    I've owned several Korg arrangers... currently pa700.. always felt the styles sounded more alive especially the bass than the Yamaha arrangers ( I have both)... The Korg arrangers to me sounded more like a live band where the Yamaha sounded more CD like... IMHO...thanks as always.

      I feel Yamaha’s styles are a bit too quantised and feel more robotic because of how they are programmed. However the performance patches on the motif series which function similar to arranger styles do feel more lively and realistic to me

    They all sound very clean and somewhat familiar.
    The Rock Singwriter preset has a Tom Petty vibe.
    I respect your playing skills, and I think your choice to present these Out of the box, is a good idea. You can hear where they've simplified a lot of the progressions and melodies so that musicians can add their own flare and chops.
    Thanks for the demo!

    Another fantastic video Woody, and demonstrating what I think is the best arranger out there by a long stretch, it sounds live & realistic whilst also warm & full sounding. Just listen to the bass, drums & guitar arrangements they are just truly awe inspiring. The only arranger out there that comes close to this quality of styles is the Ketron Event which I also own, that’s also another incredible arranger that does match the Korg in this category but only in this category & nothing else, so the Korg wins hands down. Keep more Pa5x videos coming Woody, you’re a true gent. All the best to you.

    Everyone better be subscribed to Woody! And i concur, the style audition vids are very time consuming, especially when you have to remove copyrights!
    It gets and sounds even better when you integrate the pads. Infact, you can use the pads as a style without starting the style. I show this and use them extensively jn my style vids. I let the chord sequencer do its thing, and am constantly activating pads. They really do add a lot.

      Korg arrangers were widely accepted to be superior than whatever the competition had to offer, not very long ago, but since then korg settled and refused to do any significant updates to their upper mid-range arrangers, while others caught up and even exceeded them. It has been around 7 years since the last update on Pa1000, which they sell new for 2600 bucks today

    • @WoodyPianoShack

      by programmable variations, you mean creating your own styles? yes, you can do that on both, but quite tedious and painful process in my experience!

    These styles sound really good. The last one is a Green Day song, something I hear regularly on my favourite alternative radio station that I listen whilst working in the office. If I’d have to choose between the Genos 2 or Pa5x, I’d pick the Korg one over it’s styles. They sound more alive and are more contemporary in their song choices. I wonder if it has some alternative rock styles in it’s banks (like grunge, pop-punk, indie, Evanescence, etc).

    What I like about the Korg styles in general is that they add styles that are made for popular songs of the last few years. In comparison with Yamaha. Most styles are decades old. Yamaha styles are amazingly great but old. That is a big difference with Korg that are fresh.

    • @Chellinoolmo
      @Chellinoolmo 3 месяца назад +4

      There is another important difference:
      Genos1 and Genos2 styles only have 4 bars in Mains, while Pa5X mostly have 8 bars or more.
      Wing Slow Rock (at 9:45 in this video) has 19 bars in all Variations.

    So, let me ask you a question. A prominent RUclipsr has done several videos on Genos 2, and in many of his Rock style demos, he's started out to play it, and then doesn't, since he says 'Oh, you all know that one' and doesn't want to get hit for a copyright or demonetization. Okay, I get that. Now, I listen and play 'The Great American Songbook' and if it's like 80s or newer, I don't listen to it, so I don't know a lot of the song styles. My question for you is, on the PA5X, are a lot of the styles 'song specific?' If I chose a specific style, am I going to be almost locked into a specific song because the style was basically written for that song?
    I can see where that might be useful if you're playing out and somebody wants a specific song and having a style for that song is great, but I think the Genos 2 has like 800 songs, and I would hate if 500 of them were song specific. How does the PA5X compare, have you been able to figure that out yet?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  2 месяца назад +1

      hard to say. some of the styles that i don't recognise might well be specific songs that i don't know. it makes me uncomfortanle that yamaha/korg are deciding my repertoire. as a musician it is important i think that you create your own styles, or modify them to make them more generic or suitable for the songs that You decide to play!

    • @GaryMCurran
      @GaryMCurran 2 месяца назад

      @@WoodyPianoShack I tend to agree. Of course, the music that I play tends to be more generic is style, I can use multiple styles for different songs, and that leaves me with a huge latitude for choosing a style. One of my problems, though, is that it IS important that you have the ability to create your own style. Due to me lack of music education, I'm not really able to do that. But, that's just me. People who can do it should do it.

    • @quirobinez
      @quirobinez 2 месяца назад +3

      @@GaryMCurran most of the korg styles are song specific styles, but it is really easy to change them in generic styles within minutes, you don’t have to know how to create stles, it’s all done in the assembly mode which makes many new combinations possible with the more then 3200 variations times 8 sound patterns available. so changing styles into a generic one is no issue at all on a korg.

    • @GaryMCurran
      @GaryMCurran 2 месяца назад

      @@quirobinez Thank you for that answer. Right now, I'm not in the position to pick up a new keyboard, I'm stuck with my old PA800, which after a power supply replacement and a screen replacement, is still going strong. Great keyboard, but yeah, I'd like more.
      One of these days, though, I'd like to get a new PA5X, either 76 or 88 key version.
      God, I just saw the price of the new PA-AS Mk II yesterday. What happened to that? Double the price of the original? Why?
