I just finished thru-hiking the Foothills Trail. What a great trail! Absolutely right about scaling down what we take hiking with us. I do take my wallet, but it is a slimline Ridge hiker's wallet. I keep my car key with me, but in a zipped pocket where I don't worry about losing it. I'm so tired at the end of the day, I just it and crawl in my bag. Hiker's midnight is real! This trail is long enough to enjoy the adventure, but sort enough that logistics isn't too hard. Thanks for sharing. I just subscribed!
Very useful -- and entertaining! I especially liked the advice of taking only your license, "so they can identify your body" when they find you. If the grizzlies have left anything, that is!
Andrew those are wise words of wisdom. It is amusing to see the folks all packed up and ready for anything.....but...after a 30 mile hike they realize they don't need most of the stuff they brought!! Good information video, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I hike solo.....My 9mm pocket Kahr CM9 comes with me.....always! Funny thing I was Section Hiking the AT 2 weeks away from that murderous A-hole Sovereign when he killed the Vet. So, now, more than ever. It is not for the Animals, it is for the Monsters called Humans that I carry. You won't find huge bears attacking people on the East Coast. The West Coast is another matter, Mountain Lions from North to South and Big Ol Mean Grizzlies (A 10mm or 44 mag?) in the North, by Montana and the Cascades....Plus those Monsters..... Yeap, my 'Mouse' 9mm never shows its tail....to anyone!
On the subject of nails, DO bring a set of nail clippers. Wife thought I was crazy on insisting on bringing a set in the first aid kit until she had a toenail rip up after stubbing her toe bad.
Awesome! Thank you! If your ever in KY, come hike the Sheltowee Trace! I run a shuttle in the Daniel Boone National Forest and a hiker recommended the foothills trail.
is there any way I could get in touch with a member of your organization? I'm planning a solo through hike for my one man bachelor party and have some questions.
@@foothillstrailhiker2426 That is what I am striving for, I average around 10-15 miles a day on the AT so I should be able to match this here I am thinking. Do you ever hike in GA?
Foothills Trail Hiker Trust me, the Appalachian Trail is nothing but serious inclines and declines the entire way. Most quit the trail only 30 miles in. Thank you for the advice as it is helping me craft my plans to Thru. Cheers
If everything works out I will hiking the FootHills Trail sometime in March. Had plan to hike about a year ago but had a pain in the side and ended up having to have my gall bladder removed.

How long did it take you to Thru hike the Foothills Trail? Just subbed
I spent 5 days on the trail. That's around 16 miles per day.
