The winning singer of 2005, Helena Paparizou, was also the singer of Antique in 2001.

During the golden decade, everyone was obsessed with Eurovision. TV ratings, which averaged 24.4% in 2001 when Antique essentially brought Eurovision back into fashion, reached 58% in 2003, and with Sakis' participation in 2004, it skyrocketed to an average of 75.5% and 86.5% during his performance of "Shake It"-a record in the history of Greek television then. These are the five highest average ratings for the show in Greece so far:
2006: 82.6%, (The final that took place in Athens)
    2005: 82.3%
    2009: 78.9%
    2008: 78.8%
    2004: 75.5%
In 2024, the ratings reached 71.5%, once again bringing Eurovision to the forefront. In 1975, Greece's participation was a protest entry against Turkey's invasion of Cyprus and the dramatic events that followed in the summer of 1974. Mariza Koch received threats to her life, and there was a sniper inside the concert hall. The singer signed a waiver, agreeing to perform at her own risk, as the organizers could not guarantee her safety.

mariza koch from the 1976 performance, she's wearing a bulletproof vest under her dress, because at the time there was a threat against her life for singing this song (which was about Cyprus and the divide situation going on at the time) and the production refused to offer any more protection, and told her to either drop out or take responsibility going on stage (ridiculous stuff since there was an active shooter threat already and they knew about it)
if you look carefully you can see the outline of the vest under her clothes

Guys, you made some good remarks indeed.
I think Greece has always been in doubt as to what style of song to deliver to ESC: A pop, more European-friendly one or a more traditional one using local instrumentals and rhythms. Sometimes, they also made mixes of genres, as seen in different years.
Greece has had a pop culture almost equal to the ones delevoped in other countries. At the same time, they also grew more contemporary folk genres inspired from the local tradition, often combined with the music of the Balkans and the orient. As any extrovert country open to influences would do.
    Thanks for your video.
PS1 Greece in greek is Hellàs (Ellàda). Greek people are Hellènes, greek (adj.) is hellenic.

Finally, someone likes the 1998 entry!!! It's among my favs.. 😊♥️ But the reason for the 20th place, aside from the song itself, might have been a lot backstage stuff that happened that year with someone from the greek team. If I remember correctly, it had to do with the direction of the song to the point that a big fuss was made about it and that person was forbidden from entering the stadium for the final..😌
