Amazing Class 56 locomotive lift at Bo'ness. 4K

  • Colas and ex-BR Class 56105 being lifted at Bo'ness Scotland.
    The locos wheelsets had flats and required both bogies to be replaced prior to returning the loco mainline working.
    The locomotive lift and bogie replacement was carried out on 16th June 2022 with help from Boden Rail engineers.

    Great to see these older engines being serviced and kept in service rather than being scrapped. Hope the wheel fats can be repaired and those boogies used on another engine repair.

    With the springs hidden you forget that the 56s have Flexicoil suspension

It’s a great boost to your railway, it’s a credit to you all at the railway and I hope it’s leads to more mainline operators using Bo’ness in the future…..Kerrrr Chinnggggg

      The work was carried out by Boden rail fitters assisted by the SRPS diesel group.

    Do the 56 bogies have a central bolster with swing links, like the 47s or does the 56s secondary suspension provide the transverse movement?. Those coils look a similar design to the set up on a 86 or 87.

    Top drawer ! Can I ask - when doing this kind of job , i'm curious as to what needs to be disconnected from between the bogies and the loco. Is there some kind of electrical multi plug connection from the genny to the traction motors / brakes etc? thanks for this ,a great watch

      Need to remove bogie to loco center casting attachment, air braking supply, hand brake, traction motor cables etc.
