You hit the nail on the head with the title of the track. Vibes well with the music. Nicely done!
The maiden slowly watches as her domain crumbles. Many have come through these countless years. She can feel the weariness approaching. She knows it is soon time for her to take her final test. The clocks have stopped ticking, the gears are turning to rust and the rust is turning to dust, and the dust is vanishing into the air. This cycle is over. She steps forward to her favorite spot. She lays down there and with her final act, this spot well remain. It will be the center for the next beginning. But how long until that starts? No one knows for the era of farewells has begun.
"Haaaah..." White-haired woman huffed, forcing her pained body to shift a little as she felt the dozen arrows in her back, permeating her flesh and vital organs.
"A-Aria..." The man said with a shaky voice, forcing himself up on his elbows. She was standing in front of him, shielding him from the rain his opponent commanded down on him. But... there was only so much her magic could withstand. No matter how strong she became with him, two hundred arrows couldn't be stopped so easily. And yet... she didn't flinch. She ran to him and protected him, even when she knew it wouldn't end well for herself.
"...this time I saved you, didn't I?" She asked, falling to her knees in front of him. Strength left her hands as she put them down, the barrier of wind magic abating in the next second. "N-Now we're even." She forced her lips to smile.
"No... NO! W-Why?!" He felt tears trickle down his cheeks as he rushed to her. Looking around frantically, he noticed their friend in the far distance. He quickly started inspecting her back, trying to find a way to pull out the projectiles, but... there was no way. He wasn't a healer, and Aria's life was diminishing too quickly for him to take her to one. Moreover...
He looked up, and saw his opponent supporting himself with the divine spear as he was nearly out of breath. He was hardly capable of fighting anymore, just like himself. 'Why?! We agreed to a duel!' Travis gritted his teeth as he felt fury seethe within him. He was ready to die, that's the mindset he went with into this fight. His opponent, Leon, was far too powerful to take on, even if he was nearly 60 this year. Support of Goddess of Light was far too powerful. And yet... why did he reach for such an underhanded tactic?! To use his followers when he was feeling strained... this wasn't short of breaking a promise made by one of the most powerful people in Forna.
'Is Apostle of Light truly this vile?!' He thought as he refocused on Aria. The woman took her hand and placed it on his cheek.
"Hey. It's alright." She said, forming a smile. "Don't... feel bad."
"Why... WHY? Why did you do that?!" He gritted his teeth with anger. "I... I don't want to lose you... Aria..."
"I don't want to leave, either..." She said, feeling blood starting to well up in her lungs. "But I didn't want to see you go more."
"W-What?! I... This isn't your fight, Aria! You shouldn't sacrifice yourself like tha-"
"You saved me in that hellish place more times than I can count... on the day we met. Remember?" She asked slowly, cutting him off. "Now I'm paying back my debt..."
"..." He didn't answer, unable to squeeze a word out. For a moment, it seemed that time itself has stopped, allowing the two of them to say their goodbyes.
"I... guess I lost my sanity for you... Travis. But this... the war you are a part of. It's an era of farewells... even when we don't like it."
"..."
"So... please promise me one thing, okay? Live. Don't let this be in vain." She felt strength leave her body as she run out of mana. This was as much as she could support herself. In a fit of coughs, she started vomiting blood onto Travis' back as they both hugged, but neither of them cared one bit.
"...I will avenge you."
She smiled.
"I love you." And then, she closed her eyes, never to open them again...
