I've never seen anybody do a before/after food tour. Thanks for sharing!
I like to watch what and see what other people stock up on. It's always good to have extra food available. Last year the fridge broke down and I had just gone shopping, at least $140 worth of food went bad, meat, vegetables, ice cream, frozen foods, everything! Fortunately I had a lot of stuff in my pantry and I went to a drop-in center where they make breakfast and lunch. I was lucky I stocked up on cans and boxes.
You know I'm the opposite of you as far as pantry clean out. I'm working on getting a decent food storage going. I want to eventually have enough dry, can and freezer stuff to last 6 months. That way if something were to happen we wouldn't starve. Of course I live in a rural area where getting a good job (or even full time job) can be difficult. You can wind up going months between jobs or with only a PT one.
Exactly, I'm confused why you would buy meat in bulk from zay con when it could spoil in power outage but you want your pantry empty. Cans will last for at least a couple years. I stock my pantry with everyday things we need then make meals out of it. Then when it's time to shop for fresh fruit and veg I look and see what pantry items I ate and replace them. Very convient when busy or weather won't let me got to store.
Steven Nichols sorry but maybe I wasn’t clear... I’m totally fine with buying certain items in bulk (like meat, stuff from Costco) and storing them if I can get a good deal and save money. Worst case scenario if we lose power we have a large generator that can easily run the freezer, fridge, window unit, lamps etc. my only point with “purging the pantry” is that I want to be super intentional when I grocery shop to begin with. I want to get into a good habit of being efficient and not buying stuff at full price that we won’t eat, goes bad or just sits in our pantry for months and months. I used to be AWFUL with food waste, there is definitely an art behind food shopping/storage/consuming so I’m just trying something that hopefully will work for our family ☺️ hope that clears it up!!
I like stocking pantry and canning so that I'm prepared I've had times when the pantry was a life saver, emergencies happen good to be ready, I even can meat so if a power outage its still good, I do keep freezer full when I can no deep freeze but have two fridges with freezer space, but pantry is my goal I like to keep it stocked I live in middle of nowhere and have numerous health issues so its handy, I do rotate and date stuff and try to use the older stuff first, I'd love to be able to clear it out and start fresh but lol I gotta keep it full as can we both got flu for ten days me and daughter lived on easy canned soups and ramen to sick to cook so now gotta work on restocking that lol well guess we all have to do what works for us, I need to can meat loaf on a video, its great for a sand which or quick meal, yes lol canned meat ,pretty ham she has there yummy
Amanda Murphy that’s my goal too
Probably too late for that particular sacrificial lemon, but it can still be used to steam clean the inside of the microwave and/or regular oven, as well as freshen the kitchen sink drain/garbage disposer.
Also, elfa shelving at Container Store is on sale now/Feb and is the most versatile track/standards/shelving/accessories systems ever because they can be changed any time to configure closet and room changes as needed.
Great job using all your food, my pet peeve is the people that shop at Costco and they are constantly buying and not using what they have first so then they start throwing out old food.
Also my pet peeve.
WOW! I am impressed with how low you were able to get your fridge, freezer and pantry down!! Awesome job!!
Freedom In A Budget thanks friend!!!! 😍 hope you’re enjoying the newlywed life!
You can bake with older milk even sour milk. Make pancakes
Something you could do when the milk goes out of date is to use it for cooking mash potatoes or mac and cheese so you don't have to throw it away... I do that before buying new milk haha. Also the milk doesn't taste funny or anything so it could be an alternative
Cornbread
Mrs. Baird's bread brings back childhood memories when I lived in Texas. I used to love their honey buns.
My daughter thinks you sound like Julia Roberts!! 😁
I suggest that if you do not use so frequently you turkey breast, to freeze some of them.
oh u can use bayleaves in your flour and rice to keep the weevels out of your flour and rice
You are so organized...very inspiring!!!! Just a thought...tomatoes taste so much better if you don't put them in the fridge...I saw that on The Food Network a while back and made the switch from fridge to counter....much better!
Fun video to watch. Makes you look so organized to be on top of everything you have.
Just curious why you want to empty all your food storage every month ? We have almost a years worth of food here and there have been 2 separate occasions that without it we would have been going to bed hungry. Life can come at you from all angles . Loss of job ( My husbands company sold and all employees were let go ) He also broke his shoulder one year and was out of work for almost 8 months. What happens if at the end of the month there is a natural disaster and there are no trucks running ? ( This seems to be happening more frequently ) An extended pantry is peace of mind here. We are not hording food , but rotating through it. Just something to think about.
Totally hear you! Those are all very valid points. I just prefer to operate on more of a monthly basis. Most of the time we have 2-4 weeks worth of food on hand since I bulk shop once a month. But every now and then I like to clear the pantry and use up the food we have on hand before spending money on more food. For me, food waste has always been something I needed to work on so this system (so far) has been working best for us. Thanks for watching!! XOXO
Let me urge you to plan for more than one month . In this day and age you never know what will happen . It could be weather disaster , job loss , illness , or economic crash etc. If something happened with our country if the grid say went down etc. the stores would be emptied in hours and no trucks would be coming in . We lived in the CO. mountains far from stores . We are retired . My husband was in the hospital and when home I couldn't leave him . We lived out of our pantry for eight months . It was a life saver . Many have children to think of too . If nothing happens then that is great and you have saved money since food just keeps going up in price . You won't loose a thing . If you don't can you might want to learn to avoid GMO foods and foods taste so much better when they don't come from metal can's . You can also store left overs in canning jar's that can last two or more weeks in the fridge . Garden or shop farmers markets , plant nurseries many times have fruit and veg. brought in from local farms to sell , helps you avoid GMO .
I really enjoyed your video . Thank you for putting out there for us . Blessing's , Linda
Pat Sanzone , You hit the nail on the head and do what I do . People need to wake up and be prepared no matter what may happen due to weather disasters, illness , grid going down , etc. . Using food saver's and oxygen absorbers , dehydrating foods and canning is a plus . I do my best to avoid GMO foods . Pat I loved your comment . Blessings, Linda
Yeah for the Kerrygold butter it’s yummy :) . Being Irish I don’t use anything else and thankfully they sell it where I live in the UK. I love your idea on eating everything or rather using up everything that’s a fantastic tip ! I’m so doing this x Oh and my top tip is cut the burger buns before you freeze them and pop them in the toaster . Instantly ready x
Your fridge is so clean! I need to clean mine out
Once u start you never go back cause once u get that 40 lbs u good till the next time they come buy u just need to order it again. A few weeks after u get the first order. Cause but the time you run out they r getting the next order in. It is wonderful.
Wow, what a difference. Hopefully it will last all month. I scored the Zaycon chicken deal for .69/lb. Got 40lbs for 31.00. Awesome deal. Can't wait til the other options are available for my area. Great video!
That's awesome! I need to work on doing that! It's just me and my hubby and I was just thinking how little food should be in our fridge! It is always full! I spend way too much at the grocery store. I did clean out the pantry so I guess next is the fridge and set a menu plan to use up is for the motivation!
Lemons and limes freeze very well, cut in half and freeze. Warm in microwave and voila, fresh juice. 😀
Lol. I am lazy. I wash and freeze them whole. A friend has a tree and I got at least 15 bags worth. I gave about 7 or 8 small bags away. Took the zest off of 12 for limoncello. Made lemonade. Saved the rinds to clean meat and dishes if I need to. So many uses in one fruit.
I will have to try that. Love fresh lemons for my lemon loaf.
I made a similar video on my channel but I LOVE that you did a before too! It inspires me to use those grocery items that have been sitting around for a couple months. I would love to see these videos after every pantry clean out.
Wow! Amazing! I can so I've always got a fridge full of this and that jars. Literally full of this and that jars. I wonder if I would have anxiety if my kitchen was so low on provisions. Thank you for showing this to us.
Not only is Zaycon meat a great deal...it’s great quality too. You won’t be disappointed!
u need to put nuts in the freezer so they don't get ransid and u can keep them for longer and u can freeze your cheese too
Loving the frozen sandwiches! Why didn’t I think of that?! We sometimes buy the frozen PB&J sandwiches, but my husband makes one every day for work. I will start making his ahead and popping a bunch in the freezer for the week. So much easier!
I don't feel right if I don't have a couple months of food on hand. That being said, I need to rotate some things.
Cindy Sams exactly that’s how I feel I always have a stick pile of food in my freezer and my pantry just in case something happens or comes up we can live off of the freezer and fridge
Wow! We never manage to get our refrigerator that near empty. I'm impressed!
I love the way you store your eggs! :)
I would be absolutely scared if my pantry fridge and freezer got that bare. We live pretty far from civilization, plus I garden and can. If bad weather or the highly unlikely event we would be stuck here I bet my family could live for a year on the items I put up. Probably not that long, but close. Ps....I had twins too. Children 3 and 4.
Nice freezer, have a great week nice organization
Well it's funny that this came up as a c on my list today as this is about 6 months old. Seeing that fridge so empty gives me anxiety but that means you are actually using the stuff that you buy so that's good
Onion give up oxidation .i would never put it in nearby fruits. You can store them in garage or food storage room.
You can freeze milk too.
Wow all looks great
All that canned corn could make a yummy corn casserole!
Omg u should see my fridge right now 😂
love this video and your grocery hauls are the premier protein shakes good? do you drink them in place of a meal? just curious cuz thought about trying them while they are on sale
I would like to see what you make out of the ground turkey. So far we have not found a recipe for ground turkey that we like. Both hubby and I are allergic to pork so we try our best to find recipes for other meats that we can eat. Any tips on using ground turkey or any recipe links for ground turkey would be MUCH appreciated.
put your nuts in the freezer... they won't go bad as quickly
Harnish1102 agree. And seeds👍
That's ok about the Christmas ham, now you have an Easter ham! If you are interested in pantry organization videos you may want to check out Do it on a dime channel lots of clever inexpensive ideas
OMG! Make biscuits or pancakes with older milk..lol I am new sub going through your videos..
Girl I’m stealing all of your ideas. Lol
audrey Ullery-Wilkins yay girl!!!!! 👍🏼
I miss you!! Where did you go?
Make your ham for Easter! I love ham at Easter!
Where did you buy the wire basket that you have your eggs in?
You could make the ham for Easter. 🐖🐣🐇
I can't help but to lmao.....YOUR GONNA FREAK OUT WHEN 80 lbs OF MEAT SHOWS UP. OHHHHH BOYYYYY GET READY.....THAT'S ALOT!!!!!
Angie Ruiz I’m all over it!!!
Great video do you only shop monthly
Instead of throwing the milk out, use it to make pancakes for the freezer. Slightly sour milk makes the best pancakes
Commented before you said you don't have pancakes, sorry 😂😂
Can you please do a video on how you make the grilled cheese hamburgers? I purchase the 1/4 lbs frozen hamburgers at Costco. Thank you ✌🏽💖🤗
Were did you get that egg basket from?
I'm going to make tattor tot casserole this week.
This came up as a recommended video but I see it's almost a year old, what made you change how you shop since you use to shop monthly and now you shop weekly? Do you stock up on less food now since you go more often?
When I was shopping monthly I feel like I was not being very good with food efficiency. I would have a lot of things that would go bad before we had a chance to use them up and it was just really hard to keep track of meals and practicing zero food waste. Shopping weekly has been much better for us. I can come up with 7 meals very quickly, shop sales (and our pantry) and just keep the food budget/meal plan operating smoothly :-)
I feel like you have that coffee up way to high lady!!!! 😜 lol
I ordered chicken from zaycon too! .99 cents a lb was a great deal! 👍🏼 what freezer do you have?
Fernanda Medina052809 so awesome!!! You know I’m not really sure regarding the freezer, it’s a Frigidaire but I’m not sure what size or any other details. It was given to us for free 😍
Why don't you freeze the lunch meat? It seems like alot to have out
sunshine c I’ve heard that lunch meat doesn’t freeze well (makes it slimy) maybe I’m wrong? Regardless we go through it pretty quickly so it never goes bad ☺️
Zaycon closed
How long does it take ur boys to finish a big can of formula? I have twins that are almost 1 and they go through 1 in 3 days it's crazy.
Right now we go through 1 a week. Are your twins eating solids? The solids have helped slow down the formula intake, ha!
The Former Mrs Jones
Yes ma'am they are. They are starting to slow down but the still have at least 3 formula bottles a day. We are starting the transition to whole milk too.
Yeah, about that Zaycon purchase :-( .......
I'm losing out on 5 cases of meat I had on order!
Great ideas!
Put all of your nuts in the freezer and they will last forever.
That is exactly what I was thinking as I was watching. Keeps them from going rancid.
If you keep your nuts in the freezer they will last much longer.
Where's the fish? 🤔🤔
WILKINS' OUTDOOR ADVENTURES boooooo!!! 👎🏻 I’ll never forgive matt for catching a catfish and then making me eat it! 😝
The Former Mrs Jones we are so doing a catch and cook in April. 😂😂😂
