This view is the most widely held in Greece. The way she interpreted each song was magical, as if her soul spoke directly to the listener's soul. @chrisofmelbourne87 The voice of Greece is undoubtebly Haris Alexiou. Marinella (although not my personal favorite) is a HUGE artist that has had an enormous influence in most (if not all) of modern female folk singers. However, Alexiou has something that is very difficult to explain to someone who didn't grow up listening to her songs: if our mother, our favorite aunt, our first girlfriend and our best friend had one voice, that would be hers. That's the best way I can explain it lol.
The voice of Greece abroad, is Haris Alexiou. The best backup vocals ever, is Marinella. That’s all I can say for each one.

Anna Vissi was the main actress of the opera Daimones that was written by her only ever husband Nikos Karvelas. It's the first rock opera that was presented in Greece and there are 2 editions. The first which was presented on 1991 and the second one on 2013. Check them out and compare them. You would be stunned 🥹
In Greece isn't only the range of the voice or the abilities. Is mostly the feeling, to be able to convey to you what they feel, the emotion they give you, the interpretation and the warmth in the voice.

Irene Papas with Vangelis. Powerful, they did two albums together. Sadly, we lost both of them in 2022.

The video probably said that Haroula is the 3rd best selling Greek female singer, because who made the video counts but didnt show, the singers that made only international career like Nana Mouschouri, Maria Kallas, Vicky Leandros etc.
If you like Marinella so much try to find the duet Costas Hatzis-Marinella from 1970. You will adore them!
Vissi needed longer to get an idea of her. She can seem like different people from year to year, a chameleon with many styles. Also great reactions, you got the jist of each singer well.

Number 6 is definitely my favorite female Greek singer, the depth, the softness,the sweetness of her voice and ofcourse the melodies and the lyrics of her songs,all amazing! Though time is relentless!

Some of them are good, some are amazing, but none of them can hold a light to Marinella. THe incomparable technique, the rich tone and huge range, the versatility of the voice, the diamond-like clarity, the ease with which she passes from low to high notes without absolutely no struggle, her vibrato are but a few of the characteristics that make her unrivalled. She is by far the oldest one of all and still the only one with a voice. She has been singing for 70 years, she is 86+ and can be compared only to her older self and nobody else. The reason that she is not number 1 commercially is because she started out in an age (1960's) when people didn't buy as much as later (1980 onwards). And she had her own really particular style, she never tried to promote herself through political attachments and a political repertoire or lifestyle, which also cost her commercially. She has paved the way for the rest that followed in more ways than one, she has had huge domestic and international names of the time in her audience worship her, she has written history and has become a myth, she is really out of this world
Number 6, Eleftheria Arvanitaki is by far the most competent vocalist in this Era. Her repertoire is so vast and dynamic, without ever so far making discounts on her music quality, something that every other singer in the list have done at some point more or less. And it's because of this that is probably the only one that has an actual international career in the world music genre. Her achievements and career in general are something to be jealous of. The top5 of the list and number 8 also have amazing careers but all of them didn't rely solely on their voice as Eleftheria Arvanitaki did. Although super famous in Greece she is underrated

Haroula is absolutely amazing! She has an outstanding voice,, she is warm, touching, you can hear her soul when she sings and shares her emotions easily. You feel like she understands you, like she is your friend and you had the same experiences in life. She is human! and i think that is what makes her so great!
Nana Mouskouri has sold more than 350 million albums and ranks as the number one female singer in record sales but for some reason you didn't include her on your list as if she never existed.
Yes but not in Greek. She sold mostly in French, Spanish, German, English, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese.

She just happened to be popular abroad and so began to sing in other languages, but she always included Greek songs in her international concerts, making her an ambasador for her country, and many of her foreign language songs are actually Greek melodies and folk songs which brought them to a far wider audience than could ever be achieved only singing them exclusively in Greek. She still rivals Madonna as the best selling female artist, so that is some accomplishment, plus she is a lovely humble lady who never let fame go to her head. She turned 89 this year, and was still doing full concerts as late as 2018. 🤗🥰❤

Greek music is a precious treasure consists lots of amazing and unique female singers. This video is having some nice songs, edits and artists, but we can see that is personal choices from the creator of this video, which (in my opinion) is not fair for all the female singers and first off all for the representation of Greek music.

There's is many greek songs who don't compare with anybody of these but generally...it just from 50-60-70s....
On Greek male singers it would be Demis Roussos, Kazantzidis, Dionysiou, Dalaras, Mitropanos, Parios, Aggelopoulos, Sfakianakis, Terzis, Remos, the top10 maybe.
Demis Rousos did almost nothing in Greek and was way more famous overseas than in Greece

Number 1 Haris or Haroula Alexion is quite a good story teller and I guess this is also down to her drama skills. Also she has a deeper voice than the rest ( except for Alkistis Protopsalti who is contralto I think) harris can do traditional folk well.

She is not the best imo but is the highest selling. The best Greek female singer is Haris Alexiou this is general comsensus in Greece, or Marinella and then Protopsalti. These together with Nana Mouskouri and Maria Callas who have a little diffferent repertoires are the top5 maybe. Based on quality of somgs also, because Jenny Vanou did not have many songs.
