Athough I'm (only?) 64 I will die as a happy man because I visited in my youth (and later on) many live concerts of the really great bands: Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Santana, ...
I honestly pity the young people because of the rap/hiphop/singer-songwriter shit nowadays!

Ken Hensley is Merlin the Magician and conjured up the perfect band to play off of. One of my favorite bands of all time but I love Status Quo too and Slade. Who could out sing Noddy Holder?
My God what a ride its been...I was born to be a hippie, LOVE SAVES best trip on the planet. we were laying prone in the ozone drinking beers and getting stoned, tripping back to the good old days, window panes and purple haze, wondering where it all went wrong all we ever really wanted was left alone free to find our own way home and sing our own songs peace and love wasnt meant to be the world attacked us out of jealousy its all lies and hypocrisy, money, power and control but the rock and roll escaped their control. many of us have fallen along the way but i know everything is gonna be ok. across the green field she waits for me and this time we're going to touch, God is willing and ive got my luck to carry me through. Run with me woman the time is now to smash their idols kill their golden cash cow. Come on Merlin sing your wedding song the end is the beginning when the circle is complete.....

Sim,Concordo.

Gary Thain! One of the best bass players ever! So fucking melodic in his fills! My ears get off every time I listen to his brilliance. I looked him up on wiki the other day, and found that we share the same birthday. I have always looked up to him as an amazing bass player. As RUSH toured with these guys in their earliest days, I am sure Gary and Geddy had more than a few sit downs talking and jamming. At least I'd like to think so. R.I.P. Gary Thain! You are missed....

What a great band this URIAH HEEP. Along with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and deep Purple the best and most representative of British rock and of course rock in the world. These 4 bands were the basis of the groups that make up today the evolution of this great musical genre, in the world arena the generators of heavy Rock and Black Sabbath band that created the heavy Metal. Uriah Heep in the Seventies composed unmatched discs rich in composition and melody. You can't forget such well-crafted pieces as "Salisbury " with long and deep background symphonic mediation, "Bird of pray " excellent choruses, "time to live " slow, heavy and deep with a melodious voice by David Byron, the sad and melancholy lyrics. From the album "Look at yourself " Impressive pieces "July morning " from an excellent melodic cadence, long and heavy, "I wanna Be Free " with a strong, steady guitar, the same for "tears in my eyes ", "Shadows of Grief ". "Traveller in time, Easy living " Great pieces of album "Demons and wizards ". Needless to say of the album "The Magician´s Birthday " The Magnificent homonymous piece; Long, heavy and deep. Impressive album also "return to Fantasy " This time with the great bassist Jhon Wetton who also played in the magnificent band King Crimson. It should be noted that URIAH HEEP was the only heavy rock band that came out a few years ago within the 100 Best progressive rock albums with "The Magician´s Birthday ", a list in which only bands appeared as Pink Floyd, Yes; ELP, Genesis, Trimvirat, Jethro Tull, Tangerine Dream, CAMEL, the Premiata Forneria Marconi, Gong, etc. Long Live Rock

Hello! Very impressive mister! I`m on your side, really! I call it " THE CHALLENGE". I totally disagree with you on your theory about "the best and the most important artist in this genre??? ) Hmmm! Just because everybody knows them and they are from England??? Still It`s only my own opinion! What about bands from that era from different countries maybe? I`m talking about" BRUTALLY DISCRIMINATED" by others- the band from Wales(...!!!)- BUDGIE! Lately elevated high up by listeners ( kind of by Metallica ...???- much more by Lars Urlich from Denmark, yeah!!! BUT WHO remembers the other two Metallica`s covers from the same GARAGE DAYS? album made by them , originally by ??? DIAMOND HEAD from England( Am I evil? and Blitzkrieg)? MY HIGHEST RESPECT( I do know all this shit) to the world`s GODS of hard and heavy metal!!! BUDGIE! BUDGIE! BUDGIE! Nobody played like them at that time, NOBODY!!! Not LZ, not DP, not BS or UH or TYA! Wait! How about SWEET( early stage), of course. On my list " BEST OF THE BEST" BUDGIE- The best HEAHA ROCK, no doubts! Burke Shelley Budgies vocal and bass player once said: "I got nothing to say. Everybody knows, that almost every existing band was using in any form OUR MUSIC WE COMPOSED! My very good well know metal musician from Poland said ( I`m also from Poland, for many years living in Chicago now): " Fu.. Man, I had no idea , YOU are fu.... right about that- their music`s elements or else I `m SEEING everywhere and ... Fu..!!! My full respect GUYS!!! MY BAD< SO LATE!!! Thanx Tom, you introduced BUDGIE to me! ISSUE #@2 please! John Wetton also played in YES, se cannot ...!, ROXY MUSIC, U.K. , WISBONE ASH another giant English band- "Wishbone Ash are noted for their extensive use of harmony twin lead guitars, which had been attracting electric blues bands since Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page had played together in the Yardbirds in 1966.[1][2][3] Their contributions helped Andy Powell and Ted Turner to be voted "Two of the Ten Most Important Guitarists in Rock History. MAYBE ENOUGH! STILL YOU DID VERY GOOD JOB! About PROG " HI END" bands- MARILLION, PENDRAGON, but( surprise, surprise- German PROG GODS- ELOY!!! Yes Ser, we use to call them " German version of Pink Floyd), Procol Harum, The moody blues, little bit later- from Australia, My specialty, Very unknown band- ARAGON, please, my favor is " MOUSE". even from an old JUGOSLAVIA country with famous member- Goran Bregovic- and on and on...! Pleasure! I`m in it for a very, very, long time!!! It does take time! REGARDS, Thomas,

Uriah Heep was one of mine favorites progressive rock music bands, I used to listen them when I was a teenager, on the 70's. They were vary popular in La Paz, Bolivia. Great music.

I saw them in St. Paul, Minnesota and back then you could still be right up against the stage which I was. I got to shake hands with Mick Box. Bassist Gary Thain was so Effed up he kept falling down. He woke up laying on the stage and began playing while laying down. David Byron said "If we can't continue, we'l come back and do a free show" then pointed down at him and applauded... him playing while laying down. He died soon thereafter. Poor soul!

Man my brother turned me on to UH n i listened n bought everything zi could find on them until David passed n to me they weren't Uriah Heep anymore kinda like L. S. with there lead singer to me they became a tribute or cover band after van zant passed . God before that not every song was great but when they wrote some songs that there is no words to describe how awesome they were like simple man . Uriah Heep God like sunrise and Demons and Wizards albums are like moderate day Beethoven. No words to explain how good they sound Uriah Heep were not the same after David passed some stars are so bright they go supernova anyway thank you for posting

Ken Hensley (keyboards, guitars & vocals) was really the member who made Uriah Heep. He was the main songwriter who wrote most of their hits & was the primary engine behind the band. Unfortunately it never enjoyed the success it deserved. However 5 incredibly TALENTED musicians. Wish they'd gotten the airplay & attention they deserved during the Byron era. A college friend introduced me to them in 1972 and it took a while but I purchased their "Live" album and realized how great they were when "Easy Living" got a bit of airplay. After Byron left though, I never listened to them again, and like Iron Butterfly, they'd lost one of their key components & at least to my ears their music went downhill, but "LIVE" (in Japan) was their absolute best album!

this was one of the top 10 rock bands from 1971 - 75. hands down. those 4 or 5 albums they put out in this time frame were great. love this band. one of a few bands where you could put the album on the turn table and let every song play. so sad about david Byron. alcohol took him. God bless him and RIP. thanks for the great memories and fun times. your music lives on !!!!

  • @lawrencearansaspasstx4374

David Byron's distinctive voice and Mick Box's one of a kind guitar sound, set Uriah Heep in a class of their own during the '70s.Gary Thain's bass playing gave the foundation to Uriah Heep's music. Heroin took him too early. If the alcohol hadn't taken David Byron so early, no telling what he could have done, with a singing voice like his.
