finally ,i bought this on cd in london in 93 its lost since ,its great to hear it again,i always pictured rolling cornfields with grey & sunny skies ,these urban images work v well
An hour or so this was a song I'd heard but never listened to on a cult album. Since then I've listened, on RUclips to four or five versions. This may be the most striking - and it's up against some big hitters of the folk /acoustic world. Worth looking out the original though Fatima Mansions fans.
Many thanks for posting this. It's the only Mansions track I don't own. In fact I'd never heard it before I found this vid. Wasn't it an extra track on the Evil Man 12" vinyl single? Never seen it on CD. Beautiful song. What a band they were...
I''m on a binge on songs with the word "scarecrow" in the title. So far I've been through Ministry, Beck, Benny Goodman, John Mellencamp, XTC and, of course, Fatima Mansions.
Is there a place where these ultra-rare Fatima Mansions tracks can be found ? I've never heard this for instance. Never heard Paper Thin Hotel as far as I know. I see there's a singles collection called 1000% but can't hunt down the track list for it. To the best of my knowledge, I have every album they've released. And why, for the love of god, is there no Fatima Mansions Peel Sessions out there ? And finally-when does the deluxe reissue of 'The Crooked Mile' by Microdisney come out ?
The Scarecrow was only ever available as one of the bonus tracks on the 12" vinyl of the Evil Man single. There is currently a story going around that Crooked Mile and 39 Minutes are to be reissued at some as yet unspecified date on the Caroline label (a Virgin archive offshoot). All the 1000% singles are worth getting and are usually available for very little on Amazon UK. There are various live tracks on those CDs and a demented remix called 1,000,000%. Fairly sure Paper Thin Hotel is on one of them, too. There is currently an excellent Fatima Mansions fan/discussion page on Facebook, and also one called The Microdisney Love Club, and The Cathal Coughlan Society. All highly recommended. Cheers.
This is certainly an interesting interpretation of the song. I'm not sure it quite works for me though. Saying that, the vocalist has a pretty unique voice so I may have just discovered a new band to look into ;)
Wow! After 20 years of loving Cathal's stuff... an old track I'd never heard either!

Beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Thank you. What a treat. Thought I knew of all their stuff, but I was wrong.
Best male vocalist ever
Fantastic track!

Yes it was on the B of one version of the 12" Evil Man.
Brilliant

Don’t forget the original of this: ruclips.net/video/ut9MhLq-tVs/видео.html
And Pink Floyd.

Wow. I've never heard this before.
It's the B-side of "Evil Man", I believe. Thanks for your comment.
