4 show that The Riddler can control himself and stab Lee

Omg thank you! This is incredible. Gotham made the riddler cool. Transforming the giggling joke of a villain into a psychopathic paranoid serial killer and made him go from being my least to most favourite DC character. You should make another one later in season 4. (as a continuation or a Re-done version) thnx for this!🤓
All the villains on Gotham are so perfectly cast. Penguin is spot on, Riddler is great, and Jerome/Jeremiah is fantastic. Like they all portray such real emotion that I think makes them feel more natural than the ‘heros’. I just find them more interesting and easier to love than Gordon or Bruce.

I've been a long way DC fan, one of my favourite villains was always the Riddler whether it was in a cartoon, movie, comic... But this Edward is by far my favourite, his story, development, insanity.

It’s sad 😢 Ed just wanted to have friends to accept him the way he is and be welcomed . It’s hard for him because he feels alone and outcasted from society because he is so different .
But penguin got Ed , as he's soo very different from everyone else also
“No man does evil things just for evil. He does it for what he believes is good.” Nygma’s story is the exact definition of that. His first kill was to protect someone he loves and his second was telling her that he loves her. He just got a thrill for it.

It'd be interesting since Oswald is more vicious and has a very good relationship with his parents Edward is more cerebral and has a very strained relationship with his father. I can imagine his father being a cop and to get away from his family I could see their last name actually being nashton and Edward changed it to nygma two add to his image of intelligence

Maybe that will be a turning point in making them friends again, bc I need them at the very least to be friends again. This is an amazing video, it is brilliantly edited, and it really helps you understand Ed, and how he feels and it makes you feel genuinely bad for him, and that’s one of the saddest parts about this is you shouldn’t feel bad for him, he murders, and does horrible things but you do and that is simply amazing, and powerful. This video makes you wish you were there to just give him a big hug. This is true art. This is beautiful, and amazing, and even though it is so small it is one of my favorite videos. Amazing! I love Ed's evolution, and how they were building it slowly through all seasons with details like changes of his voice, posture, gesticulation, etc. even at the end of 3 season he was still in the process of struggling and figuring himself out, and you captured it really great

He is my favorite character the actor played him so well and he met the actual expectations of the riddler from the comics and the video games it was just so perfect !

Thanks so much for going back to the beginning with this, it gave me a chance to catch up on episodes I missed(especially the Cobblepot/Nygma unrequited love story), and to be amazed at the range of both these amazing actors. I've always been a Selina Kyle/Catwoman shipper, and Camren does an amazing job bringing her to life, but things like this video,and this show, give me a whole new appreciation for the emotional depth that exists in characters like Nygma and Cobblepot. Although Burgess Meredith will always be the ultimate Cobblepot for me, Lord's portryal of him in his early career is just beyond words!

Oh I really love this, so much more than I expected ?? (considering I'd probably pick os over ed too haha) But watching the progression of Ed's character all in one go, I feel like this really highlights the difference between Oswald & Edward, despite how many parallels their stories have. While Oswald's story has always seemed to me like he's building himself up (embracing his faults), Ed's is almost a progressive fall, in my opinion, giving up more and more of the sweet cinaroll we saw in S1 until he became the Riddler & leading to his downfall upon being frozen.
Wow it’s very sad how Edward Nygma went from such a sweet cool hilarious amazing helpful guy who just wanted to help people around him but then he became a scary riddling villain guy who lost his humanity to pure insanity and all that could have been avoided and never happened if people around him actually began letting his skills and community helpful humour ways in more often and even appreciate what he’s skill brought to the community
