I love watching these videos. I love hot dogs and I'm super excited at the idea of starting up my own hot dog cart. People tell me it'd be stressful and difficult and they seem to doubt that I could manage to do it successfully but while much of what they say may be true - there would be some stressful times etc - it doesn't exactly seem like rocket science. If I could find a few good locations, get myself set up and just be consistent, really throw myself into it, I think I'd be fine. It seems you just need a bit of courage, a bit of energy, a bit of consistency and determination to make it work no matter what. Like many things in life. I'm absolutely going to give it a go as soon as I'm able to afford to get myself set up.
You can do it! I had my own plumbing business for 23 years then built a hot dog cart and started out slow with my own homemade everything. If you do chili from a can etc. the customers will know and you will not grow. I finally set up on a college campus for the last ten years of my business and it was crazy good. Now in my early 60's I am retired covid kind of helped me with that decision. Good luck to you.
thanks so , so much Alex and Ben Iam one of the people who wanted to know about that also and my question has been answered you guys are the frickin best man your advice is so helpful to so many of us newbes that are going to get into this biz I have my cart built already just waiting for the new year to get everything done in terms of a DBA, inspections, insurance ,,etc,,etc .. but yeah thanks so much very very appreciated bless you guys. I had to watch this again ... Alex in his videos and several others inspired me to get started with my cart.. Can't wait for Ben to get off his azz and come spend the day with me lol ...love you guys!
Love to see all these Hot Dog places work. I llive in.South EastMissouri. Grew up in St. Louis. Never seen a Hot Dog place succeed. And I dont get? Always wanted to start a Hot Dog stand food truck.
@Margret Me, I'm from North Jersey and if you get a good cart, bring it out after one of the bad snowstorms that our region is famous for and dig yourself a spot while all the local eateries are still closed, you'll make out like a bandit, just like Alex! Just wear a fluorescent yellow jacket with reflective white stripes so that people can spot you faster and easier. Whether driving or walking, they'll have to take it VERY slow because of the black ice on the roads and sidewalks, so they'll have more time to see you and stop. Speaking of black ice, wear a pair of those rubber-strapped cleats that slip over your snowboots!!

Hi Ben I have a question?? If let’s say my daughters wanted to come on the weekend and help me Vend do they need a permit as well or as long as I have a permit it’s ok
Im a newcomer, but a true hustler, this is going to be my first business this yr.please anybody give me sum pointers.im just a regular American trying to get in the American dream.
Very Nice set up good thing for the snow as far as business went. and that's the big dog cart ? I'm trying to get one of these going in New Hampshire and I need four sinks on the dang thing to.
One separate pan for each meat? Do the flavors combine? How does he hold the at-temp remaining hot dogs if he wanted to boil up more? Just re-boil the remaining ones?
He's holding some in water, some in steam. Some flavors can combine and it's why someone doing red dogs doesn't put them in with regular dogs. I don't understand your last question.
@@BensCarts Thanks Ben. Just some beginner questions as far as heating/holding/serving that I haven't figured out yet. I'll ask again on VU once my start date approaches.
I have been trying buns and dogs just because... Bought a few small packs of dogs and a few different types of buns. Not sure how these buns will stand up because i haven't started vending yet but at home , the top split Hawaiian rolls have such a sweet richness against the dog. And SOFT... Flavor wise it makes you kind of think hmmm. What is this flavor combination???
Some vendors use a Hawaiian bun. They have more sugar in the recipe and are great used for exotic meat hot dogs and sausages. The only real drawback is that they don't hold up well to lots of wet condiments.
Hey Matt where did you get those BIG ASS serving gloves? I had a stroke a few years ago and to this day I struggle to put my hands in gloves, especially tight fitting gloves. those gloves look like they could do the trick for me! Thanks
On this day, life handed Alex cold weather (lemons). But then it handed him one eatery closed (ice water), then another (sugar), then another (4 shots of Cuervo Gold). Now he's made the best lemonade West of the OBX!!😆
I’ve been trying to get those Fontanini sausages and they don’t have them anywhere, I’ve even called Hormel, you get the distributor ... I so want them... Alex how did you get them 😂😂
@@stndrds79 Confusing. If they're not sold instantly aren't they boiled first, then put in the steamer perforated pan awaiting their fate? So they actually get both boiled & steamed anyways?
Alex is the man with the balls of steel in winter
LOL... he's now moved to FL.

I'm sorry Margret, I just saw this. Absolutely you can have your kids help. Yes Yes!
In my county they do need managers licenses also but not every county is like that. Honestly I doubt the bite would hurt that much either way
Ben, what is constituted as cold? looks nice to me...loll what kind of cart is he working off? and how many sinks?
Below 32 and windy. That's cold to me.
Were did he get his cold condiment rack
Amazon
You could make a drive through with PVC right next to the cart with a sign on top hanging down that says enter and exit so people don’t get confused
That’s awesome 😎

Same here
Who makes that stainless steel rack for the condiments on the cart?

What's the website link for those sausages and Hotdogs to order from?
You got to come to newark NJ and get my set up
I'd love to.

Beef boullion + Walmart= win
Where did you get the grill
Google: stainless steel suitcase grill
Dreamakers hotdog carts
I hope i can get a reply! I cant find Frand and Steinz anywhere on social media???
Hey Matt where did you get those BIG ASS serving gloves? I had a stroke a few years ago and to this day I struggle to put my hands in gloves, especially tight fitting gloves. those gloves look like they could do the trick for me! Thanks
Look up the mitten food gloves disposable.
Are you allowed to touch the uncooked sausage with the same glove you touch the Bread with?
One: you shouldn't have uncooked sausage on a cart
Two: Nope
Wherr did he get the big sausage?? Bob and Annie??
He answers that 4 times in the video.
@@BensCarts love you too :)
Oh cause u can't spell it I see lol
why did he move his grill? it was out to the side of his cart. regulation ?
That's the Big Dog® and the other cart he has is the Cash Cow®.
thanks! and usually I am more observant.
What I used snapped
I like long ones
Where do I see the latest videos you have out?

Does he use charcoal on his grill ? How he get his flames so powerful ?
That's grease dripping making flames rise.

It's a Hormel food product. See: go.hormelfoodservice.com/fontanini and you can order online via Webstaurantstore.com
I can't understand where he got the sausages.
Fontanini
I always stop at a decent hot dog stand. It is a sin not to.
Amen!
Hey Big Ben. So the dogs are already boiled. Then he grills them. More work for him but I guess it's worth it. Right?
He can serve straight from the water, but grilling makes customers love them even more. It's eye candy.
I prefer steamed
Or boiled
@@stndrds79 Confusing. If they're not sold instantly aren't they boiled first, then put in the steamer perforated pan awaiting their fate? So they actually get both boiled & steamed anyways?
Why open it and not be able to offer all thr condiments that u typically offer
Is fontanini part of horseless family????
he does not sell drinks?
What's the name of his grill?
It's here: hotdogcartstore.com/product/hot-dog-cart-portable-stainless-suitcase-lp-gas-char-grill/
Kirkland snaps
He still slinging? Have a FB or YT page??
No. He worked 2 carts and then sold and is on to other things.
Hey guys what’s going on there with remnants of Helene

Americana....
Gerald McRaney. Or his brother.
To much salt in the ball park for me gives me a headache 😫
Is this guy around still?
Do you still have a hot dog business?
Is that the big dog or cash cow?
Cash Cow with dbl steam.
Great vender, but it seems like he's gotta walk a half mile, just to create a dog... I wonder if other carts are more chef friendly..idk
It was his setup. He later changed it to make it so he didn't have to move. Worker's triangle
Snow and cold
