Tips from an owner of several Spartans and M41s. 1. Glue (Shoe Goo) closed cell foam to the underside of the canopy so when it comes loose in a crash it floats. 2. Remove the top rudder screw and replace it with a nylon version. If the rudder catches something big it will break that nylon screw and cause the rudder to fold up which is much better than ripping the back of the boat off. 3. Get some foam pipe insulation and cut two 8" piece and push them in the sidewalls of the boat above the batteries. If the boat does wreck and is flipped it will keep the electronics from being submerged in water.
I sliced pool noodles into halves and then hot glued them into the canopy. also tucked some pool noodle halves up under the edge above the batteries in the hull.
Just a few tips for nubes, tape your canopy down along the edges to help seal the hull use removable tape. Run the boat in a clockwise pattern to help cool the electronics the water pick up is on the right side of the rudder and will not work as well in left hand turns. Last but not least extra floatation in the rear of the hull really helps after a capsize.
I had one of the first gen boats. Lived on a lake and ran it often. Took it out on my pontoon boat with friends and ran it through the wake. Those were good times.
Mine stays bone dry. check the factory glued surfaces between the top and bottom pieces of the boat. sometimes the factory does NOT glue it so well. also put some marine grease in the slip tube to keep water from getting up the prop shaft.
The Traxxas Spartan is a nice boat. I've got a buddy who has the M41 as you said you have. Basically the same thing internally. I've only seen the Spartan on a shelf in my local hobby shop. The V hull in RC boats tend to porpoise a lot more than the catamaran versions. I personally own the Zelos Twin from ProBoat and one upgrade from my boat that I would recommend to anyone with a similar sized boat is to replace one of the screws holding the rudder to the strut is a nylon screw from Horizon Hobbies. Part # PRB285000. Take my word for it, if you like your boat, you need a nylon breakaway screw as it will save your hull and it excessive damage to your boat. I gave my buddy two of mine before he bought his own. Broke one after owning his boat for 2 weeks and the second one the same day he received his packages of the nylon screws. For most, it may seem like an unnecessary expense, but it can save you hundreds. Saved my buddy twice. Now you might be thinking that it broke because it is just nylon. You can believe that if you desire but if that nylon screw hadn't broke away from whatever it was he had hit, then he could have done a lot more damage than a screw that's about $1. A pack of 5 screws with accompanying nuts is $7.99. Seems like a steal if you consider the extent of damage that can happen without them. Also I would recommend a aluminum (at least) prop as the plastic ones will break pretty much every other run.
Got mine up to 62 MPH on 6s. I installed a water pump in the cooling system to assure cooling of the 550 2200KV suprass motor i put in it. I also highly recommend replacing them thin metal fins with longer adjustable ones. Hot racing makes some.
Thank you. I have an M-41. Looking at an Oxidine twin cat but that price is holding me back. I put aluminum trim tabs, dual pick up rudder and hot racing aluminum prop on my m41. It's a rocket ship. 67mph. Hard to keep it from dancing or flipping. Added some tire weights from Harbor freight. Seemed to help. Thank you! You rock!!! Mark. Provo Utah
I got all of my upgrades from rc boat bitz in Australia. Also grease the shaft after every run becuase if you don’t you will burn up the esc, trust me I learned the hard way.
How is the radio range with the boat? Mine with the stock radio had terrible range at first Then I made it so the antenna wire sticks out the top of the boats hatch, and that solved that issue. Heres how I have my spartan set up, I leave the trim abs alone and I just adjust the drive strut, I usually keep the drive strut trimmed down, with the batteries all the way forward on calm water. For choppy water I trim the drive strut up a tiny bit and move the batteries further back, like traxxas recommends. I use the lectron pro 50c 5200 mah, lipo’s and a set of power hobby lipo’s with a 75c, I can’t wait to see more videos of the boat.
That looks like a really fun boat. I don't really have the kind of water for that fast of a boat though. If I got a boat it would be a brushed one from horizon. You should do comparison video of the spartan and the m41. Awesome video Greg!
Alot of water actually comes from the oem cooling jacking . it leaks very bad .. I used the hot racing aluminum jacket in my m41 and no more leaks .....
I've got 2 spartan boats and put a lbt4082 leopard motor and off shore electronics esc 180amp on mine plus a double cooling rutter and all the aluminum upgrades on mine and it rips across the lake. It has awesome power
If U Goto Bunnings and get some of that sticky window seal stuff and stick around the edge under the hatch it will stop alot of water getting in but also get the upgraded water jacket
TSM and turn it down 🤔🤔 ? I've ran mine a bunch of times and never even looked at that TSM dial. Can't wait till tomorow to see what that does for performance.
How about marine tape? Do u tape that part like on the traxxas blast? I just got the spartan and new m41 haven’t tried either yet an I’m definitely pumped to go drive them asap
Cool Race Boat...🤘 Awesome SOUND...👍 Where IT s gone...?😱 Oh man nothings happend...You luckie Man...broke my kraton6s wishbone right now ...watching your Video with one eye while repairing...👍
Hey man, great vid! Pretty new to RC boating. Is this hull or the M41 better overall in all water conditions. Going to buy one or the other so what are the pros and cons of each and which is better overall?? Thanks!
Hi, Buddy, I have an R/C boat called the INCEPTION from Hobby King & on my maiden voyage the boat stopped & so I picked it up & motored home to see why the boat wouldn't work so while I started to set it up in my bedroom the ESC caught FIRE so I took them outside to put the fire out & on doing so I shorted out the motor so I went online to get a replacement but they don't have a replacement motor anywhere on the Web. So if you can help me in any way it would be much appreciated.??????
Hard to watch this video. Boat at the upper part or out of frame or out of frame often. I didn't see anything about self righting. How can there not be self-righting?
@@johnnycash7803 No. the design of the V hull and the weight and location of the batteries the boat always uprights itself. It is impossible for the Spartan to float upside down.
So many years later and Traxxas still makes boats that get full of water. Don't get me wrong. I'd still choose that brand because of parts availability but having to drain water after each battery pack shouldn't be such a ritual.
The boat slows suddenly which indicates get it back to shore. You can see the battery die in the beginning of the running part. It was all the way across the pond and I was able to drive it back to me.

The electronics are waterproof
@@maniac1628 I own a spartan and they are water resistant not proof.

That is an awesome boat....what on board camera do you use Sir?
Do a crawler build that is made for water, a sealed trans, axles, waterproof electronics, etc!
Do you think it is faster top speed with Traxxas stability control off??
What is with the fake background near the end of this video? It was moving around behind you It was pretty sweet

What is the diameter and length size of this boat motor ? How many amps is the stock esc ?
Awesome now that you have both which one would you prefer the spartan orm41 looking to buy one but not sure of the one
If I could only drive one. I’d probably go with the M41.
Not wanting to state the obvious, changing the stock nylon prop for a beryllium one with a different pitch is a good way to gain some speed
I changed out the 1800 kv motor for a 2200 kv. much much faster now.
Let's take a look at me bending the steering rudder in half, lol 1:36 Great review man! How does it compare to the 36" ProBoat?
Picnic benches are not boat friendly. 😂 Luckily I saw it happening before damaging the boat.
What happened to the MAXX build?

Put some high c- rated batteries in that bad boy. It'll really wake it up, and definitely go for the dual cooling and lose that rubber motor cooler.
🤔 A new look, at least no a arms to worry about 😎💯 nYce
Can you use it in the ocean?
I'm just thinking as soon as it would get here the lake will be frozen. Great job buddy!
Yea, that's life huh! lol
Do a review on the Traxxas Trx-4 Mercedes Benz g500 PLEASE!!!!
U will probably need to change the rubber water jacket on the motor the.leak
Does anyone know a good wireless camera to put on a boat?
If you roll that how do you get it back?
It always flips upright. The spartan won't float anyway but upright.
Fishing pole with a treble hook (I filed the sharp edges off) , kayak, cheap inflatable raft.

I heard run time is laughable on boats, that true?
Yeh depending on how big battrie packs are I have 2 stroke unleaded boats they run for over half hour on a tank sometimes more
I can use 1 battery too or no
I would assume not because it would make the boat unstable.
Lake Lilinonah?
Good eye!
lake lillinonah!!
Would you recommend this boat to be good in rougher waters up to 1 foot waves or bigger (nothing huge of course)
i have the boat and drove it in waves not recommended use it for more clam waters

Gotta be the Spartan all the way there the best boat On the market I don't like pro boat if U want a real RC boat buy the Spartan
I’m seconded
You need to find a much better spot to small of an area.
They should redo it to self right. Sonicwake beats this all day
The spartan won't float upside down. it is impossible to float anyway but upright. if it flips over it always rolls back upright.
@@1peanut absolutely not true. The Spartan does not self-right.
it self rights by its own design and weight distribution. it is impossible to float any other way due to its design.
😁😁👍👍👍
Sonicwake V2 is far superior
Cool but better boats can be had for alot less money
