  • The Acts of the Apostles grants us a glimpse into the first stages of Christianity, observing the formation of the Early Church. The scriptural passages recount miracles, significant conversions, and the fervent work of passionate evangelists, unmistakably guided by the movement of the Holy Spirit. As we contemplate the state of the Church today, do we still perceive the evident presence of the Holy Spirit? Are miracles and conversions still part of our collective experience?
In a thoughtful discussion, Jeff Cavins and Michael Gormley delve into the parallels and distinctions between the Early Church and the contemporary Catholic Church. Their reflections prompt us to consider the Church's evolution, underscoring the lasting significance of permitting the power of God to manifest through each one of us. Let us, too, be open vessels for the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit within the Church today.

Fortunately the majority of people believe in God but unfortunately they do not worship. They do call on God for help but never give Him the worship He is due.

It is truly the Hand of God that made those letters find their way to a single place to be included in the bible we have since 300 AD. True worship in the sacrifice of the mass which Jesus said very specifically. The bible was not assembled until 300 AM when Christianity was accepted by Rome. Scripture is not worship. Jesus did not tell them to publish books. He told them to preach which is what the Catholic Church did. Jesus did not say to read the bible as worship. The early church performed the Mass for 300 years and that is the true worship of the one true Catholic Church as specifically told 'do this in remembrance of Me'. He also told them to go preach. He did not tell them to hand out books. The bible was assembled to ensure the story would be consistent and NEVER Change over the years. The church has been teaching the exact same stories the early church taught. That is not worship it is historical documentations.

    A few corrections.
Julian was the apostate emperor, not Justinian.
And to the questioner about the rudeness of preaching in the synagogues, there has to be a distinction drawn between the synagogue's purpose pre-70 AD. The synagogue was not a place of prayer, but rather a community hall for the Jewish people. You see this with Paul, as he is judged and punished in them by the various diaspora communities. Archeological evidence shows they would even be used as places for Jewish travellersto rest at. They would hear the Scriptures proclaimed and expounded upon, but was not a house of prayer. Just a bit of an anachronism on their part.

@@partyon5374 because one is a creation story, and the other is a theological statement about salvation and God. The creation story was written to be told to 1000 AC Middle-Easterners, not 2020 AD scientists

Scripture is not a science book or even a history book in all cases. It is written to show Goo's love and involvement in human life and to present the teachings of Jesus who is documented to be real as there is an unbroken line of Christians since His resurrections. The followers did not make all that stuff up. It is inspired as the New Testament has been tested for 2000 years and has not been broken with any contradictions. The New Testament is tight and every argument you can think of has been tried and as an early church was not rich and powerful to attract scholars to tighten the story up.

Do you have an example and a source of your study of culture and history of that time. If you don't believe in Jesus why would you zero in and concentrate your study at 0 - 33 AD? Are you Jewish who studied the entirety of Jewish culture and its highlights or just repeating something that was told to you by equally misinformed person? You should so the bible in a year with father mike so you have some knowledge to not contract or disagree with a book you have never read. Father Mike does a great job but the bible, Jesus, the fulfillment of the old testament has so many facets it would be bible in 1000 years to explain it all. Probably a billion books, documents and pamphlets have been written to explain the bible over the last 2000 years by some of the worlds greatest scholars and inspired people.
