Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a couple of spare mattresses set on end to eliminate unwanted sound reverberations.
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com

I have never heard all of these verses. I enjoyed hearing this. Wish our song leaders would sing more of the verses and not just two or three. You sounded good
LOL....same here!! I wish churches would revert to singing this hymn as it was intended (all verses) and stop singing the Chris Tomlin version. His version has it's place, I suppose, but not as replacement to this original hymn. His version is fine for concerts, but not in the church house on Sunday morning, IMHO.

I've always known that there were several verses to Amazing Grace , as a small child the song came to be my family's story. I wish my grandparents were here to be able to here it. The most beautiful song that GOD ever gave man the talent to write.

Old hymns are the only true Christian music and the King James Bible is the only true Word of God.
Hello Andrew. While I prefer older hymns as well, I think both of your comments are untrue, misguided, and/or incomplete. I won't get in to the whole KJV argument. Been there before and my thorough research has always fell on deaf ears and hard hearts. If you'd like to discuss KJV, I'm happy to - only in love. But if you are like the many other KJV advocates that feel that all those that don't prefer the KJV as their first (or only) translation are lost, then I won't be having that conversation with you. In short, it's a fine translation. But to say it's the "only true Word of God" is illogical and a complete falsehood. If you'd like an explanation for why I say that, I'm happy to provide it. But please only request that explanation if you truly want to know and learn.
Now, about Christian music. Songs like Amazing Grace, that were written in the 1700's through the early 1900's are my favorite! But there is nothing specific about "old hymns" that makes them "the only true Christian music" that could not also be written today. It is true that today's composers often chose watered down language for their songs and more contemporary styles of chord changes, voicings, and rhythms. But Biblical hymns *can* be written today. It is possible. And it is, on occasion, done. Do not close your heart or mind off whenever you see a hymn written in the 2000's. There are a handful that I've come across that are *very* good, both aurally and Biblically.
Well done as written, but this is a horrible arrangement of "Amazing Grace," especially the harmonization and timing at the end of the second line. the half note should be a whole note tied to a quarter note (5 beats rather than 2). I don't know why every hymnal in Churches of Christ has the same arrangement AND IT'S NEVER SANG AS WRITTEN!
